The other day I thought it's too bad there are'nt any more eldar logs here. And realised the best way to do something about it is start my own :D
I am kind of a slow painter and does my painting in periods. So this will probably be infrequently and irregularly updated. Luckily I have a backlog of painted models so whenever I doesn't get stuff painted I can update this with som already painted models :p

To start off a model I finished today, Necromunda special character Yrthrain Mardawn which will be counting as Eldrad in my forces.

Small and not very inspiring update. I am in the process of rebasing my entire army:

Going from this (rather boring)
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/gamlabaser.jpg

to this (less boring)
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/nyabaser.jpg

I have a team tournament coming up this weekend. As part of a team I felt a need to actually win a few games so got around painting my wraithguard. I'll share pictures as soon I finished the bases for them and the weather is nice enough for spray varnish (which might not be until may in this part of the world).

Jonke

So the aforementioned wraith guard. Hopefully noone will mind the bigger bases I've put them on. I think they look a lot better on these bases. Only thing left do to before tournament is finish one (1) guardian and if there is time make a new base for my avatar.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_0872.jpg

Although they are a bit static I think these are great models. Hopefully any redoing of them in plastic will keep close to the aesthetics of these.

I like the new bases! Although I must say I would personally prefer some more contrast between the model and the base. The unit wraithguard does look very nice though!

Thanks! I agree more contrast between the bases and models could be a good thing but I like them this way :)

Glad you like them! Will try to.

Went to a team tournament two weeks ago, I think my best game was a draw but it was great all the time and I hope my team mates don't think I dragged them down too much. Fun stuff was I got nominated for best painted which actually was surprising. Didn't win though.

Here's my army:

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_0874.jpg

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_0875.jpg

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_0878.jpg

The guardians did nothing in all five games (except standing on an objective a few times) should have taken another unit of jetbikes instead. The ranger otoh were great! And the wraithguard with eldrad of course. And war walkers with scatter lasers are just insane. I'd like to try a unit of war walkers with missile launchers just to get the range and ability to threaten armour 12-13.

Here's a better picture of the rangers.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/rangers.jpg
I took this when I finished them a year ago or so, when I varnished them they got this grey coating effect. Now I got around and varnished them again and luckily it went away. I've been told this does'nt always work but worth a try.

Very, very cool color scheme. I've never seen the Necromunda model before, thanks for showing us!

I actually like that the colours on the base and models is so similar. Looks like they dressed specifically for this battlefield. And the colours all work very well together, stunning xenos filth :D

Time to get back to this. I was abroad almost all december and then there were holidays and stuff. But now I'm back to painting.

Three warlocks finished that I started back in november.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_1920_zps48073b14.jpg

Three more to do than I have a full ten man warlock unit. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one each of the warlock sculpts provided by Axiom here on warseer, linky (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?325390-Painting-a-New-Eldar-Warlock-Sculpt). Those two together with all of GWs makes 10 without any duplicates. Six with witchblades and four with spears, which I think is a good mix.

If the FAQ had allowed overwatching with destructor I think a 10 man unit on foot with around 6 destructors would have been nice, now I'm not so sure. Especially since putting a farseer in a transport prevents him from casting anything.

Where are those Warlocks from cos they arent GW ones AFAIK?

Sauragnmon
30-01-2013, 17:13
Not entirely true, the Farseer can cast on the tank and the unit inside the tank still, but yeah, can't cast Out of the tank which kinda sucks, but that's the price of having no fire points.

The one on the left I bought from a member here on warseer, there is a link in my post to his thread. The other two are GW but discontinued, probably cause they're armed with laspistols. But they are easy available on ebay and not very expensive, not more than getting new ones from GW :D

Yeah, thats true. I might try running a farseer on foot and taking a unit of 3-5 warlocks with spears and destructor and send them off on their own in a falcon or wave serpent. Probably overkill versus most targets but overkill is kind of fun :D It would be nice if we had access to venoms.

