Hi all !

Got a great christmas gift (early) from my brother. A FW armoured landraider.
As you all know by now, im not a spacemarine player.......so....i have to go pre heresy and IG !

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff61/finvovve/002-115.jpg

Yepp, it will have IG parts and crew, and get a nice desert camo.........

Wish me good luck, Mates !

Imperial Army!!

Yes, go full on Army with land speeders and rhinos and jetbikes... crewed all by run of the mill flashlight wielding, t-shirt wearimg, old fashioned bolter sponges!

It could be like the new pre-heresy hipster fad
"Oh yea, I do preheresy... but I do Imperial Army. Pre heresy Legions are just soooo mainstream now"

Thanks for the feedback, Mates :D

@ TDA: Yepp, i know, i know :p Ill bother you about how to assemble it :D

@ andyg2006: Hope i can do it justice, then :)

@ Jericho: Glad you like my projects, sorry for geting your hopes up :D

@ baphomael: Hey, did you know i found my old Army speeder and box of old Army grunts ? ;)

Hope to start construction this weekend so keep your fingers crossed.

How about one of the old 40K Rogue Trader desert camo schemes for it - like this:

08-12-2012, 08:44
@ Saardis: Well i hada look in my old books from the early jura period of 40k, but i didnt find any scheme that i liked :eyebrows: Might go for some WW II british camo on this one.

@ Hellbrandt Grimm: Yes it would..........but im guard/army at heart, so i guess thats where ill go :D

@ TDA: Thanks, Mate ! Playd around with it last night and found that those track will be a pain to assemble. Guess i have to do something radical about them....:D

@ Sheep: Hope i can pull it of then :)

08-12-2012, 13:26
genius idea! i've been wondering how i can squeeze in some of the space marine stuff, completely forgetting that ig had a lot of the same stuff back in the day.

SDKFZ
08-12-2012, 17:43
Just what i thought, Juxt :D
Your more then welcome to join me in the ranks of the Imperial Army, Mate :)

Started getting the tracks back in shape. They really are a pain to assemble.
Working on one side as a test, to see how i can make them fit a bit better. I saw that even the model in the FW instructionleaflet shows the
tracks fited really bad.

Colonel Jacka

SDKFZ
09-12-2012, 19:27
Oh yes, Jacka. Very different :D

Ill see if i can post some pics of my work later tonight.
Ive been out with the firebrigade the whole day in a blissard, so darn tired :(

Thanks for those frendly words, TDA :)

Here the update.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff61/finvovve/001-106.jpg

Still need to do some GS work (shudder, i hate GS work:() I ended up taking out a whole link of the lower track.

Main hull.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff61/finvovve/002-116.jpg

The whole tank with a old friend :D
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff61/finvovve/003-93.jpg

Still, not looking that bad. The track still dont fit perfectly but i think i can live with it as it is now.
Now i need to do the other side.

Colonel Jacka
10-12-2012, 06:00

:D No worries, Jacka. Im a IG sucker and you know it !
In the old RT days the Imperial Army also had dreads :D
So i searched my boxes and found this old model. Thought id paint it up as a companion for the raider.

Sad to dissapoint you, TDA :p It will still be guards/army.

Yepp, your right, Sheep. I have alot of the old RT marines. I just dont know what to do with them ?

Glad you still like to follow me eventhough its not chaos/heretics, Fizzy ;)

SDKFZ
12-12-2012, 15:32
Thanks, Fizzy :D

Andy, ive got two of those old "eggs on leggs" sentinels in th bits-box :D

Have had to much work IRL, so ive not had any time for any real progress on the gorgon or raider :(

baphomael
13-12-2012, 03:23
So the tracks on the proteus are bad then?

Found the Spartan tracks to be a pain. It's like the tracks were designed to fit something else... they lined up perfectly if there wasn't a gap between the road weels and the tracks. It felt as if the tracks were half an inch too big for the hull. Managed to bodge it. I still love the model, but I can't help but feel a touch ******** when ya drop that kinda cash on a model :/

Everything else was perfect... just those tracks.p

andyg2006
13-12-2012, 15:16
I think I've got a couple of those original Sentinels too and I also have a couple of the later ones which were metal and more substantial (I call them 'Squashed Frog-'pattern, as they are flat on the top and have a searchlight on either side of the 'face').

