View Full Version : What color for my dark vengence marines?

Hmm, so I am not really a huge fan of Dark Angels (mostly color wise). I am a huge fan of Raven guard but not the color black would get boring to paint. I also like the Space Sharks, but grey is a major color of my eldar.

I am thinking of a Raven Guard/ vanilla count as (want more variety than black). A blood angel count as is also on the cards, as I have some khador to paint and won't want to paint large blocks of red.

The big question is what to do about the rules, go with a more open (vanilla ) v specialised list (BA) or use space sharks count as?

I was trawling through lexicanum and found the raptors. They are a drab green color, which I kind of like.

As I have decided to move away from gw colors for this project and moving towards a more realistic military color scheme. Could someone please provide comment/suggestions on the other manufacturers? I found P3 is a joy through an airbrush.

So how are the others?

Why not go for a Dark Angels successor chapter army. Like:
Disciples of Caliban (Darker green, with a grey/black trim)
The Consecrators (Black with Red trim and White Markings)
The Angels of Vengeance (Dark Grey with dark Metal trimmings)

This way it won't matter that some of your models have the cloaks and Dark angels hereldry and it also means your can Use the Vanilla Dex or dark angels dex.

In my opinion, the only reason to Field a Dark angels army with their dex would be: Because you like the chapter. For the Special Characters. Or for the full Terminator/ravenwing lists.
Or if you really want you can still do a counts as blood angels army.

The easiest option is to simply create your own chapter, give them cloaks in their background and go from there.

Yeah I am thinking about a DIY chapter. Count as raven guard/ space sharks probably. Some how got to justify them having dresses...

Simple, the chapter digs dresses, y'see 40k is a magical world where crazy s*it can happen. See Blood Angels teaming up with Necrons or Aun'va being 205 points. They're proof. So I think you can say to your foe "they like robes"

That is true... they better be asbestos or some fancy super future fabric that is both fire resistant and knows to get out of the way of jump packs... Then again a marine in a sealed suit can drown in ankle deep water, so yes anything can happen. DIY it is. Now on to color choice. I really dig the olive drab used on the raptors in the lexicanium.

As I said before I have decided to move away from GW paints for this project. Main reason is that I get half way through an army and they discontinue/change formulas of their line :( . The other reason is I would like to broaden my horizons. So apart from Vallejo (can't get in a B&M store here) and P3, what are people experiences with the other paint manufacturers? Eg Humbrol, Tamiya, reaper and W&N, etc? I am even open to the idea of using enamels! Probably should be moved to modeling and painting.

Please, please, please use "successor chapter" and not "counts-as", the latter is a terrible, terrible thing :'( That's the good thing about a successor chapter: they're close enough to their founding chapter to retain some of their colous but can be altered as you see fit. Just bung in some fluff that says that the leading warriors of your chapter's recruiting world wore Scottish tartan sashes or togas or curtains or something, so they retained that after their recruitment into the Astartes. It works for Deathwing very, very well...which is kinda fitting! Are you going to sand down all the Dark Angels heraldry? ;(

Simple, the chapter digs dresses

Does this mean he gets to paint them in the a flower pastel pattern like a grandma dress??? They better be REALLY tough marines if he does.

Take a look at my blog in my signature. I went with a Raptor-esque paint scheme. I made my own Successor Chapter called the Angels Dominion.