I agree, it would be nice if we had something with a sunroof at least so our farseer could look out and waggle his fingers at something threateningly. Granted, nailing a Falcon with a Scatter Laser with Guide can be just evil if you're hunting vehicles with it. All those re-rolls just make it a little easier to pop things like rhinos. But then, that's the price we pay for the pretty beefy energy fields on our Wave Serpents... And then if you add holofields it just gets evil - already hard enough to penetrate the armor, but oh look, now you roll two damage dice and take the lowest every time. Not bad for survivability.

Well, considering you can use it only 3 times due to hullpoint-system, I'm not entirely sure it is worth the points.

Thanks alot! The rangers is the reason I play eldar and 40k, they dragged me over from fantasy.

Thank you! Actually my ex-girlfriend who suggested the colour combination, I stuck with it even if I didn't stick with her :)

I haven't touched holo-fields since 6th edition hit us, but I do miss them sometimes when my tanks go down on the first penetrating hit, otoh for the points of 3 holo-fields you can get another wave serpent.

Rather striking colour scheme you have there. And well done, you actually made that necromunda model look good.

I really love that classic farseer but I'm now on the lookout for a suitable replacement for his rather chubby hand which looks so out of place with the rest of the model.

Thanks. The farseers hand is a bit chubby, true. I can't think of a suitable replacement hand on the top of my head. The only pointing eldar hands I can think of are left hands. Maybe something from the heavy weapon or support weapon crew?

Here's my avatar of khaine, painted it a couple of years ago and finished a new base for him this week:

Slightly converted with a weapon swap, it's supposed to be a double axe but I have not got hold on a second sword from a wraithlord yet...

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Eldar/IMG_1932_zps4580c222.jpg

Of course, it was more a poke on the idea of a 'many-bladed' axe. How many axe blades can an axe have? And why? And how? Anyways, glad you like my take on it. And my wraithlord got a really nice sword in the deal :D

Looks like a cross between an axe and a khopesh to me. Works brilliantly.

And an axe can have as many blades as you want; just keep sticking more heads along the shaft. Bloody useless as a functional weapon, though. :p

So I have finally managed to get some more stuff painted.

Swooping hawks: Always liked the models and with the new codex they are playable. Still not as point efficient or good as warp spiders unfortunately.

Crimson hunter exarch: Really like this model, so many different angles where wings and fins and stuff just line up in beautiful ways. Not entirely sure if this is finished or need more work, have been thinking of doing som red panels and maybe highlight the purple som more. We'll see.

And finally a farseer: Acquired this one cheap in a garage sale at the local gaming club. Painted it because I needed a 'seer with singing spear and relaised that after clipping of the cable that originally ran from the pistol and disappearing into the farseers robe mysteriously it is a rather nice model.

Finished some rangers. Had a game last week and tried running a large unit of rangers, 8 of them. No good, they did nothing and then died. I will only run them as 5-man objective campers. I have three more unpainted, when I've finished them I have a total of 12 so can run 2 small units.

Actually I need to know how you did the Scorp as I worried about this scheme .& vehicles.

It's really quite simple. I do it all with normal brush since don't own an airbrush. Basecoat with a 50/50 mix bone/earth, wash with vallejo umber shade (devlan mud), pain everything except recesses and shadows with the 50/50 bone/earth. Edge highlight with bone and make lines all over with thinned down bone, almost like drybrushing but controlled.

indeed this army is master piece.

Thank you very much!

They're not perfectly straight, but almost. One of them is dropping compared to the other, I straightened it with hot and cold water before painting but it has gone back.

Postade en del på Ylva förut, men jag har aldrig varit annat än högst sporadiskt aktiv :-) IRL var det väl minst 6-7 månader sedan...

Hade vart kul att se din armé på riktigt nån gång.

Thanks for that recipe. I think the lines look really great so I'll have to try it!

Good luck! I look to forward to see the results in your plog :)

Very nice elder army mate, an inspiration too, I think I might have to steal some of your ideas, especially the coats on the rangers!

How do you get the variation in color? I'm working out a sort of damascus steel pattern for my own craftworld and I like how subtle you've gotten yours. Nice work!

Thank you and glad you like them. Feel free to copy anything and just ask if you want know how I've done something.

Damascus pattern sounds like a great idea! I explained my recipe in a previous post, nr 54, check it out and ask i there's any more questions.

