Hi all, I've recently taken up sculpting again after a bit of a break and after making an ork mek with the greenstuff I had left decided to continue working on my ork army, Da Stompa Boyz.

The army will be all hand sculpted and the vehicles will be scratch built (with some heavily kitbashed parts). Since I don't actually play any more the army is just for fun, also I probably wont paint it - i am not that good at painting and the time it takes can be used to make more stuff!

I posted on a few other forums but haven't received much feedback, hopefully since there are more like minded people here I'll get more comments since I want the army to be really unique and other peoples input is always welcome. I had a log here ages ago but had a bunch of half finished projects on there so want a fresh start and to keep this log for my army.

This is the ork mek that inspired me to start working on the army again:

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/orkmekwip.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/orkmekwip.jpg.html)

been working on the gun and almost finished the sculpt so will post pics soon. It probably will end up as a big mek as its a little large for a regular mek.

Then I did this out of sculpy:

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/orknobwipf1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/orknobwipf1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/orknobwipb1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/orknobwipb1.jpg.html)

going to be a nob of one of the boyz squads, i went for a more fantasy style ork so made some basic choppas for him:

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/choppal1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/choppal1.jpg.html)

I also found some sculpts that I had almost finished and found this grot, finished the arm and little shiv weapons:

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grot1f1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grot1f1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grot1b1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grot1b1.jpg.html)

The army theme is that is my ork mob from gorkamorka that managed to escape the planet, they are obsessed with bioniks and teef so pretty badmoon like but also have a crudeness like the snakebites so a bit of a mix, the grots will be mostly pretty badly equipped since all the teef and scrap is used by the boyz for upgrading their bioniks.

Im going to be writing a bit of story for each character and army so each ork is a character is his own right.

Thanks for looking, any comments and crits welcome!

Found these old sculpts

I finished this guy which is one of the boyz, he is armed with a hook hand and a simple cannon which would be loaded like a blunderbuss...how does he load it?.....orks don't think about these things and neither should you....onto the pics!

I originally made this grot to be a nurgle grot just as a mess about sculpt, I don't particularly like chaos ork cross overs. However I've decided to include this grot in my ork army explaining that his appearance is due to working for a mek that was using a nuklear power plant on a small stompa he was building:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5rWHe3UxwW0/UeVC7s6bUfI/AAAAAAAAAAo/3SSEtWcN0wk/s320/grot2b.jpg

I might do a little more work on him to make less nurgle like in places.

Finally finished the ork mek which started me sculpting again, have to say I enjoyed improving this sculpture on the course of making it.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9enkUcSCPdA/Uear41U_q6I/AAAAAAAAABY/uDRe3PmyWyU/s320/orkmekfinr1.jpg

I made the weapon and tubes look really cobbled together, I reckon he is a bit of a maniac and probably blew himself up at some point which resulted in most of the bioniks making up his body. I also didn't like the little claws on the peg leg so made them stubby toes.

Squigs are an important part of ork society and will be an integral part of my army. I haven't actually looked to see what use a bunch of squigs will be in the game but since I no longer play it doesn't really matter. I can always find a use for them later if I need to.

This squig was one of my old sculpts,

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squigf1.jpg

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squigl1.jpg

I had a comment to add little heal claws and thought I might as well:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C5mhTnlhqHw/UeguYgGWV9I/AAAAAAAAABw/SCcDrcv0vWo/s320/squigupdate1.jpg

I also made a little squig, I'm not sure if I'll add it to another model or not

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fDaU9dAwAro/UeguwuEu6HI/AAAAAAAAAB8/tmBZDZ3k--0/s320/squig2f.jpg

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JivIcMp3uHo/UeguwlbpjXI/AAAAAAAAACE/-UCYSinO8f0/s320/squig2r.jpg

Going to make a bunch more since they are fun and quick to do, also since squigs come in all shapes and sizes it will be fun to come up with some interesting designs.

I like how your orcs capture their crude nature, i'd like to see them painted, keep em coming!

a great wee project to watch!

thanks for the comments, was getting lonely in here :D

I am quite particular in what I like with orks and trying to go for a ramshackle kind of warband, the story is that they began as my old Gorkamorka mob and through a fluke managed to escape the planet, then basically rampaged across the sector and gained orks from all over the place, a load of freebooters I guess. Each ork is a character to me and I'll write a small piece of background for each one.

I probably wont paint much (probably the odd squig) since I am not that confidant a painter and stripping greenstuff seems to destroy the model.

well been a bit longer than I wanted to up date, I've been doing a lot of sculpting and taking in everyones advice so really getting into it at the moment. The break from posting is mainly due to trying to organise where to put my photo booth thing as for some reason i thought i needed one that takes up half the bleedin room. The pics are just quick ones to show some wips.

