Lately I have been a) listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU9nk9GPzPQ :D, b) painting a few Infinity miniatures and c) building terrain to go with them.
Edit: Also, some Malifaux from page 13 on (Hey, this IS the random plog section :))

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/IMG_4280_zpsif8zwqsu.jpg

This is the miniature that started this all. Got it from a friend who bought the Yu Jing-Starterset. As the arm holding the shotgun was missing, he kindly replaced it with one from a Celestial Guard (he didn't need both minis apparently).

She'll be my lieutenant, therefore I tried to add a few japanese kanji to her scabbard later on:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/IMG_4281_zps1gm7lpkb.jpg

Pictures are a bit 'meh'. I need a new camera :shifty:
Edit: I have a new camera. I will try to replace the old pics over time

Next thing I did was buy a box of Haramaki. The sculpts are awesome, they're a joy to paint.
Here's the first one I finished:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1655.jpg

Again, pictures don't really do the minis justice.
I'm gonna upload the rest over the next few days (they're already mostly finished).

That's really really nice colour and model :)

And the next haramaki:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/P1010627.jpg

And a bit of new terrain:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1696_zps19cf0e7a.jpg

I already had a few of the pueblo-style buildings (made originally for Legends of the Old West) and wanted to continue to use them.
So I decided to build the scenery of a backwater planet - basically so that I can also use it in LotOW, Warhammer Fantasy and 40k without too much trouble.
I will make a few small bits that can be added to make it look more sci-fi, as well as a few things exclusively for that setting

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1695.jpg

I think this one's the most boring pose of the whole set - and it's still looking a lot more dynamic and elegant than all of my GW miniatures...:shifty:

And more terrain, this time not only a pueblo-thingy, but one with added sci-fi-bits (that are seperate parts and can therefore be used elsewhere (or not at all)):

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1679_zps4213bde1.jpg

And a simple large building and a watchtower:

Your terrain looks nice and I like your Domaru with the arm of the celestial guard. That said, from a WYSIWYG perspective she's not an obvious lieutenant for your force.

Sandmann
09-02-2013, 09:37
@Duke Donald: Thanks! I know the Dumaru isn't exactly WYSIWYG. I wanted to indicate her weaponry with the shotgun shells on her base, but only later realised that the lieutenant option for the dumarus is actually armed with a chain rifle  But I don't think that's going to be a problem. Quite a lot of the Infinity minis aren't modelled with what they're actually armed (two of the Haramaki are only modelled with CCWs, although the have contenders or combi-rifles in their profile).

And speaking of haramaki, here's the fourth:

@juicytomatoes: Thanks!

Had my first two small games of Infinity using the Quickstarter rules, my new minis and a lot of the new terrain :)!

Got some terrain finished (or very nearly finished):

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1708_zps3af2a34d.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1794_zpsa4a9c4b9.jpg

Since the pic, the antenna and the building it belongs to have been washed in places to make it more defined and weathered.

Sandmann
14-02-2013, 05:43
Got another Dumaru on eBay. Converted her slightly and the painted her (went quite fast - as I don't have myriads of figs to paint for this game, it makes painting much more relaxed - and therefore fun, which means I paint more often).

I hadn't realised that the Dumaru could be a lieutenant in the Japanese sectorial list. You're making some really good progress. The minis and the terrain look good, I like in particular the wall with all the posters.

How did your first games go? I'm at the same stage but moved straight to rules from the rulebook as I found the quickstarter confusing.

Sandmann
16-02-2013, 08:48
@Duke Donald: Very quick actually. We didn't use most of the special rules, just trying to get to grips with the basic rules. Had to look up a few things in the main rulebook though, e.g. the quickstarter rules don't cover the situation if several model have line of fire to a model receiving an order.
Both games lasted about half an our or so I think. One victory for Yu Jing, one for PanOceania. But as we switched armies, two losses for me :p Was fun nonetheless.

And actually, at the moment, the dumarus are the only models egilible for lieutanant ;)

Went to my LGS yesterday to pick up my order i had placed with them (Shinobu Kitsune), only to find out it hadn't arrived yet. So there goes my planned weekend project.
Instead, I started putting some paint on this one:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1823_zps31b289a2.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF1824_zps504ce56e.jpg

Liked the mini when I bought it, not so sure now.
Gamewise he'll proxy for Myamoto Musashi or something like that.