I now feel the urge to find some old images of Imperial Robots (Conqueror, etc) and to try to make some for my Blood Angel Dreadnought army (which doesn't even exist yet, as I hadn't considered making one until about a minute ago - lol).
Your plogs, vision and skills are always inspiring me in a good way to "Make More Stuff!", even if it's only via an indirect reference :)

Keep up the great work, SDKFZ, but only when you have time (no pressure).

SDKFZ
13-12-2012, 20:40
@ Baphomael: Yepp, they are a sad bunch, those tracks. I ended up taking out a link on each side.
The track could then be bent right back to fit.......on one side. :shifty:
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff61/finvovve/003-94.jpg

So now i need to do some more GS work, oh dear.........
Luckily this at the bottom and partialy hidden under the sponson.

Heres some topshots to show how the raider looks now.

Do like the look of this tank sofar. Hope i can make it look as good as i wold like to.

@ andyg2006: I sold of my "squashed-frog" sentinels, sadly.
Here are my robots, they are from my squat army. The left one is a old RT one the right one is homemade.

baphomael

Yea, with the Spartan tracks it wasn't even a miscast issue, or warping, it was just a design flaw.

Such a shame for what is, otherwise, a lovely bit of kit.

SDKFZ
17-12-2012, 15:19
Sad to say, no i haven decided on the colorscheme, yet.
I too think that its a design flaw, with the tracks. Some one has a raider with some other set of wheels :eyebrows:

Havnt got anything don on the raider lately. IRL keeps getting in my way

Gap! :eyebrows: like the Grand Canyon type gap! Mate that's bad. When I compare that with the Craussus which went together like a dream. Some FW kits are really good, other kits very bad? And well you get gaps. :( Happy green stuffing hope you have lots of it!

@ Jericho: Yep, weathering would work. Just a shame i dont do alot to my vehicles :D
The MKIIb is better, i have one of those too and it fits alot better...................darn, need to finish that one aswell :p

@ Colonel Jacka: Thanks for the wishes, Mate. Ill need them for sure, still no good with GS :(

@ MyNameDidntFit:Guess not :p A shame as the models look so good.
Hope to get some more work done on the raider next week.

@ Minigiant: It wont have my usual colorscheme........but still desert :D Ill give it a more guardy look with more equipment and stuff
added to the hull. Pintle heavystubber with shield also a must, ask Colonel Jacka :D

Think thatll be it. Might change, but think this will work for me.

baphomael
12-01-2013, 19:28
Those gaps are enormous! Have you sent a pic of them through to FW? It makes me wonder whether the sides are a bit warped, maybe?

It seems to be a problem on all FW heresy era tracks, it seems. My spartans tracks didnt fit and ive heard the same said from different proteus tracks too. Its like the tracks were all sculpted a touch too long for the hull itself, and the only way they fit is to either trim a link off and green stuff, or add spacers where ther tracks and hull meet (which, while allowing the tracks to link up properly, means they sit a little proud from the road wheels that are meant to drive them).

SDKFZ
12-01-2013, 19:39
@ Saardis: Nope, have not. Im just fed up with asking for replacements for crappy kit-parts
The sides were all straight and nice. The back part of the hull however was about 2mm to small.........on each side :eyebrows:
My bad for not bulking the sides out before sticking the tank together.

@ baphomael: How very true. Do these FW-guys build their own models ? :p

Have to see if i can hide them........lets hope so. If not ill have to have some jerrycans or rucksacks hanging there :D

I fixed the tracks on my spartan with plasticard strips, it was a pain in the ass, but it helped alot with the "realism" of the tank.

I have the same issue with Spartan tracks, if remove one track then have "short leg" gaps, I rather FW give me a plastic one can match the size . I think the same issue will apear on all preheresy tanks.

I think a replacement barrel for the heavy stubber like tinners has done:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/redram/GW/DKoK/Panzer/Bison%20Wallbrecher/IMGP2538.jpg would work really well on this tank, obviously with only one barrel. It can be found here under 2cm FlaK 38 L/50 AA Guns, Armoured vehicles (http://www.rbmodel.com/main.php?action=products&cat=c_bm&sub=35B)

I dont regret mine in the least. Just takes a little work. The tracks link up about half a centremetre too big from the hull... meaning you can either put spacers in place or cut a link or two out. Otherwise its great.

I heard bad things about my mates storm eagle... maybe it was a duff kit but he's been struggling with it.
