View Full Version : Gornak's Freebootaz

'Oi'z youz lot dis is my thread right and you's gonna all like its otherwise me and me's ladz here are gonna come and krump yah good. Got it?'

'Oi fidget get ova here and do da talking like I'm board'

(In a high pitch grot voice) Welcome people to my thread detailing the growth and painting of my (currently) Ork foot Nobz army. Now quite why someone with the tactical skills of a blind squig chose a Ork Nobz army on foot to use as his first force when getting back in the game (last time I played 40k before starting this army was about 8 years ago) is unclear but I think it had something to do with wanting to use this army as a modelling one rather than a gaming one.

Fast forward a year and a bit and I have a almost completely unpainted 1500pt Nob army sat in front of me all fully converted (well when I say fully I mean every model is converted from its base model. This however just means that I have yet to get back to adding bits to it yet) and a rather varied w/l ratio gaming wise (I think in 6th its like 2 wins to 2 losses, but in my defense one of the losses was due to me deciding that running away and hiding wasn't very orky like and charging into certain death anyway. Also only having two troops choices (unless I roll well on the warlords traits) is a bit limiting but that's what you suffer for having a themed army).

Anyway given that:

a. you're probably bored of me tallking
b. You havent read any of this anyway

here's some pictures of what I have finished or PiP.

These are three of the seven members of Gornak's retinue which are all have scratch built bits to them (I think). Also note that due to them being freebootaz there's no display of single clan colours but rather a mish mash of everything on the model's

Firstly heres the first combi/skorcha Nob with bionik bits thanks to the squads doc.

Here you can see the bionic arm and power pack with wires running everywhere.

Next up is the units Doc with his needle and precision medical instrument.

The plate at the back might look a bit weird due to the fact that it used to support a banner but due to it having broken off bout a million times in the last month or so I'm giving up and leaving him with it off instead. Might look a tad strange but who cares hes a ork.

Now here's the docs precision medical instrument and canisters of gloop for his urty syringe. Probably best off not knowing why their bright blue.

Finally for now my PiP Waagh banner carrier converted form an AOBR Nob and a load of bits a wire. Oh and yes the actual banner is a very heavily weighted axe just in case the powerful doesn't finish the job initially.

You might notice that the skin tone on this Nob is different to the last two and that's because havign everythign the same doesn't look very much like a rabble to me so I'm gonna have different hues and tones in the force.

The large skull banner top complete with the head of the blood angle that kindly donated his arm to the skorcha Nob above.

Got to power that klaw somehow now. (Also got to finished off painting the metal on his backpack but hey).

And that people is your lot for now. Hope you like the few models that I've shown so far. I'm wondering if you'd like to see pictures of the models before I put paint to them or if you'd prefer just the PiP and finished stuff?

Hope you all enjoyed.

EDIT: Oh and apologies for the carpet background it gave the best photos though which is why I took them against it.

Thanks and cheers for subscribing. Let's hope I don't dissapoint.

Thanks not entirley practical but hey their orks so I doubt they care.

Update Time:

'Man you guys dat replied like must have took da bosses threat to literally I's got another update for ya to apologise for getting you's all worried like.'

Firstly I've finsihed up the Waagh Banner so here's some pictures of him. Sorry for them being a bit bright.

(Just to say I have painted the eyes red and not left them black like the picture looks. That's just an annoying shadow)

As you can hopefully see I've taken Gobsmakk'ds excellent advice and weathered up the cables a bit. Looks a lot more orky in my opinion. Below is the burna guy to hopefully further show this..

Next up to paint is this guy.

Not as heavily converted as the others but hey hes badass with his custom shotgun and huge ass buzz saw hand so hey. His badassery gets him his 5+ invun.