C&C appreciated!

Really nice work. I've been tempted by Infinity for over a year now. I think I'll give in tomorrow. ;)

I was planning to get Nomads and paint them orange, so it's good to see that the color works.

Sandmann
17-02-2013, 18:26
@Caiphas Cain: Thanks. You won't regret starting Infinity, it's a cool game. I hope you let us see your Nomads when they're done!

Got almost no painting done this weekend. But I have made some small things for my growing collection of terrain:

I'm impressed by the pace at which you're adding stuff to your thread. I like the Myamoto Musashi stand in; it's a nice mini. Your new terrain also looks good.

Sandmann
18-02-2013, 17:18
Thanks!

But as my order still hasn't arrived :shifty:, the next few days will probably be without an upgrade. But on the coming weekend I'll be at the Tactica (a german TableTop fair) an I highly suspect that I won't be leaving that without a few more things to paint...

Anyways, pictures (of dubious quality)!

Came back from the Tactica with only one blister (and four old WDs - for 2€), because everythin else I wanted was sold out. So I ordered it instead (hopefully it will be combined with my still missing order...).

And that one blister was a ninja with sniper rifle. Pics are a bit crap, sorry for that. Her armor turned out a bit more darker and muted than the others, but thats ok, she's meant to be camo'ed anyways :p

So, my orders were combined and sent of by my LGS, but haven't arrived yet
Therefore no new pics of minis. Instead I built some small terrainpieces.
Two 40k-themed objectives markers and a barrel:

My order finally arrived and I'm looking forward to painting on the weekend.

And because it would be a lousy update without pictures :D (even if it's a lousy picture):

the terrain continues to be superb :)

looooooooove the expression on the face of your latest painted model: 'I've got a big gun and a huge sword that I'm going to cut your head off with tra la la la, no it won't fit into the scabbard but I got you thinking about it, yes? Tra la la!"

:p

15-03-2013, 18:22
Thanks :D

Managed to finish her (well, except for the base):

Went with the Ninja-Hacker. Not 100% happy with her (the Devlan Mud dried very uneven and on larger, flat areas, the washed grey doesn't look as good as in small, heavily textured ones), but it's enough.

Sandmann
28-03-2013, 20:27
So, as promised some pictures of our game:

The table setup:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1880_zpsd198bfda.jpg

My Gang: A Dumaru (my lieutenant), a Kempei, three Haramaki, a Ninja Hacker and a Tokusetsu(not pictured)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1882_zps7e2b509f.jpg

The opponents: Three Zanshis, a Celestial Guard, a Shang Ji Invincible, a Haramaki with Missile Launcher and a Hsien
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1884_zps8184a841.jpg

A Haramakis advances down the right flank. He actually killed two Zanshis before dying to a misslie to the face:p
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1892_zpsd20d0e08.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1898_zps0268f420.jpg

The chinese advancing down the center:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1895_zps2ae4a890.jpg

The situation towards the middle of the game. The haramaki on the top left was really annoying, as he could see literally everywhere and I had no good long-range weapons to take him down...
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1909_zps2eba9d8e.jpg

Suddenly a Ninja appears! But sadly, she failed at hacking the Hsien two or three times, barely managed to shoot down a zanshi and was then cut down by the Hsien.
(Though my plan was actually to hack the Shang Ji, wich would have been easier - but he already died to two of my haramakis)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinityzocken%20240313/DSCF1911_zpsffeb1c15.jpg

In the end, my Haramakis managed to immobilise and finally kill the Hsien, putting the Chinese into Loss of Lieutenant and retreat, and my opponent conceded the game at that point.

We used the full rules for the first time, so the game took a bit longer due to us having to look up quite a lot of stuff. But it was still tons of fun :D.
Random thoughts: Next time I'll be a bit more agressive, especially with my lieutenant. I have the Kempei to back her up, so i should take some risks. In this game she barely did anything because I was to afraid of losing my leader. The haramakis were awesome, and I'm already thinking about adding one with a missile launcher to my collection. The Kempei didn't do anything, but then she was just an insurance. The Tokusetsu shoot a Zanshi (I think...he killed/wounded someone, to my surprise, not sure anymore whom exactly) and had no opportunity to heal a model - not sure about him...

