Welcome to the teaser post for FIREBASE, the online magazine by the players and for the players of the Warhammer 40,000 game.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/AdamsMiniatures/userpics/fbtitle.jpg

Both FIREBASE and its fantasy counterpart SLAYER will be making Warseer their permanent home.

You may wonder why we're going to so much trouble to produce a webmag for 40K. Well, the answer is simple really; we wanted to! The plan is, over the next few issues, to build up a fantastic collection of fan-made material including:

• Battle reports
• Miniature Showcases
• Stories
• Rules and Scenarios
• Army Tactica
• And loads more, including many of the specialist games like Necromunda and Space Hulk.

The quarterly magazine will wet the appetites of many players as the magazine will try to cover as many different armies as possible every issue, but will also try to focus on the flavour of the month (although not necessarily what is being released next). This way, the magazine will have plenty of relevant content that players will love, as well as plenty of articles on general tactics, game mechanics, army clinics and terrain workshops, plus a whole bevy of other stuff too numerous to mention just here.

The aim is to produce a magazine that players from across the spectrum can enjoy; hardcore gamers will enjoy tactica articles on various armies and their styles of play along with detailed battle reports, whilst a modeling hobbyist will love the step-by-step conversion articles, terrain building workshops and miniature showcases of some of the best work players and model makers from the internet can offer.

Articles will be aimed at the more mature gamer, but fear not juves! There will also be a good smattering of beginner articles, and of course there is nothing stopping them from reading the other great articles.

FIREBASE will be free to download and read on Adobe Acrobat as a PDF file. As the magazine will be made available online quarterly its going to be a weighty tome, So there's plenty of room for submissions; the idea is that this will be a magazine BY the gamers, FOR the gamers, so please get in touch.

Email your ideas to: adammbsmith@hotmail.co.uk.

Issue 1 is shaping into something amazing and truly monstrous, but we still need more articles to feed the beast!

The team of staff so far are brilliant and we even have Aerion The Faithful on board as our cover artist.

EDIT - Anyone studying Journalism at college, university or NCTJ level will benefit from this as everything will be run like a regular magazine. Here's a good way to get some work experience for your CV ;)

Every time I read this, I start to work again on my Shooty Ork (Read: Blood Axe) Tacita, then I get busy with something else.

I'll go work on that now. It's dead here, since nobody's busting their computers ATM.

Sounds great!
Go for it, I sure will check it out. A good hobbyist mag is what the hobby needs at the moment as WD just isn't up to it anymore.

And for gamers by gamers always produces the best content.

Plus great graphics.

Now to answer all your questions.

Sounds good
Is this the new Oracle?

No. However, The Oracle has gone the way of the Doh-Doh.

BTW I'm interested in contributing to this (may as well use that English degree) what are you looking for in the way of submissions?

To finish off Issue 1, we need more general articles about the hobby.
I suggest you send me an email listing all the armies you have (for future planning) as well as what ideas you have. Of course, I can give you things to work on if need be.

about what time is this going to be released?

September and issue 2 planned for December.

As I said in the other tread, I am looking forward to this. Sadly I don't have the time the coming months to contribute, but the project looks very promising.

Does FIREBASE have a website?

Maybe let the people sign up with their email address so when the magazine is published, you can send it to them or send an email with a link to where they can download it...

In the mean time you could keep everyone updated with a newsletter... or ask the public for specific contributions... ("Who has a tutorial on painting yellow with purple dots??")

Dunno, just some ideas.

it sounds like a great idea considering the things we wont mention that is wrong about WD. i have a suggestion for how you kinda make the mag. maybe make it in PDF format so people can download it and read it kind of like an eBook. and maybe if you can get people to email you or send you pictures of the models they have painted and kinda make a monthly model pick of the month for painting it could get some pretty good feed back and alot of interist for people who want to be shown in the mag. it beats the crap out of however many pages it was to the giant.

I'd like to ask something. Would you be willing to put fan made fluff stories in there too?

It will be on Warseer.

Yes, so long as there isn't anything too drastic like: Terra is destroyed and all the space marines turn to Chaos.

Ok, so who is in control of the fantasy version?

ashc is in control of SLAYER.

Hey Darkseer, thought i would add a well-deserved BUMP! :D

I am indeed in control of the fantasy version SLAYER, which will be kicking off properly as of Friday when i have all the free time to really make some headway; I am *hoping* to release issue 1 the same time as FIREBASE, and as Darkseer has already said in his opening post, both will be hosted here on WarSeer.

Is Firebase/Slayer restricted to the current editions?
You mentioned Necromunda and Space Hulk, anything for Gorkamorka?
Are the Web mags open to alternate Minis and Warhammer/40K house rules?

Darkseer
31-05-2006, 20:45
Some of my evil minions are working on GORKAMORKA as well.

No house rules, but there will be campaigns for Necromunda, with new scenarios and enemies.

Will you post rules for other editions of the games like 1st or 2nd 40K, how about 1-6th edition Warhamer?

Darkseer
01-06-2006, 05:03
You mean the actual rules GW published?
If so, then no.

There will be a 2nd edition 40K batrep in there somewhere for the crusty veterans :)

Hell yeah!!!

We finally got a digital camera up at my joint so I'll see about writing up a Bat Rep. Not sure about doing maps as I am for the most part computer illiterate.

Might even write up some short stories featuring former Black Legion Captain, Octavious Thel...

I suggest everyone get off their asses and send in photos of all their cool wips and step by step business.

I will whole heartedly submit photos my models, fanfic and stratergy, I just dont know the format so I have to get an issue to see if it fits.

Submissions to you Adam?

Darkseer if you dont mind me asking but roughly how many pages are you looking for

We're aiming for 200.
But as we've probably met that mark, I'm just rounding up people and articles for issue 1, 2 and maybe even 3.

If you submit work, make it in a Word document, spell check it as well.
Keep images seperate from Word documents as well please.

Hmm, just thinking. A Warseer wide campaign would be pretty cool. But it would be a hell of a lot of work.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Like House Rules, Scenarios, New Wargear/Items, unit types, etc. for editions other than the current editions.