On top of this I'm also painting up my fantasy Orcs (can I post these here in this forum as well or is there a special area for non ork armies?) so painting might seem a bit slow but hey we'll get there.

good work james, i have also been getting back in the hobby after about the same amount of years as you and had a unpainted army for about the same time. but it feels good getting stuck into the painting side of a project, slow but steady and enjoy every part of it as its to me its one of the biggest enjoyments of the hobby (.....showing off what you have done)

11-12-2012, 15:48

Cheers and I'm glad to hear that your getting back into the hobby too and I agree, gaming is fun and all but the painting is also my favourite part and I'm got plenty of stuff to paint.

Update Time:

'I'm bac again ladz with a grot sized update on shotty macshotinton.'

Right just a small update for you on the shotgun Noand a skin recipe for you all.

As you can see he might be a little bit too red with his helmet and the vest but I think once the horns are done it'll break it up a little bit.

Here's a picture of his arm showing the skin with the recipe below.

Base: Caliban Green
Layer: Knarloc Green
Layer: Snot Green
Highlight: Goblin Green
Highlight: Gretchin Green

It's a bit brighter than the banner guy but if you added a final highlight of Nurgling Green that might bring it closer to it.

Right that's all for this small update but hope you enjoy it anyway. I also plan on starting a fantasy plog as I've started to paint and repaint some of my rather large amount of fantasy orcs.

Great orks! Every one an individual, hope to see more. Love the shotgun :-)

20-12-2012, 22:53

Cheers. That was the original plan. Every model to be a conversion and individual so I'm glad its working out that way.

Update Time:

'Another one for youz all'

Another small update for you. I got a bit distracted lately by my fantasy stuff so haven't done a lot of work on my nobz. Still I've nearly finished the shotgun guy (just got a few more details and then have to put him on a base) so here's some pictures.

Now due to the fact that I'll probably finish this guy and start on the next one before I have a chance to show you the model prior to painting here's a couple of shots to hopefully wet your appetite.

There we go that's all for now. On the desk to paint at the moment is:

1x Black Orc Standard
1x Orc Drummer
6x Orc Boyz
2x Ork Nobz (for my 40k army)

Not sure when I'll get these done what with Christmas coming up but will try and update again before then.

If not however

Looking great, love the amount of tinkering that's going on with your models (very Orky!) I am doing my own force too, using lots of yellow. Just wondered how you did your yellow? the wiring in particular really stands out!

I agree, these are wonderfully converted and painted.

Thanks and the yellow recipe is below along with several others. Glad your enjoying the conversion and painting.

Thanks I hope you continue to like them.

Update Time:

'Oi you'z lot I's gotz a new years update'

Well firstly I hope you've all had a good Christmas and a happy new years. Secondly I have a update. It's not huge I'm afraid but I've got the shotgun guy finished off completely and base coated and washed the new guy. Anyway here's some pictures for you all.

Shot gun guy finished and cabling has been given a wash to dull it down as Npzeminer suggested (not sure its that noticeable in the photo but it does look a lot better in real life).

Next the new guy all base coated and washed.

Finally a group photo of what's painted so far (all of 4 models).

That's all for now though I have had a request for my rust recipe from a poster so here it is on all my logs for anyone that's interested.

Base: Warplock Bronze
Patchy Layer: Boltgun Metal
Stipple: Blazing Orange
Stipple: Warplock Bronze
Lightly Stipple: Boltgun Metal

My O&G Standard Skin Recipe:

Finally this was my hobby related haul from Christmas so I might get a bit sidetracked by the new Hobbit models at some point.

Failing that this is what's on my desk to finish up at the moment.
1x Small squabbling unit filler containing two orcs and some loot.
1x Ork Nob

Update 11.1.14

Hey guys as I've recently picked my paintbrushes back up so thought as I was updating my fantasy thread (and starting a hobbit one) I'd also update this one. Not a huge update but it shows where I'm at with my Nob army.

Anyway lets just get on with pictures.

First is some shots of the last couple of completed Nobs for the army. One you've seen before but I've updated him so hes in line with the other finished Nobs.

Firstly the chain saw one. Kind of a gladiator theme with this one.

This one is just a angry guy with piston augmented legs and a huge claw.

Here's some group shots of the eight finished guys that I've got.

Finally a look at the next guy on the painting table.