Hmm, not sure what's funny exactly, but maybe I shouldn't post after taking medicine :D But thanks anyway!

We played three or four short games (100 pts. a side) and I lost all but the last one. Most of my units are close combat orientated or at least work best in very short ranges, which in Infinity is kinda hard to get into. Learned a lot though - e.g. that most models come with a pistol and so can still shoot, even if their main weapon is out of range (not that it does much, but at least you can throw a dice when shot at).

Very nice painting. I am intrigued by infinity, they do have some nice models, and skirmish games are a lot easier to get into.

17-05-2013, 12:07
These models are really cool! And your painting has really progressed too, even in such a short time. I'd be proud to have these guys in my own soon-to-start Infinity army :)

A tip for your scenery: For the towers/buildings made from card tubes, cover them with some cheap filler or textured paint. It will let you make a more interesting concrete texture and cover the card tube lines.

I look forward to seeing more!

Sandmann
17-05-2013, 12:37
@Pilgrimski: Thanks! The tip with the filler/textured paint is good, if I build something from cardboard tubes again I will try out how it looks!

And an update: Finished my second Haqqislam mini today.

Ah, good, then I'll keep borrowing that camera :)
And the finished Naffatun (modelwise she's supposed to be wielding a light flamethrower, I'm going to proxy her as a heavy flamethrower, that way I already have a nice 150pts army):

That is a very nice shade of green! Have you painted her eyes yet?

Did you use true metal on your guns? I considered it but I thought just washed and highlighted layers of grey looks better.

Sandmann
30-06-2013, 08:13
No, I didn't paint any eyes on the haqqs up to now. I tried painting eyes with two of my Yu Jing (The Kempei and Shinobu Kitsune) and I'm not completely happy with them - and it took ages until they were at a stage were I was at least satisfied enough to leave them be. Maybe if future me is a better painter, he'll try it once again, but for now I don't want to mess them up.

And yes, the guns are true metal (Boltgun Metal washed with Badab Black, fot that not-at-all-shiny look). I was on the fence about painting them like this or grey, but then the "muscles" of the power armored guys ended up grey, so I picked metal to differentiate them.

Nice Nasmat!

Don't give up on the eyes - just use the smallest brush you can, start by painting the whites and then just try painting a vertical black line where you want the pupil to be. I usually have to redo one or both eyes and often a little bit of cleaning up afterwards as well.

Sandmann
03-07-2013, 07:34
Yeah, that's how I did the eyes on my YuJing and my woodelves (the other link in my sig). One eye always looked ok, but both together somehow felt off very often, which annoyed me.

Maybe I'll give it another try later on, seeing as I got new brushes and the "eyes" on the nasmat turned out ok with those.

Thanks guys :)!
Maybe I'm a bit to critical with my own work - but on the other hand, that's part of what motivates me to keep painting a miniature until I'm at least partly satisfied.

I'll be painting and playing Infinity this evening, so by the end of the weekend there'll be new pics!

Sandmann
07-07-2013, 16:54
So, didn't take as many pictures as I'd like. But on the other hand, we played like seven or eight games and got two new Infinity players who each ordered a starter set on the spot :p

We tried playing some ITS scenarios and they were quite fun. I have to build something that I can use as mission objective though - we used the air wagons, and they're just too big.

Satan
07-07-2013, 22:49
What do you reckon would be a good objective size? Thinking of getting the spartan scenics set (and it will hopefully fill out most part of a table along with the escenorama crates) and I was just thinking of adding objectives and some interior details to it...

Sandmann
08-07-2013, 08:24
About the size of a miniature I would think. I'll build some consoles or the like and see how that plays. Setting up should be easier at the very least, as you can build terrain, decide on a scenario (or roll it up) and place objectives. With the air wagons, we had to build the table around the objectives, as they wouldn't fit otherwise.

