So I was very excited to see this bad boy go up on BL today: http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/the-ghost-halls-ebook.html

One of the things I was always annoyed by was craftworld Malan'tai being destroyed in the current Tyranid codex, several authors love to create new craftworlds only to destroy them in the same breath. But Malan'tai actually got a little more love (from Ward of all people ) in the GK codex where Purifiers save the craftworlds remains from being devoured by demons and then send word to the Eldar about its location.

Fast forward to the Iyanden supplement and Malan'tai got a final update when Iyanden comes across it in the void swarming with orks and picked clean. The Iyanden Eldar give the orks the boot and send Malan'tai into a nearby sun for it's last voyage. Well :wtf: Ward, did you forget about your own entry in the GK codex?

Thankfully this nagging question in my mind has been answered by the above short story and even has a confirmation of sorts about Anval Thawn

If Black Library's track record is any guide, I'm guessing the book will have the Eldar show up, attempt to do something stupid or betray the Grey Knights, and the Grey Knights beat their chests in self righteous anger and slaughter the Eldar then leave. I don't see much else that can be done in 1000 words while fulfilling Black Library's apparent commandment of demanding a fight scene every so often.

Alternatively, maybe the Grey Knights lay a trap for the Eldar and their signal was the bait. Cue propaganda loop of "Kill the xenos".

Thankfully you are wrong on all counts :p

Then care to enlighten on what the plot is? You can put it in spoilers. I have a bit of a cynical view of all these 1,000 word short stories they are just pumping out in what appears more like a cash grab.

My 3rd hypothesis for the plot: Chaos (Daemons) makes a grab for the spirit stones vs. the Grey Knights +/- Eldar help with the Grey Knights doing the bulk of the work and winning (it being a Grey Knights story).

I can appreciate that, I've become very selective about what I buy from BL. Because this story actually dealt with a specific niche bit of fluff is the only reason I actually bought it:

Brother-Captain Pelenas and his purifiers are standing vigil in one the craftworlds domes 37 days after N'Kari and the demons were defeated. An eldar fleet from an unidentified craftworld approaches the Grey Knight strike cruiser. Despite aggressive posturing from the eldar fleet, the strike cruiser does not fire and eldar fleet docks with the craftworld. Pelenas is approached by the Seer Council (the craftworld is still not named or described) and they rebuke him for being in such a holy place.

Pelenas offers his apologies, asks for forgiveness, and returns those spirit stones they had recovered. The seers hide it well, but are shocked at this exchange, and return his respect with praise of their own. The Grey Knights are escorted out of the system with an Eldar honor guard and their friendship is recorded. Upon returning to their craftworld with all the remaining spirit stones from Malan'tai, the seer council absorbs a final piece of information: that the last surviving Perpetual Anval Thawn has been found and has joined the ranks of the Grey Knights.

A BL story without gratuitous fight scenes? That's a new one. Not pleased about the revelation though as never liked the concept of such special snowflakes in the first place.
