I've seen those miniatures before. I want to say they are related to an out-of-print game called 'StarGrunt', but my search-fu hasn't turned up a definitive link yet.

Edit: They appear to be these guys (http://meninboxes.blogspot.com/2010/09/i-got-5-boxes-of-these-largish-sci-fi.html), and not actually linked to StarGrunt. Don't know if they are still being made, trying to track that down.

Apparently they have been sold under multiple names - I once got a box of them labelled as "Space Rangers" from my local game store.

They are still available from em4 miniatures, 2.55 for a set of five:

They were originally made by a company called Nexus and later by a company called Atlantic, distributed by another company called Italeri in both cases. Still can't figure out if they are still being produced, but you can order them from several places online, including here (http://www.netmerchants.co.uk/product.php/5843/xxx_century_warriors) and here (http://www.michtoy.com/item-ATL-NXS002-Space_Warriors.html).

2.55 = OUCH. I bought two boxes of these back in the early 90s for 9.99 for a box of 50!

Are these not the free figure you get when you buy a set of Vallejo paints?

To further convolute the situation, my box of Space Rangers has for contact information Hobbygames Ltd, no other companies mentioned.

Also it has on the back cover some background information about them, including mention that they have their base in the Himalayas and that they are organised into 10 companies, each 100 men strong. And their motto is "Death strikes on silent wings".

To further convolute the situation,

And even further back (I think)

They were made by Iron Crown Enterprises. I believe ICE was the original manufacturers because they came out with these, and a set of Battletech scale mechs and a set of star fighters. The star fighters were used with their Silent Death game (great game BTW). This was back in the late '80s early '90s