Absolutely love your objective markers! I had one of those 'I wish I thought of it before I glued it in my rhino' moments.

the ghulam doc is very well-painted! It is a bit disturbing coz she looks like she is saying 'I'm a big fan of yours' in a rather coy manner but she is carrying a gun in her other hand... but that is of course no fault of yours. Great job!

Sandmann
21-07-2013, 17:47
Thanks! (The "gun" the doc is holding is actually supposed to be a kind of injector I think - maybe that makes her less disturbing?)

Haven't got anything new, as I was on holiday the last week. But while I was away, new stuff arrived, and I've got some ideas for terrain too - so hopefully some stuff viewable here soon:)!

Sandmann
26-07-2013, 10:30
So. Weather is almost unbearably hot, so I havn't had much motivation to paint. But I finished an new piece of terrain:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/DSCF2123_zps1d5a691b.jpg

I always wanted to try to make a field out of a doormat since I saw that in a GW years ago. Looks good I think and is easy as pie to do.

On the miniature front, I managed to assemble my three new accruals (a lasiq, a al'hawa and an asawira) but only slapped a basecoat on them and blocked in a few colours in on the Djanbazan/Husam.
I can't seem to get on with him though :(. Something just doesn't sit right with me about him, don't know what. Maybe I'll paint something else first and come back to him later...

It's a shame you went for bare metal on those. I think they'd've looked better kept in white with just the screens painted in bright green. Infinity doesn't really favour the industrial look.

R.

Sandmann
30-07-2013, 05:35
Maybe you're right. But I think in white they wouldn't mesh very well with the rest of my terrain.
And the concept behind it is very much a backwater planet - so the industrial, rusted look makes more sense than a 'clean' sci-fi look (and they can easily pull double duty in 40k).

But as I'll probably need more in the future, I could make one a Med-Station - there a (slightly weathered) white would make sense. I think I'll give it a try ;)

Satan
30-07-2013, 08:59
Are those consoles from the rhino kit? Smart use of those!

Sandmann
01-08-2013, 19:14
Yes, they are. I had a few sprues of the vehicle interiors lying around, don't know why. I don't play Space Marines :D

I sidelined the Djan and started to paint my Hassasin Lasiq instead, so here's a WIP (shoddy pics, sadly):

Got a small and short game in and used the opportunity to test a few of my newly painted, yet still untrained units - the Djanbazan and the Hassasin Lasiq.

Start of the Game. Knowing that a troop with Combat Jump was waiting to jump in, I set up my Haqqislams to cover their deployment zone and each other.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0383_zps88a5335b.jpg
Having won the Willpower-Dice-Off, Haqqislam had forced the Military Orders to set up first in the worse half of the gaming area,
willfully losing the first turn.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0384_zps0e37c4d0.jpg
The Lasiq waiting to walk or climb out of her cover:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0386_zps5214634e.jpg
And in her first active turn, claimed her first kill:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0387_zps29a44838.jpg
The Djanbazan walked into a supression fire corridor and gunned down the Order Seargent responsible.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0388_zpsd7a2ee7a.jpg
And does the same thing afterwards: lay down Suppresion Fire to hinder movement on that flank.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0389_zps1097b05b.jpg
The Knight of the Holy Sepulchre had advanced to midfield, yet stayed in cover for fear of the Lasiq.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0390_zps6fc2c32e.jpg
To put pressure on Haqqislam, he instead ordered the Crusader Brethren down.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0392_zps0a9e5d8f.jpg
Who promptly landed behind a Ghulam Light Infantryman who had advanced to take a Order Sargeant under fire.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0393_zps2bbbc72f.jpg
But bevor he can charge into close combat, he is unexpectedly gunned down by the ghulams shotgun.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20130908/IMG_0394_zps14956e2b.jpg

We just played three turns, until one of us was in retreat. I used my al'Hawwa-Sniper for the first time - she took down two Wildcats, including his lieutenant.
The rest of my guys and gals was however very unspectacular. My ghulam Lt. died without doing anything, the Odalisque nerly croaked before she managed to down the hellcat that had landed behind her.
And the rest just stood around doing nothing except getting shot at :shifty:
In the end the al'Hawwas kills swung the game in my favour and the nomads drew back. Was quite fun, I had really never played against them before and look forward to do i

Hey man I really like your painting method I think your buildings might benefit from a good paint job using some of the. Army painter cans are good for it.

Do you only do Ju Ying? I'm going to start a Haqqislam force next week I'll post some pictures up and link.

Thanks Sin Eater. Yeah, the buildings are kinda flat, but they're quick and easy to paint, and easy to add details to. Which means I can easily add more to them later to make them pop (like the posters and grafitti).

Actually I've painted quite a lot Haqqislam, just flip back a page ;)

@juicytomatoes: Thanks! Cover is very important in Infinity, more so I feel than in 40k.

Bought a box of Hassasin Muyibs the other day, here's the first one:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/IMG_0425_zpsd15bb7db.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/IMG_0426_zps1b09d953.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/IMG_0427_zpsdf5806fe.jpg

Fluffwise, the Muyibs are less about sneaking and backstabbing, and more about killing the enemies of Haqqislam with big explosions, mines and other nasty, not very subtle stuff.

Nice. I don't know if your painting have improved during the thread or if it's due to better pictures, but you have some great stuff coming out in these later posts.

The skin of the ghulam doctor looks really smooth and silky.

I couldn't help noticing the propaganda posters on your terrain. Do you still have the files for them or remember where they are from?

Thanks guys :)

We played two games this weekeend (Nomads vs. Military Orders and JSA vs. Haqqislam), and I actually remembered to take some pics this time :D

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0479_zps1f6c7d6e.jpg
The table setup. In the first game, the Military orders deployed on the upper edge, in the second the JSA took that side (and put a deadly ninja-sniper in the tower whose base you can see in the upper left corner of the picture)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0485_zpse210ea05.jpg
The Knight of the Holy Sepulchre advances towards the center of the board.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0493_zps07ad0994.jpg
The Crusader Brethren combat jumps in, only to be shot down by two Nomad Wildcats.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0496_zps4eea366e.jpg
The Knight, after climbing a ladder onto the large building on his left flank and taking a wound while doing so, storms forward and guns down two Wildcats, one of them the enemy Lieutenant.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0498_zps18ab817b.jpg
The Dumaru and the Haramaki deploy behind a wall on the left flank.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0499_zps5627c9b2.jpg
The SpecOps, who is proxying for a second Kempeitei, deploys on the right flank, facing the kum biker (who in her turn rushed forward and nearly killed her - but she survived the chain rifle shot and her reaction took the biker out)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%20131025/IMG_0501_zps262e591e.jpg
The Haqqislams had mostly deployed on their right flank - a mistake, as the Haramakis and the Dumaru could advance more than half the board without getting into Line of Sight of most of Haqqislams heavy hitters.

Deployment and Board Setup

The terrain on which we would do battle (without the objective placed):

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0622_zps07927cfa.jpg

Aleph won the Willpower Face to Face and decided to take the initiative. I had deployment and chose the zone on the right of the picture. Aleph deployed first, holding the Asura in reserve. One of the Netrods scattered off the board and the Naga Hacker started as a camo marker next to the left objective(seen from my side).

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0628_zpsd7b2fa49.jpg

I held my LT in reserve and deployed my Haramaki linkteam on my left flank:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0625_zps5214f2e9.jpg

The Husong, Keisotsu and Kempei were in the center and the Keisotsu Hacker on the right.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0627_zps90b42357.jpg

The Aleph player then deployed his Asura in the centre and I put "Neko" Oyama into the small courtyard in the middle of my lines.

Aleph First Turn

The Naga activates the (from my perspective) left objective, gets it on the first try and with the second half of the order moves back in the direction of his own lines, taking cover behind a low wall.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0633_zps769086a6.jpg

The Asura then moves out towards the central objective, taking fire from the Keisotsu and the Kempei, losing a wound. She (now prone) crawls towards the objective, activates it, gets the payload (probably some data, but represented by little yellow boxes this game) and retreats back as far as she can, covering the advance towards the Aleph position.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0636_zps2390dc46.jpg

JSA First Turn

The Hacker sprints towards the right objective, opens it on the second try and moves back, taking cover in the shooting range.
Then the Husong advances and opens fire on the Asura (who tries to dodge), managing to wound her fatally. She falls down and drops the objective payload.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0638_zps6d66c74b.jpg

With the two (I think) orders I had left, the Haramaki Link-Team moves up to the oil tank and shoots the Dakini Paramedic who was covering that firelane.

