Hello all,

I was wondering if I have been missing something but does the new shield of the merwyrm from the High Elf book alow a character to have a parry save even when mounted?

I think it does, due to it not being a normal shield + hand weapon parry save, its a special item that gives a parry save?

I thought it was a magical shield?

It's an improved parry save, so it doesn't apply against things that wouldn't allow parry saves (ex: ranged attacks). Similarly, if you don't qualify for a parry save due to being ex: mounted, then you wouldn't get the improved parry save either.
(Unless an exception is explicitly given, like the shield does for magic weapons.)

I believe it also doesn't work if you take a magic weapon. So as nice as a cheap 4++ is, you are stuck on foot and using a standard hand weapon.

It works, it's stated in the item description.

Thanks, missed that.

It works like a normal shield with an improved parry save. The only exception being that you can use magical weapons.
