View Full Version : Freeze, creep - it's Judge Dredd miniatures!

15-05-2013, 02:25
With my hardback rulebook finally making its way this month (I really hope), I thought I should get cracking on some Judge Dredd minis. Made a good start last night, I think!
Psi Judge Anderson is complete; I'm particularly happy with the way her hair turned out but the body suit could have worked better. Oh well, at least I've got the Judge colour scheme pretty well sorted.
The renegade robot just needs highlights on the blue panels and the base painted. Maybe some paint scraping or a serial number somewhere. Pretty fast painting though.
The orangutan sniper - well, at least he's started.
More Judges, robots and simians to come!

Sweet really nice, keep it coming

OK, you're the boss!
Finished the Demolition Droid and the Orangutan today:
I'm happy with how they both turned out, especially the colours on the Orangutan, but I think I need to work on highlighting large, flat surfaces like the plates on the robot. I never was that good at painting Space Marines.
Oh yeah, and here's the group shot of the three figures I've painted this "weekend" (as in my two consecutive days off).

Sweet. love the Orangutan. whats next for the painting table? really should paint up my judge's

In the immediate future, I've got a junk robot in progress; long term I want to get the rest of the ape and robot gang boxes painted and a couple more Judges (I've got the box set plus Dredd, Anderson, DeMarco and Giant).

Another day off, another three minis done - Judge DeMarco, Judge Giant and Old Stoney Face himself.
Giant's skin tone and DeMarco's hair took way longer than they should have. Dredd pretty much went exactly as planned, though.

Well damn, I've kind of ignored this plog a bit haven't I? But, when it rains it pours!

Chimp Gangster - Tried out doing some mirror shades on this guy.

Servo Droid - Possibly inspired by a certain protocol droid. Fluent in over six million forms of mutilation.

Street Judges - All done as a batch.

Robot Dog - his name is CL1FF0RD.

And finally, a group shot of all my Justice Department figures so far - over half way done! Until Hershey arrives...

Until next time... which hopefully won't be so long!

After much delay, I have finally received my Dredd rulebook! Totally worth the wait, though; this book is beautiful and packed with great content.
Anyway, this (along with the fistfuls of minis that came with the book) has spurred me into another painting binge, which so far has produced these two completed renegade robots!

With those two done, I only need to paint another robodog, a servo droid and the combat droid to complete the robot gang! Probably to be followed by the rest of my apes, plus there are some Necromunda Eschers that are looking to make the move from Hive Primus to Mega-City One.

We really ought to get a "like" function on the forum, somehow. I love these. They really capture the cartoon flavour of both the game and the miniatures line.

Thanks! I think the renegade robot box is one of their best, there's some really nice characterful sculpts. Like that servo droid; it's like they came up with the friendliest, least threatening robot possible and then gave him a gun and a chainsaw arm. I don't think it's any accident that I'm closer to getting the robots completely painted than any of my other gangs - that and I have a silly amount of Judges.

Just a few WIP shots today.
Another Chimp:
A gorilla:
Servo droid, before and after quickshade:
And a Necromunda Escher juve:

That's all for now!

Behold, the march of progress!

Chimp, skintone and various shading and highlighting:
And Chimp pretty much complete apart from basing (blurry photo alert):

Gorilla (Mr Jimmy Russel), with skintone:
And Jimmy with the start of his snazzy armoured Vault jumpsuit:

While the servo droid got a reapplication of his basecoat following quickshading:

That's all for today, I'll be back with more tomorrow!

I took some decent pics of the Chimp that I finished up last night.

I couldn't help including a little cross-comic reference. :)

Work continues apace on the Gorilla and Droid, more pics soon.

Nice reference on the button.

I really like that ape.

Woohoo! Little Chimpy Bloodybat is famous!
Well, he's featured in Mongoose's community showcase on their blog:
So I guess I should make sure that the rest of the JD minis are up to that standard, huh? I'm on holiday for the rest of the year now, and I'm taking all my paints and Dredd figures with me to my parents', so expect a lot more updates over the next week or two.

22-12-2013, 06:27
More work on Jimmy and the Servo Droid:
Jimmy's vault suit is coming up nicely, and the droid is pretty much done. I kind of phoned it in with the droid a bit, but it's easily my least favourite of the Renegade Robots and I was having trouble really getting into it.

Looking good! I've been thinking of getting into this game, especially since I saw the starter box in FLGS yesterday, I'm so tempted.
The watchmen button on the chimp is an excellent touch, overall I'm really liking your apes.
Have you played it anything?

I haven't played it yet, I was waiting (about a year in the end) until I got the physical rulebook so I could teach people to play. But I have read the rulebook pretty much cover-to-cover now and it looks like a really good game (not to mention a gorgeous book), so I will try to get a campaign going once I get back from my holiday.
I'm even tempted to get that starter box myself, considering that I don't have over half of the Judges in that set, or any of the punks and juves. The exclusive models are quite nice, too.
Oh, and thanks for the compliments!

Servo droid is all done, including base.

Not my best work by a long shot, but at least it's done.

I feel a lot better about this guy than I do about the droid:

"Just walk away..."
I'm intending to get more of em4's Future Skirmish minis and use them for a Cursed Earth Desperadoes warband, with a few token mutants from Mongoose. The JD mutants are mostly pretty cool, but I prefer the look of the em4 figures for "wastelander" types. I might also grab some of their dirt-cheap sci-fi plastics to speed-paint up, so I can build a horde of street punks and Citi-Def soldiers for Block Wars.

A few quick WIPs from this weekend.
Chief Judge Hershey:

Riot Judge:

Judge Death:

Hershey and the Riot Judge have had any necessary drybrushing, and I think I've got Death's colour scheme figured out (if nothing else I'm happy with the dark blue of his body suit).

I've been plugging away at various projects without achieving very much, but I got around to finishing off this Savage from the em4 Future Skirmish line (I call him Mr Hat).

Both Savages will join other em4 minis and a few Mongoose JD mutants to form a Cursed Earth Desperadoes gang. If I ever do any Fallout gaming, they'll make nice raiders as well.

I like your work on the em4 guys. They look good.