Aleph Second Turn

In Loss of Lieutenant, the Aleph player decides to seize the objective again rather than to choose a new LT. A Dakini grabs it and scuttles back.

JSA Second Turn

"Neko" Oyama runs forward to try and kill the objective carriers.
He manages to take down first the single Dakini on the stairs of the little building on his right, and then another Dakini (leaving the other one with the objective, who luckily made his armor roll) and a Netrod before going down.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0640_zps8287bd89.jpg

The Haramaki Team then moves across the board, through the building in the centre (careful to stay out of the zone of control of the Naga hacker) and around the corner into the sight of the remaining Aleph fighters. Two carefully aimed Contender shots later, the last Dakini is a smoking wreck and the objective lies on the ground...

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0641_zps347d293a.jpg

Aleph Third Turn

Now in retreat as well as Loss of Lieutenant, the Naga (with the impetous order) tries to pass the objective to the Deva and then grab the other one. He is wounded by an ARO shot from the Haramakis, but Dogged keeps him going, however he is shot again while racing back towards the objective and finally succumbs.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/kreativerbimbo/diverses/Infinity%202014/IMG_0642_zps5692ab8f.jpg

Conclusion

A close (2 to 1) victory for the JSA! Very thrilling and close game. I thought I would lose for sure after two objectives were in enemy hands after the first turn, but managed to turn it around!

Thanks JT :o

And while they are certainly quite detailed, I have way more fun painting them than, for example, my Imperial Guard. They are challenging, but if you spend some time on them, they look gorgeous, even if the paintjob's not perfect. And it certainly beats painting hundreds of more or less the exact same miniature over and over :D

My, my the odalisque is looking really fine! You did really well on the face, especially the eyes. i have to agree with you about your view on painting. I am enjoying myself immensely with it despite it being more detailed than gw's models. And it definitely more fun painting them individually rather than squads or armies. I now look at each model as having far more value than before, which makes me happier with each purchase.

I have managed to get three games of infinity i and I must say i am loving it! I have a question, if you don't mind me asking. at which point of the active model's movement is LOF of the ARO model to the active model determined? Is it at the end of the first short order or at any point in the path that the active model takes?

Sandmann
17-03-2014, 06:59
I don't mind at all :)

It's during any point of the order. So if you are in total cover (ie, out of sight) and activate the mini, do something as your first skill and stay in total cover and then move out with your second skill, the opponents who can draw a LoF get an ARO (unopposed actually, as you've already declared your two skills of the order). Also important: you can decide when in an enemys movement (that you can see) you want to ARO-shoot - preferably when he's out of cover ;)

juicytomatoes
18-03-2014, 01:03
Thanks for that. So now i have a further question: multiple models can declare ARO to an active model in their LOF. in practical terms, how do people play this? Do you move the active model several times across the same path to allow your opponent check LOF from different models on the board? Also do you often have to move terrain pieces out of the way to see if your models have LOF? If so, is there a better way to get around it?

Sandmann
18-03-2014, 09:00
We usually describe what path we want our model to take with his move, and check for LoF. When declaring the move, we mostly state what our intention is with it, ie "I want to move towards that corner and peek out, but without being seen by that other guy". If it is feasible to do so, then that's exactly what happens.
Mostly we talk about such stuff before or during performing the order, and it works out fine. If terrain gets in the way of checking LoF, we just approximate using a tape measure as LoF and see if it "connects".

Nice update, number 6 looks good.

What's your method for painting white?
It looks like a khaki base (with a black wash?) then pure white highlights?

Sandmann
05-04-2014, 10:57
Hey Steam_Giant! The white is a Bleached Bone base, layered with a 50:50 mix Bleached Bone&White, leaving only the recesses in pure Bleached Bone. Then the edges are highlighted with pure white.

