View Full Version : Price of Starship Troopers

I've been looking around Dublin for a copy of the Starship Troopers game, and found three places with some very irregular pricing:
the first, a comic book store called Forbidden Planet is selling it at 100.
next a different comic store called SubCity has it for 80.
Finally the Fourth Dimension, a gaming store taht only opens at weekends has it for 65.

What I want to know is how some places think they can charge so much for something when a shop literally round the corner has it for 35% less?

Has anyone here bought it, and, if so, for how much? It's advertised on the site for $75, which means the 65 is the most acurate price. How much are gaming stores in the UK and US charging for it?

Perhaps they are basing their pricing on how their distributor prices it (and yes, different distributors might price it differently), and do not bother paying attention if there are other stores selling it at another price?

Here in Helsinki my local game store charges 75 euros for the starter boxed set.

No idea about UK prices, but in US the prices are likely to vary a lot - there are probably several mail order stores selling it for quite cheap.

I got my Starter box in the us for $75.

Ive seen it for 50.

UK price is 50, which if they get it from their UK home FP have converted the price at 2 Euros to the pound. 80 euros is an accurate conversion, 65 seems like a bargain.

Yeah, I was thinking 65 looked good. That's a really cool store though, they'll order in anything you want, and have great staff.

I paid 50 for it here in the UK, which is fairly reasoable, given that you get nearly 75 of models.

if your getting it, do yourself a favour and buy a packet of gree stuff or milliput for those warrior legs, their a pain in the **** to stick together.

If you look at http://www.leisuregames.com/acatalog/NewReleases.html you will find that they are discounting Starship Troopers already. (Scroll down to the bottom of the page).

A promo or are sale that bad they want to get rid of stock?

WOW leisure games is WAAAYYYYYYYY over priced.

We in the US are paying $15 from www.thewarstore.net I got the starter box for about $65.

The models are excellent, the price is right, and the game plays VERY well.

At Thought Hammer (http://www.thoughthammer.com) You can get the starter set for US$53

24-06-2005, 04:08
Sorry, starter set is only 59.99, plus 3.95 shipping (USPS Priority 1-3 day mail) total $63.94. And you get it about 1-3 days later. I rounded up to $65. Orders under $75 are charged a flat $3.95, orders over $75 are shipped free.

Thought hammer has it for 53, but then you get a $10 shipping charge (Fedex Ground 2-5 day delivery) and you wait longer. And yeah you can use economy shipping, but it's $6 AND you have a 7-14 day wait.

I dunno, for sales and service, I cant find someone to beat The War Store. But use who works for you!

Thought hammer does have free shipping for orders over $100 and there are many positive comments about their service in the board game community.

Well the Uk prices always were high by comparison to the US ones
course it is still too expensive in my mind to make a bug army

My local shop charged me $50 for the starter to get me into the game.

Jazzdude, buy 2 starter game boxes and swap the MI for bugs with some MI players :) You'll have all the warriors you need, other units are fairly reasonable priced.

Skinnies are fun to play. They've become my fav army right now. I bought a bunch of the metals and I really like them. They appeal to me more in "real life" than in the pictures I saw previously on the web.

Oh, and skinnies in teams of 2, one with a neurobeam another with the skinnie bomb is just UGLY...

Not too expensive either at 3 for $9. Note that a skinnie is more metal than a human. And somewhat poseable for metal miniatures.

Recently, on TheMiniaturesPage.com, I heard that Mongoose Games is running a 'price adjustment' on its merchandise. Unlike a GW price adjustment, the prices in Europe are supposed to go down. Funny ol' world eh?That is correct. There were some complaints that the UK prices didn't quite match the US prices, so Mongoose dropped the UK prices to match the US prices.

IMHO, that shows Mongoose will respond to complaints from customers and or potential customers. That shows a positive attitude to what we/customers think and want. Beats the heck out of the "who cares" attitude of "some companies".
