Hi

My friend has recently bought Bloodbowl and has somehow talked me into playing it but, as the thread title says I'm totally clueless when it comes to anything about the game

so I've come to you fine people to help me out, firstly which team is most noob-friendly?

the impression I've got from reading the PDFs on the specialist games site is either Orcs or Dwarfs but I'll submit myself to your wisdom since you all know the game much better than me

Orcs or Humans are the best to learn with.

Dwarves are the easiest to keep alive, but they won't let you learn much about running and throwing.

As mentioned by Keravin Orcs and Humans are the best teams to learn the all-round game with, handily they came in the box. I would suggest playing a few standard Orc and Human matches to learn the ropes before trying something different. I wouldn't suggest playing that competitively for a good few matches.

Cool...........Orcs were one of the couple of teams I really liked the look of

I'll give them a spin in a couple of games when I next see my mate

Cheers :)

Note the new rules(vault) are coming out soon. Actually they even have already come out. Because of their brute strength, orcs have been slightly "nerfed" but humans are practically staying the same. Continuity may be a little difficult if your team's rules change just as you've got used to playing them.

I'd go for humans. An amazing new metal team has just come out, and they're pretty much the best all-rounders.

Venomizer,

Most BB teams are either from one of 2 'camps', POWER teams and AGILITY teams. An example from each would be the Wood Elves & Skaven at the extreme end of the AGILITY spectrum, and Chaos & Dwarves from the POWER side.

It seems to me that you take a fancy to the Power type of teams, Orc & Dwarf. So stick with the Orcs for a bit, as this team still has a thrower. So you can try out the throwing game, but you have no catchers remember. But goblins can be used in this role. Orcs use the well known tactic of forming 'a Cage' and just bashing down the field.

Enjoy and may Nuffle bless your dice.

norse are a lot of fun to play. Bloodbowl isn't a massively complex game to learn (to play well, yes, to learn, no) so I wouldn't say it mattered all that much which team you start with, especially if you're only going to play one off games to begin with

I would go with a basic team before you learn all the subtlties and tactics. find what suits you best.

If you want to try power, go with chaos. Not much in the way of passing tactica, but you will be mega hard. Dwarfs were just too slow for me, i found i had to have a lot of things go exactly my way in order to score at all.

Elves, woodelves especially, are the complete opposite, can run rings around anyone, 9 square of movement on wardancers is great as well. they can easily, with the right combo and a bit of luck, score touchdowns every 3 or 4 turns... but will snap like a dead twig if you smack em.

Ive gone for vampires. a mix, Vampires are very cool with special powers and a bit better than average humans, while thralls are just basic humans. BUt then there are downsides, a bit more of a specialist team. Bloodlust has to be catered for.

If you are starting off ask yourself exactly what you want to do.
Grind opponent down and injure them allowing you a free run to the end zone? Harder than it sounds.... then go with dwarfs. (chaos dwarfs have bull centaurs for speed)

Pretty tough but still some semblance of movelment while not having much in the way of passing... chaos

Inbetween, orcs, humans, norse, amazon. all these have passing, agility, catching, fighting on a sliding scale.

then theres elves, skaven at the other end. Fast, require skill to use effectively.

Look at all the rules... frenzy, hypnotic gaze, dodge, block, thick skull... see what you think.

I would do humans as they are the best team and the easyist team to learn with.

How's that? I can't see a difference, and I'm definitely looking at the newest rules. What am I missing?

thanks for all the advice

I'm going to play a few 'one-off' games with the stuff from the box to get a feel for the rules & the overall game mechanics

after that, team-wise though I'm looking towards all-round teams with maybe a slight leaning towards sheer power