Here's another wip on the scorpion. The brown is done and i have started on the white and black:

At the moment I am building wraithblades. There started a campaign on the local gaming club and in the first round I'm running a list with 5 wraith blades with axes. These are so nice models and the kit is great. Easy to build, almost no flash or mould lines. Initially I planned to fully magnetize them, to be able to use both as wraithblades and wraithguard. But during the building process decided against it. So now I'm just magnetizing the close combat weapon options and if I ever want wraithguard I can buy another unit.

I am attending at tournament this weekend. It is composition points and soft lists. So I made a fun list and decided this was a perfect reason to paint the wraithblades. So the Scorpion has been put on hold and the 'blades are now finished.

Here they are together with their big brother, to whom I've finished a ghost glaive.

They look great, but I can't believe you said the kit is easy to build! I just made some also, and found the kit came in way too many pieces, unnecessarily so IMO. Still, they are fantastic and you certainly did them justice...

Also in preparation for the tournament this weekend I painted two shuriken cannons, for now they are for a falcon and a guardian squad. But they are magnetized and can be used for pretty much everything in my collection.

Here's the falcon with the newly painted cannon. I'm trying a 'dakka' falcon, double shuriken cannons (and yes a scatter laser would be much better but it's composition points in this tournament and I'm trying to make a soft list).

And the guardians

Hmm, true that. But it really is a great kit and great models.

As always, beautiful work, man. Shuriken Cannons are now such a very interesting, versatile weapon with Bladestorm... I have to admit, that's just a delicious rule, and it makes Guardians so much more viable.

Haven't done much lately but starting to find myself att the painting table again. Painting in progress are som storm guardians but I'll show those when they're finished.

As a side project I've completed a farseer on jetbike conversion:

Finished the farseer on jetbike. Tried my hand on a freehand on the canopy. In hindsight I should have made it larger but I think it looks good as it is.

Thanks! The canopys are basecoated with the old orkhide shade and a thin layer scurvy green and highlighted with scurvy green mixed with increasing amounts of white.

I lime your farseer cloak sculpt work. I'm going to use it as a reference for my cold one mounted seer council. The cloaks and helmets are what the Eldar psykers are all about. You can't have one without the other. Again, nice work.

Thank you! I agree that the cloaks and helmets are really what identifies the seers and warlocks. When I saw the new plastic farseer I immediately thought it would be perfect for a seer on jetbike conversion (and since I already had 4 farseers on foot I really didn't need another one).

Noticed I mixed up the color names in my previous answer, I use scurvy green, not falcon turquoise.

So, have managed to get som painting done lately.

First 10 storm guardians with 2 flamers. Really like the models and concept of this unit. And I do think 10 of these with flamers in a wave serpent can work in a semi competitive environment.

And second 2 support weapons with shadow weavers. I have a third one awaiting paint but the comp system used in Sweden lately restricts shadow weavers to 2. So I've only painted two. The third one is coming up later (probably together with the third war walker I own and haven't painted). I like shadow weavers, it's a great unit and probably should be 10-20 points more per model. I think d-cannons are hilarious and will probably paint those soon. The concept of vibro cannons are cool, but now when ap3 can't explode vehichles I think they are definiately not worth it, not compared to shadow weavers. I wish vibro cannons had ignores cover.. I think it would be fitting and it would make them worth their points.

Enough rambling, on with the pictures!

Progress!

I have painted a wraithlord (the left one) and a spiritseer.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150126_183507_zpsa968dec6.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/josabl/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150126_183507_zpsa968dec6.jpg.html)

And finally got around doing the long planned reforging of the avatars weapon.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd32/josabl/Mobile%20Uploads/1422306446420396203717_zps2482e44a.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/josabl/media/Mobile%20Uploads/1422306446420396203717_zps2482e44a.jpg.html)

Initially the idea was to make a double axe with blades from the wraithlord kit. Then the wraithknight was released. I ordered a wraithknight sword from a bitz site with the idea to give one wraithlord a two handed sword but it was too large. So cutting it down a bit it makes for a great glaive looking weapon for the avatar. The blade looked too big to be used one handed so i lengthened the handle. The weapon is a bit over the top but I think it is fitting for the avatar.