A long time ago I decided I wanted to make a squiggoth but one that was rokkit powered! I think I did the head even longer ago then added about half the scales before i stopped,

here is the plan i drew up

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/skorchasquiggothplan1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/skorchasquiggothplan1.jpg.html)

and here is where it was when i uncovered it

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squiggothlwip1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/squiggothlwip1.jpg.html)

this is what it was actually like but wanted to show a full body shot

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/newhorn1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/newhorn1.jpg.html)

it was interesting looking at it since there was some random areas of scales where it was obvious i was trying to muster the strength to do it and could only manage small areas sometimes.

Here is where where I am up to now - the pics are in serpia since they are way too busy with all the different coloured putties, also will try to include a model for most my builds so you can see the scale better since I don't game they might be bigger or smaller than you think :D

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squiggothwipscale1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/squiggothwipscale1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squiggothwipr1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/squiggothwipr1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/squiggothwipl1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/squiggothwipl1.jpg.html)

the lightest colour is the new additions
I changed the plan a bit to add a couple of thrusters on the back feet, it has got to fit in with da stompa boyz so needs some bionics :D I remembered why i quit doing it while doing the scales, doing them by hand starts off pretty fun but by the time i finished an area i wanted to throw the thing against the wall, then i saw that i only did a tiny part :( I wanted to use a stamp I made but it wouldn't have matched the existing scales so had to persevere.

I'll probably keep to the plan for the most part, keeping it as a quick burna squiggoth with not that much armour, I might add a few areas for a small squad of boyz to fit on since some of them would want to get into battle as fast as possible and with a load of flames everywhere to make a grand entrance :D

So next up is to make the claws on the back right leg which will be replaced with metal ones, that foot is pretty bashed up, well both the back feet are since the thrusters would do some damage to them, the other one has smaller claws as they would be ground down by the impact of the foot landing and theres also some armour on the pad which has a few spikes on it for extra stomping, unfortunately you cant see in the pics. I'll probably do the tail last as i am looking forward to doing it for some reason and it will keep me motivated.

As always C+C welcome and thanks for looking.

no scales on the head?

Electromancer

At the time I was looking at the forgeworld squiggoths for inspiration and they don't have scales on the face, mine is meant to be a younger squiggoth so the skin is a bit smoother than those. The side picture of the face shows it lacking texture and the line where the scales start isn't blended in as much as i'd like though, since im leaving the head mostly bare i can always add something, will have to see what it looks like with the armour on.

still figuring out what to do with the armour on the squiggoth and which chains to use so I finished a grot and made a few ork heads to use on future boyz

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grotstonef1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grotstonef1.jpg.html)

I found him with his right foot missing which I knew I had sculpted when I was making him, so I decided he must have lost it in some battle or another and gave him a peg leg, then since he only has one arm I decided he wouldn't really be able to get hold of any kind of decent weapon so he'd have to make do with a rock.

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/orkheadswip1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/orkheadswip1.jpg.html)

Was fun making a bunch of heads in one go, the pic is not great but should do for a WIP shot.

Oh I also finished another squig

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/trollsquig.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/trollsquig.jpg.html)

he is pretty chubby and ended up with a bit of a trollface, sorry for the bad pic again, will have to get it sorted.

Not much of an army so far but it is fun lining all the sculpts up and seeing them as a group, I'll have to take some group shots soon.

got most of the basic shapes set for the squiggoth but its at a stage where showing it would make it look crap so i'll post an update when I've added some extra bits.

I've been doing some work on various things as well since I get bored easily as any ork mek would

Baked the ork I made a while ago, it caught a bit but didn't deform any of the details so lucky escape, I've altered my baking set up and nothing has caught since. I also added his choppas

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/orkwithchoppas1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/orkwithchoppas1.jpg.html)

did a small grot/snotling, tried to make it look like his clothes were looted and didn't fit very well

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grotf1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grotf1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grotl1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grotl1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grotr1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grotr1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/grotb1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/grotb1.jpg.html)

then a snotling

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/snotf1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/snotf1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/snotr1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/snotr1.jpg.html)

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/snotb1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/snotb1.jpg.html)

need to adjust things to take better pics since they are so tiny

then I made a mechanical ork which will probably represent a killakan or mega armour

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/kanedwip1.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/kanedwip1.jpg.html)

the pic isn't great but shows what it will be like, I'm going to add an engine on the back, lots of rivets, and make the weapons changeable

And as promised the group shot,

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv329/Eversormancer/group2.jpg (http://s696.photobucket.com/user/Eversormancer/media/group2.jpg.html)

tried to position it all so each one could be made out, a couple of the orks are from my old log. Things are progressing nicely at the moment, also i'll likely add some stuff to various models such as weapons and glyphs in the future so might see a few changes on some of them.

Aaah man, i'm loving this! Really characterful sculpts, brutish and with just enough fun.
