This came up last game.

What happens with two lone models in combat declare a challenge and one refuses.

It came up when a wood elf lord on an eagle charged a Keeper Of Secrets. The Lord had Annoyance Of Nettlings, which meant in a challenge he can only be hit on a 6. So obviously, he challenged, and the Keeper Of Secret accepted. If he had refused, would the Lord have been allowed to allocate his attacks on the Keeper? Or would they just have to sit there and glare at each other?

You can't refuse a challenge if you can't move the model out of base contact. Page 102 of brb.

Well since you cant hide one vs one you cant refuse challenges. The annoance trick is just this, vs lone heroes you will only be hit on a 6.

You can only refuse and get sent to the back when there a back ( or extreme side) to hide behind. Of course thats impossible when your running alone.

Just to expand on this: If your opponent has issued a challenge, then any of your characters that cannot be retired are compelled to accept, meaning that somebody is going to have to answer. The only thing that lets them avoid the challenge is if a different character or champion accepts. After all, a challenge can only be answered by one model.
