Hey folks.

About 18 months ago I was struggling with heavy life stuff and not sleeping. Some of my good friends knew I had recently bought into a Reaper Kickstarter, so they suggested I get some off their off-caste Skaven models and get some practice painting miniatures before my Kickstarter stocks arrived. That idea took hold and I tentatively jumped in, spending time in the wee smalls hunched over a desk with plastic vermin. I am sure many of you know what happens next, as Games Workshops insidious plastic crack wormed its way in, and I was hooked.

Recently I turned my attention, again primarily because of the armies friends have been playing with/painting, to Warhammer 40k. Traditionally I would grab onto the prissy and/or pretty looking races such as Eldar, but it was the sonorous tones of Chaos that lured me into the Warp.

Initially I started dabbling with Nurgle and even though the end models did not look too bad, it was my love of all things Egyptian that has turned me to the Thousand Sons. And so I started doing varying versions of traditional paint scheme but after four different test models I was still not happy with the results. After a bit of research I thought why not give one of the Pre-Heresy colour schemes a go, and since my one tester has turned out fantastically (well as far as I am concerned at least), I have now settled on this.

Here is my tester Raptor, complete with third party Egyptian looking shoulder pads and helmet. The rest of his unit are also nearing completion.

I purchased the heads from the Kromlech Ebay store. They are from their 'Stygian' (read Egyptian) range. I also got the shoulderpads from them, not that I actually put up a picture that shows it, silly me ;\
I originally only purchased the shoulderpads from them, but their dirty tactics involved slipping me a free head, and that was all the impetus I needed.

Excited to see this theme as an army! Post some more sooner rather than later!

Do you want to use Pre-heresy models ore just the colour scheme? Would love to see that on an real heresy army.

Well truth be known so would I, however my lovely wife surprised me with a pair of dinobots for Xmas. As she takes great interest in what I am painting and doing with my hobby I will get my 40k army done and then delve into the 30k version :D

First unit completed! Overall I am happy how they have turned out. I doubt many are ever able to match their vision with their skill, but they sure are the best I have done to date. I cannot recommend the Kromlech heads and shoulderpads for that Egyptian feel.

Finally an update. Word of advice to new painters, if you start an army, ensure you have sufficient paint to do the job, especially if it is an OOP paint. I am looking at you Red Gore!

Not my usual pictures, one of my cats decided my light box was a...well you get the picture.

Nice work mate! Love that you used a airbrush for the deamonic glow!

Oh I wish I had an airbrush good sir, but alas no. Its on my Christmas list..

I did that with some extreme drybrushing. Like wipe the brush on a paper towel until you see nothing, then go over the area repeatedly until your hand starts to get sore. The last remaining vestiges of paint come off eventually :D

Struggling with a crisis of faith with colours yet again at present. Regardless though I am trucking on with some cultists.
Here is Sven, WIP of a dirty dirty cultist.

Where's that head from at the bottom of the base?

also you can check out these heads for more Egyptian-styled helmets. I got a few Thousand Sons myself. I just haven't gotten around to photo them just yet. I can link you whenever I get the time. Great paintings otherwise.

Hey forkmaster

It is from the Scibor range of basing kits. In this case it was one of the heads from http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1031#i/reniata/big/basing_kit_egyptian__1.jpg

I have done it. I have completed a unit in my final choice of colour scheme. Without further a do, here are ablative wounds 1 - 5! Yes I know it is a turn around from my red scheme. After all my umm and ahhing it is nice to settle on something.
No coincidence that the colours are close to my favourite rugby team...

I'm going to guess rhino's? The models look good, very different with the kromlech heads. I sometimes struggle half way through painting a model for the first time, but it generally comes together in the end, just have to plod on sometimes I think lol.

Hmm, as I have changed tact I thought it prudent to modify my thread title, but it does not appear I can.
Am I having a man look, or does an admin need to do that for me?
