Hi guys, currently working on a compilation for all the GW special characters not currently in any army book, where I intend to update their rules to 8th edition, complete with background and art. Below is a list of the ones I have found so far (the ones from the old Bretonnia book, Dogs of War, Kislev, Chaos Dwarfs and Cult of Ulric have been updated in other books I've worked on already), but seeing as I have probably missed a few, I was hoping some of you might now which ones. I am only interested in characters that have had both background and rules written for them, characters only mentioned in fluff are not applicable. Any GW publication like army books, Citadel Journals, White Dwarf and campaigns that have special characters in them are valid. Thanks in advance!

Note: I am not asking you to post links or PDF's for anything (but PM's are okay ;)), only the names and publications where I could find them.

Many of these have gotten rules in their respective 8th edition armybooks, but there are some difference in the background for some of them.

All of those are already accounted for. I'm going with the latest fluff GW has written on them. From the ones you mentioned, only Nagash and Dieter Helsnicht haven't gotten 8th ed updates yet.

He is in the 8th ed unofficial Bretonnia book, as I stated in the second sentence.

You're missing Gotrek and Felix from the Dwarf list.

Nope, they are already part of the unofficial Regiments of Renown update, as they are Dogs of War.

Looked him up, seems like he was only a special edition model with a little bit of fluff, but no rules for him per say. Well, thanks anyway!

Kaleb Daark, Herald of Malal. Was in a Citadel Journal in '86.

Found his rules, thanks Zark! Even though Malal might be gone, there's nothing saying that we can't have his followers :p

No problem. I found a few more for you:

Oddgit, Snagga, Dreg, Nazgob, UzGuz, Grotfang Skab - O&G characters from the Idol of Gork campaign pack
Manfred von Bock, Ulrich, Zorn, Konrad, Rutgar - Empire characters from the Idol of Gork campaign pack
Drong the Hard, Krudd Mad Mattock, Grung Grudge Bringer, Skag the Stealthy, Helga Longplaits - Dwarf characters from the Grudge of Drong campaign pack

There are also the Tears of Isha, Circle of Blood and Perilous Quest packs to look into too, not sure if those ever had minis made for them like some of the above.

Found the rules from Tears of Isha online, already had the Circle of Blood on my computer, will have to look into Perilous Quest.

Found the Idol of Gork campaign in German as well, thankfully I have a buddy in Austria who can help me translate, my German isn't the best when it comes to long passages of text :p

Yikes, so many characters! Book is already over 100 pages long, and I haven't even added in half these campaign characters and the wood elf ones yet!

Are there any characters from White Dwarf that I'm missing?

Khazrak's hound Redmaw is missing.

For Vampire Counts, Aborash is still alive (as alive as a Vampire can be). He'd be a pretty cool beatstick character as well.

Well, he isn't really a Special character per say. Giving him his own entry would be like giving Deathclaw his own page without having him connected to Karl Franz.

Were there ever rules for him though? I only found mentions of him in the fluff...

Oh sorry, didn't realise you wanted old characters with rules. Reading comprehension fail.

Mengil manhide and his flayers were a white dwarf release for dogs of war but you probably have them. There was Luthor Hurkon from the vampire coast scenario plus a mini made for him for vampire counts.(name may be wrong could be walach).

I'd say it's more like Creed and Kell in 40k. Could easily have something like a champion upgrade for hounds that lets hounds ambush, and if Khazrak is in the army, Redmaw can always use Khazrak's leadership instead of his own. Decent combat stats and you bring back a special character model that had rules in a characterful and useful way.

You have written nothing about whether you are interested in characters that only had rules for special scenarios or other games set in the warhammer setting, such characters will be underlined to make it easier for you to choose whether to use them or not, characters from the roleplaying games are not included. Additional characters that are not special characters (such as the Skeggi characters that could be played in a Warriors of Chaos army) will be in bold text.

A little late on the reply side here, sorry about that. I have updated the first post with the new characters I have included so far. Thank you so much for that list Leogun, really appreciate it! I will ransack my library for the ones you mentioned that I haven't gotten around to include yet tomorrow!
