I'm going to buy a chaos spacemarines army from a friend at the end of the summer, but I'm not sure how to paint them. I'm either going for Black legion or sons Of Horus. What's your opinions, please state why you voted what you voted.

Cheers

I rarely see a Sons of Horus army but I do like the colour scheme and heraldry.

The one thing you will have to come up with, against a more pedantic opponent, is an explanation of why exactly your Sons of Horus decided not to become 'Black Legion' with the rest of the Sons of Horus.

If you already consider a pre-heresy black legion, why not Lunar Wolves I find their paintsheme more appealing then the SoH one.

@ subtext: I want to do a pre-heresy Luna Wolves sometime in the future.

@ chivalrous: That shouldn't be to hard:).

@ The Keeper of Secrets: I could do that, but I'm bigger fan of The black legion/sons of horus than plague marines.

Black Legion -WE ARE RETURNED - I love them - I'm doing mine aswell now and sorta crossing them with the salamanders for a very burny legion - If we are gonna let the galaxy burn we might as well do it properly

Word Bearers. They get the same Daemon access as the Black Legion and have a more attractive color scheme.

Sons of Horus.

They have a better paintscheme.

Black Legion all the way!

Sons of Horus is 10'000 old - it's nice to play games to influence Campaigns in the 41st millennium.

If just for hobby purposes I guess painting white would be more of a challenge, though.

I prefer custom legions as i find it is more personal though devoloped fluff might be more appelaing. Also the fact that i have Ultwe and BT already both of which are black kinda makes me biased against Black Legion

i've voted for sons of horus. i like all pre/during-heresy stuff!! it's a great chance to convert miniatures and to let your imagination flow...

besides, you may make 'em their own background... perhaps some marines which kept loyal to the emperor???

I say go with Sons of Horus. They're not completely pre-heresy and not as plain as the Black Legion. Plus, I've already seen atleast three Lunar Wolves armies but have yet to see a proper Sons of Horus army done.

I don't know about pre-heresy stuff. That's OK for tournaments or one-off games, but they're kind of hard to fit into any sort of campaign unless the whole campaign is set pre-Heresy.

Sons of Malice. =)

Sons of Horus...
All you need to say is that they didn't side with Abaddon, still venerate Horus, and have been fighting thier own campaign for the last 10000 years.
Plus, they have a nice paint scheme...:D

Nah - black legion - Search for a chaos space marines diary, read that and then say black legion lacks character

Ironhand

I didn't say BL lacked character, I just think Word Bearers look better.

I am just starting a Chaos army also and have been debating about a color scheme. I am not a fan of the BL scheme, seems very boring and plain. I think you should do your own legion. I do like the Luna Wolfs but seem to go agianst any fluff.

Doing SoH would be sweet and more beleivable to use in the 41st. But all in all do a paint scheme you would have the most fun painting with. Otherwise you will never finish them.
