Has anyone tried playing a game of 40k with something like this playing in the background at low noise levels?

Has anyone had any experience using sounds to make the game feel more in depth?

I think something like this should only be used, if you've gone to the trouble to mount speakers in your minis!

I typically have a heavy metal soundtrack playing during my games.

Not bad. I prefer using themed music though

or gothic themed stuff etc

I use the DoW+DoWII+Space Marine soundtrack when we game at my place. Feels about as fitting as it can get.

I think those sound effects are sufficiently non-40K to be distracting. Anyway, I like to make my own sound effects.

For ambience, I would go for this, instead:

I like the sound of gunfire... I'm gonna make a recording next time I fire my bolter in the Space Marine game
