Where are GW hiding the FAQ's?

That's a really good and slightly intimidating question.

Looks like they're gone.

Not that we'de had any in a year anyway of course, but this potentially means that all those FAQs we were using to resolve things are now invalid.

Cool, I suggest we go back to head bashing contests to settle rule arguments.

To get the new FAQs, please repurchase your Army Book in digital format, and also use apple devices because even though Android as ~80% of the market share, we arent programming for that...

"To enhance the spirit of Warhammer, we have removed all FAQ's and other easy solutions to arguments between you and your friends about Warhammer. We suggest resolving these with battleaxes and bolter guns, preferably while shouting the name of your favored deity."

Yeah sounds about right.

I was actually expecting them to get rid of the FAQ and Errata pages. It was obvious that they didn't want to deal with rules questions anymore. Time to brain dump all those answers since it looks like they are invalid now. On the bright side, Unmodified Leadership is more clear without the FAQ.

I hoping that they either just:

A. Overlooked it with the removal of all the specialist stuff

or

B. Are being nice to us and will have a bunch of updated FAQs out soon.

But it's probably the first one.

I just sent them an email. Doubt I will see a non deflective response.

In a way those rumors about 9th Edition coming out were correct. 8th Edition without the FAQ/Errata pages is kinda like a new edition.

I'd not be too concerned about that one. All the FAQ did was make it especially clear for a few clots what it did, everyone else already grasped it just fine.

Too bad half the local Fantasy players fall into that group of clots.

All any of the FAQ's do is clear things up for the "clots" out there. It's the erratas that will be missed.

Does this mean my wood elves get to use the old slot-based FOC and my Waywatchers get their super-scout deployment back?

I've been waiting to put my tooled up dragon lord back in 2k.

I'll only believe it when I actually see it, especially considering that the new message is rather similar to the auto-reply you get when you submit a question to the FAQ department/e-mail.

But if we don't have the FAQ's/Errata's back within a month, I think it'll be fairly safe to assume that GW are trolling us from now on.

There is a thread discussing exactly this in the 40k section and they have a DW transcribed phone calls and email responses which appear to bear this out.

Oops! Yes, this is a fowl up and GW know it and are working on a fix. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Meanwhile as a community we should help those out who need copies of the latest versions.

I'm a lot more interested in the new shopping categories - being able to view all the minis by unit type and troop type seems to bear out the rumor we'll be able to field some sort of allies in regular games. know you want to add some MC to your army? great, sort out all the MC for easy viewing and take your pick.

I've read here that the new webstore have been in the work for around 9 months. Beside all the sorting options not working properly, how could they "forget" something like the FAQs section? I'd reckon they'd have some sort of checklist to see that everything was ready before making the switch?

Sure, like every other thing that's ever been released online. No electronic product has ever been sold only to require an immediate patch or update.

Wait.

No I... I think I mean the opposite of that...

It's the internet, that's why. It's like a baby, if you can't see it it no longer exists.

Why would their absence on the website invalidate the faqs and erratas anyway?

Why would they still be valid if they no longer exist?

If an errata version 1.1 is removed from the site and changed to version 1.2 then 1.1 no longer exists and isn't valid.
If the errata is just removed completely, it's the same thing. It doesn't exist now so can't possibly be valid.

If they're not supported on the website they lose any claim to being official. What it comes down to is if you started playing today, your version of official warhammer would have zero FAQ's or errata because you'd have no access to an official version of either.

I'de be quite surprised if your printed copies suddenly ceased to exist.
That doesn't mean they're still valid.

It's entirely up to you and your opponent.
But the official backing has gone (for now) so you can't say here's the latest FAQ this is how it works now because it's no longer available.

If you do not enjoy this crap, switch over to warmachine. I played warhammer for 18 years, and two years ago i tried warmachine. i played two games and then never looked back. The models are not quite as nice, but the game is miles and miles ahead of the crap GW releases. The rules are a little more difficult at first but they are extremely clear and well defined. you can not break the game by just "spamming the best unit" and the games are very VERY much more exciting to play.

Do yourself a favor, go to privateerpress website, get your new army and live happily ever after :)

Troll thy name is Lord Tsunami.

Seriously, people here may complain, but they do so because they love the game. No need to come missionizing about your page 5 here. Let's not turn this into a warmachine vs. warhammer topic.

I just started playing Hordes myself. It's as fun as anyone can have in a game of tabletop warfare. At a skirmish level. It in no way should be considered a replacement for Warhammer.

normally if something Vanishes it's like it no longer exists. But a new website is a uncommon thing, and if you have ever ran a site that changed in anyway you know things get lost/deleted, The onus should be on us gamers to understand that, and not instantly invalidate everything and descend into chaos. That said GW needs to get this fixed asap.

As an aside, a friend and I had an experiment with Hail Caesar but playing with Fantasy models and converting their stats to the different system (there's actually guides of how to price units by their stats and skills, so it's pretty easy). Apparently it's essentially like playing Warmaster in terms of game style. Anyway, don't want to derail, just thought I'd mention it as an option if you're actually after an army-level alternative.

Ive played it and kings of war, neither were to my taste. Not that they were bad games or shouldn't be played but I have hitched my wagon to the Warhammer mythology and only started hordes because Mordheim is too hard to find a game of.

Seeing the specialist games go under - that's one thing.

But having the FAQs missing is not the end of the world! I'm pretty sure they will be back soon

This is what "soon" means to GW.

In 2007 after a short break from the game I asked if I could still use my 2004 Bretonnian army book or if a new one had come out. The answer I got was "The current Codex is the one from 2004 but don't worry, a new codex will be out soon".

Yes companies have a biblical sense of the word soon. but Just don't worry, if all else fails people have all the faqs stored.
