Well hello, thanks for visiting!

Recently I've begun winding down my Chaos Daemons and my Imperial Fists. I'm just about finished the Grey Knight allies so naturally my thoughts have turned to my project for 2013. Having an imperial and chaos log, it seemed sensible to complete the triumvirate and go Xenos!

Initially I settled on Orks. Nids and Eldar won't stand up to today's modern codexes, my mate collects necrons and has plans for Tau. That left me with the greenies and the Dark Eldar. Once I realised I haven't the patience for a horde (I managed to paint the warboss), I settled on the spiky ones.

Now I love the DE range, every model is a cracking sculpt. My only problem was that I'm not keen on the idea of lots of raiders (purely a transport issue). After dithering for a few months I finally decided I'd just collect the models I liked and go from there! So, I sat down, knocked up a few test models and now I'm about ready to show off where I'm at:

Firstly, the test scheme:

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/32060A7F-4875-4087-8DB6-EB00272C5ED8-1604-0000013CC3AD7847.jpg

Red all over :) I can't make black look good so I knew from the off my force would be either red or dark blue. I settled on red as its a colour I've rarely used until the new paints were released.

WIP warrior squad;
http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/EBABB2DB-DB0A-4CCF-A459-3AA03BA58136-1604-0000013CBE0E1295.jpg

I'm planning on making them into a 15 man squad so there's a few missing at the minute!

Finally, Duke Sliscus conversion;
http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/7EB78282-7160-4E81-8B3C-951A67F84F32-1604-0000013CE8F4BA3B.jpg

Simple kitbash- one of the raider "hangers on" with a left leg from a Wych and the cape from the IoB Mage. Mounted on Lelith Hesperax base and has a pair of swords from the warrior and Wych kits.

Hopefully this (rather long) first post will bear fruit in 2013, I'm looking forward to the journey, I hope you will too!

Feel free to comment, I aim to respond to everyone's comments and critiques so drop me a post!

Cheers

Memnon

You achieved a really nice red, room for (relative) improvement would be for me the transition from dark- to light red.
But I guess your are for the stark "tron" like edgehighlights.
Anyway, it looks cool. I really like the Duke, too, he has overall very dynamic pose, just "jumping into the action", of course dualwield swords, what else :D.
Good luck for your project '13!

Looking good so far. Really nice red.

Your Duke Sliscus Conversion is very similar to an Archon conversion I posted a few days ago. Great minds think alike!

The Red armor is looking good, I attempted on painting a red force myself, but ended up only with 500 points (a Battle Force box and a Haemonculi).
The blue eyes and tubes are nice contrasts with the red, will you do the same with hair on the models?

I'll be looking forward to see some more of these~ :)

Will keep an eye on this, considering how much I've enjoyed your other works. Nice Sliscus, by the way.

Thanks! I think the "tron" style is fast becoming the Dark Eldar "signature" style but as I hate painting black I had to go full red- it's a lot of line highlighting!

Indeed they do! Clearly the Mage cloak is a popular bit, I had no idea! Yours is looking great of course, hopefully I'll do mine justice!

Cheers man! It's much easier to paint red these days- I love Khorne red! I think any widens with hair will get blue hair as its a nice contrast colour, if I do too many colours it'll break the red up too much.

Thanks! Hopefully this'll be just as successful as the other plogs!

No painting updates yet (I've just polished off my other 2 forces!) but I've been tinkering with a Beastmaster conversion:

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/A24791B4-5D3D-4838-81CE-04ED396928B6-11576-0000090C7C46D57B.jpg

Any thoughts? I'm intending him to be accompanied by a pair of Razorwing flocks, but I REALLY don't like the stock models (four birds does not a flock make). Thus I've come up with this:

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/089365D9-28A1-4AE3-B402-824F988528E1-11576-0000090C9384AB5F.jpg

It's the scarab swarm bases from the Necrosphinx kit; much more swarmy!

Painting updates due later in the week, thanks for looking

Cheers! Yes indeed, I scoured every bits site and spent hours on eBay just for the 3!

Thanks mate! The red is as follows:

Black Spray undercoat
Spray Khorne Red
Wash with nuln oil
Edge highlight with evil sun scarlet
Glaze with Bloodletter

Cheers man, I reckon we need to start an IoB cloak appreciation society!

So guys, apologies for the hiatus! Poor weather, busy work and family life has meant I've done almost no hobby since my last post! I have however picked up Dark Vengeance and the respective codexes and I managed to finish my first squad of Kabalites!

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/C4827F7A-0C35-4D61-BC6C-17A19636BA8C-1775-0000022389C3CA88.jpg

I'm quite pleased with the overall look although I have to admit that all that edge highlighting drive me mad by Kabalite #10! Some of the armour needed redoing as I'd rushed it and spoilt the effect, hopefully they look ok now!

I think my next unit will be less red and I've got a box of kabalites sat on the desk but I suspect they'll get traded or sold- anyone want to swap for something else like wracks or scourges?

Anyway thanks for looking and major thanks to commenters, I really appreciate it and its your interest that keeps me motivated even when I'm sick of painting!

See you soon...

I really like your paint scheme for this army. I'd like to see what other ideas you come up with for Beast pack alternatives. The flock looks good.

I love the red! I must say your Duke has me wracked with envy. I may attempt to replicate it in the future. Well done, and stay motivated.

Phew, long break! Sorry for the lack of updates to those of you watching. I'll explain all in a minute!

I'll be honest I haven't thought about other models but I'm sure I'll put my mind to it in the near future... Thanks for the feedback!

Cheers! I do love the Duke but I'm finding it hard to keep him in my little list, but the model is one of my favourites so I'm sure he will make the cut!

So, just after my last post, my sister and nephew moved in with me. This has considerably impacted my hobby time as the little fella is awake during the day and I work at night so painting time is extremely limited! Having said that, every hour or so I've had free I've taken the chance to crack on with the wracks and Haemonculus and they're now finished!

And the "army" shot

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/null.jpg

There is some hope for progress though. The little un starts nursery next week so that's 2-3 hours a day I'll have free! Also, I woke up the other day to this:

http://i987.photobucket.com/albums/ae353/Memnon6/null-4.jpg

I think a love of Dark Angels must run in the family! He's taken quite an interest in my models (particularly my grey knight "robot") so I let him have at a spare model I had:

Not bad for 3 years old lol!

Anyway, up soon will be the beastmaster and a raider. I look forward to your responses, cheers gang!

I believe the beast masters whip is from the wrack champion. Can't remember the correct terminology!

As Solitaire said, its from the Wrack boxed set, you get quite a few leftover weapon options in that set!

Thanks, I'm not back per se, but the threadomancy certainly made me think about getting back on with my Dark Eldar!

Quite right sir!

Apologies for the distinct lack of updates, and to anyone who thought the bump might be progress! As some of you might know I've recently opened my own wargames store and website based in Middlesbrough so I've been crazily busy with that, which ironically meant my own hobby time has slipped! What little progress I am making can be seen over in my general 40k log (all links in my signature), including a plastic Incubi conversion I'm working on.

Hopefully now we are all settled down here, I'll be cracking on with this army, thanks for looking!