05-04-2014, 15:38
Nice work on the Dakinis!

I read your batrep. Very entertaining! The terrain looks a little sparse on your table though. I had the impression that Infinity uses a lot more terrain. I'm new to the game though, so maybe I'm getting it wrong.

Sandmann
06-04-2014, 11:18
We're still experimenting to find the exact amount of terrain that feels right. Yes, Infinity needs a lot of terrain, but otoh, you don't want to overdo it, because then cheap Chainrifle- and Flamethrower-wielding warbands get way too good if they can get into range without beeing seen at all. It needs to be balanced so that both these unit types and sniper and HMGs are viable choices. ATM, my terrain collection is still growing, and we play with what's there mostly - and most of the time, it seems to work. The Aleph force is lacking heavy ranged weapons and thus suffers in that regard, which can be seen in the batrep. They have neither the range, nor some dedicated CQC-units like the Myrmidons. But that is going to change :)

I've got to say, up to now it's the best tabletop wargame I've played. While it takes a while getting used to it, especially coming from 40k and WHFB, the ARO-system keeps you on your toes and involved in the game, even when it's not your turn - which was one of my bugbears with 40k: When our Ork player began his movement phase, I could basically leave the room, make some tea and read a chapter of a book or something. The smaller scale (army wise) also makes painting much more fun and less of a chore (for me at least), as I can lavish more attention on each single model, because they have a (potentially) far greater impact on the game than random grunt #45. All in all, a fun, tactical and challenging game with beautiful miniatures :)
All very subjective of course :D

Thanks Steam_Giant! The Garuda is supposed to be touching down from Airborne Deployment and starting to run I think. If I had to build another one (I hope not, that one already was a pain in the ass), I'd model him with both feet touching the ground.

Yesterday we played two 200 point games, heavily lost the first against the Combined Army and watched the close-fought second one between Aleph and the same CA. While I watched I painted a Hafza:

They do reasonably well. Their player feels that he lacks some long range weapons to deal with enemy snipers and HMGs.
In scenario 101 of Paradiso that was certainly true, and was one reason that cost him the game (he lost 6 to 1 on objective points).

A friend gave me his McMurrogh to paint, giving me the opportunity to test out two things that were new to me:
Airbrushing and painting a tartan pattern. McMurroghs armor is the first thing on a mini ever that I airbrushed - I bought one only recently and have been using it to mess around with terrain mostly.

Got two of the new Ghulams with Support weapons finished over the weekend. Fantastic mins, they were a joy to paint!

Painted up a 1/43 scale toy car to use as scatter terrain (now that I have a garage building :)). Worked out good, although it may be looking to be a little on the small size (the minis bases make them quite a bit higher).

Can I be cheeky Sandmann and ask how you painted pink lenses and disc on her gauntlet, they look great (well the whole mini does).

I really like your muted choice of colour on your minis, they really do seem like they could step out of the screen.

Sandmann
08-05-2015, 17:56
No problem Lost Egg :). The pink lenses and so on are basecoated Vallejo Game Colour Gory Red and then highlighted with successive layers with more white added to the red. The last accent, on the upmost parts of the lense is painted with pure white. I then mix some of the red with Glaze Medium and paint the whole of the lense and the surrounding parts (which should be painted beforehand). A second glaze with some white in it can be added on higher parts of the lense and on parts nearer to it. The hardest part really is getting the consistency of the glaze right - not quite as thin as a wash, or it'll run away where you don't want it to.

And in other news, I've repainted the visor on the Farzan because I wasn't happy with it:

Inspiring work, I'll keep an eye on this while painting my ice storm minis. I think the car actually blends in pretty well. If you can find one the right size and shape, you could try putting it on a base to make it look like the other miniatures. Sometimes vehicles on bases look less 'toy like'.

Haven't got anything Infinity-related painted (nearly two boxes of Malifaux though - if anyone's interested, I'll showcase these), but I reworked some old terrain pieces that I made years ago for my Tomb Kings.
Mostly repainted to match current bases and tables, added flock and vegetation. On the backside of the hill I carved in a "step" instead of the incline to make it more playable, and the broken obelisk was rebased.
