View Full Version : Icebergman's Imperial Guard

I got a request awhile back to post pics of my IG that I had used in some of the pics in my City thread. I'm trying for a 1850 point army of IG. So far I have 5 squads, 4 normal and 1 Veteran. So here's the work in progress so far. C&C welcomed.

1st squad

2nd squad

3rd squad

4th squad

I did the cammo using grey white and black on the pants and the sleeves. I only did the sleeves cause I wanted them to be wearing vests, kinda like s.w.a.t. or seals. The armor I painted using black with a little silver in it to give it a really dark metallic look, I wanted their armor to have a sheen to it but still be dark enough for cammo purposes, then I painted the eagles gold.
The guns I painted with the same paint as to give it a "blued" look.
I imagined my troops to be like a special forces type army mostly for infiltration, like the seals, hence why the dark colours. Hard to spot in the rubble of the cities.

The next squad is my veterans in which I played a little with some conversions. The paint scheme is the same as the rest but mostly variations on weapons and gear.

These guys were my favorite to do. The one has a "Long Las" which I made using an 18 gauge brad with the las end on it and some shaped spruce to lengthen the stock, and the other has night vision goggles which I made using a pair of binoculars. I cut the ends off of the "nocs" then glued them together, and turned them around backwards so the eyepieces were the lenses to see through. I painted the lenses yellowish green to get that splinter cell feel to them. Then I made some straps using some .10 card sliced really thin and attached them to the helmet. I did a double barrel las for the night vision guy also.

The next two were more simple. I used a sight from my space marine bits for the one rifle then shaved the head of the other guy to make him bald.

The last is the veteran seargent which I gave a power fist. I know it looks cartoony, but the only fists I had were for marines.

Looking good! The powerfist is huge, but I suppose that is how they are supposed to be. I wish we could see more detail on the armor to get a better look at them.

I tried to get as close as I could and still keep them somewhat clear for pics, sorry.

Very nice cammo there! I don't envy your task of painting that onto 1850 worth of guardsmen, but the end result should look fantastic on the table top.

Yes, the Fist looks a little bit silly, but no one is going to dispute the fact that he has double strenght!

No worries, I completely understand! :) You could try outside on the sunny day, the natural light is sometimes better.

I recently puchased 2 chimeras, a box of shock troops, 2 commisars and a command squad for my army. I'm still working on getting them put together, although I have the chimeras assembled. And here is my question......Is there any way to keep the turrets on the chimeras and still have them moveable? I put them together the way the instructions said but my turrets keep falling off. I thought about glueing them solid but I like the idea of keeping them moveable like the turrets on my 2 russes

i had that problem, how to keep the turret on. what i did was drill a hole in the 'pin' that holds the turret to the hole; then pushed as hard as i could a piece of brass rod slightly larger than the hole diameter then pushed the turret onto the hull (with force) it should make a vaguely satisfying clicky noise and then it shouldn't come off again. i did this to my command chimera and haven't looked back since!

Well guys here's an update for my guard. I recently finished my commander for my IG army. C&C appreciated!!

Looks very good. Nice and haughty commander.

For turrets, I've trie this in the past: glue only the part on which the turret turns, and then have the turret tunr upon it. This is what I did for my Eldar tanks, and they work pretty good.

I hope that was decipherable. Quite early here...

yeah, very nice. is the beard GS?

yeah the beard and eyebrows looks quite good, i thought it was just metal at first, but now realise its not quite a metal beard, its all looking cool so far , well done

Thanks for the comments guys....No the beard isn't greenstuff I just painted it on him, the way that GW sculped his face looked funny to me, so I put a beard on him. I wanted to give him an aged look but not too old thats why I went with the salt & pepper look on the hair and the rest.

Hey! All beards are metal to an extent!

Not a bad looking force there mate, some prety nify ideas. I think the white looks a bit too white, but thats just me. . .
