Looks fantastic so far.

Wow, that's stunning. There's a good section for projects, maybe message a mod and get this moved there?

Then make subtle differences, call it a Lightningeagle Dropship and sell it.

Looks rather good so far, would like to see the finished product. I guess a laser cutter makes it a lot easier?

it makes it more accurate than printing plans, sticking them to card and cutting out by hand and much quicker to make more than one or make adjustments however the time taken to adjust plans and get them spot on makes the first one pretty slow. it took me half a day to put it togeather but been working on the plans for 2-3days before that and still going on them

Excellent stuff! If I sent you a pattern could you make me something? Terrain, buildings perhaps?

very nice!

So it's a combination of equipment you're using to create the pieces?

Yes possibly. the program that I use needs specific files that have vectors and so on, this is so it can tell the laser cutter how to cut it out ( what to cut, how much power, speed, which direction, basically to follow the lines) so if you send me a image such as a .jpg or so on it probably wonít have this in it, this means it would cut all the black out at the same speed and power and leave all the white, but it will do this very inefficiently because it doesnít know what order to do it in so it starts at the top and does a pass left cutting all the black then right doing the same until it reaches the bottom of the image. If it was a simple design I could trace over it simply enough or run it through a tracing program. Well I hope that makes sense the best thing to do would be to send me what you want and Iíll tell you yes or no. PM me for me email address if your interested

I use a laser cutter and some software on my pc, if you look at the images of the cut pieces laid flat in the machine, I basically have a computer drawing of that. The images are drawn in the program (Corel draw) and then the cutter will cut out exactly what is drawn at the same size. Once I have each piece of a section I just assemble them together by hand pretty much the same as an air fix model etc.

Very impressive stuff, once I've seen the whole model I could well be interested in purchasing one in flat pack form :)

I was kidding. Have you seen the mark ups that people charge for laser cut MDF? If a building with very little details costs £20+ then I can't even begin to imagine how much a full sized Thunderhawk would cost. Anything more than £150-200 and you're as well saving up to buy the real thing.

Two words, "BAD A$$!!"
and some more, you should figure a way to cash in on that skill, not necessarily the Thawk, but something cool!
You could always get assembled pieces cast in resin instead of selling the wood parts too. Like bases.

What material are you making it out of?

metalmonk

thank you, im using mount board it a thick card 1.5mm, gives a better finsish than plati card which tend to end up with round egdes and corners

I had figured on you selling the designs, rather than the model itself. I was close anyway ;)

I don't know why you don't make more of these items for sale. You're clearly generating massive interest at such a low cost, and if you do this just because you're bored and are comfortable with the materiel cost, could be doing a huge service to the Astartes gamers out there and make a tidy sum doing it! You could avoid the GW legal hammer by doing what others suggested here, call it a LightningEagle, change a few things in the configuration and do it up!! :D :D

I want one but my bid will be destroyed by the others and I'll have to drop out big time. Again, great work man, easily one of the best DIYs I've seen replicating a model. Just spectacular.:eek:
