As above, not trying to make a jab at GW or anything just an honest question.

Is there any reason to buy the storm troopers codex? Are they not included in the IG codex?

If you just want to use them in a guard army I'm sure you'll just need the Astra Militarum book.

The Tempestus book allows you to field them as either a stand alone force (as scoring units) or as an ally to another imperial army.

Storm Trooper/Scion Platoons are included in the AM codex, but as an elites choice.

Militarum Tempestus lets you use Scion Platoons as troops, and also gives Scion Command Squads their own unique set of orders.

Apart from that, it has a more limited selection of units (Just Commissars, Chimeras, Taurox Primes, Valkyries, Vendettas, Scion Command Squads, Scion Squads) and probably its own Warlord Traits.

So the MT book is just there if you want an all Stormtrooper Army (which is probably going to see a lot of use as allies).

Or if you just want to know more about Stormtroopers- the AM book is going to have one page of info about stormtroopers, while the MT book, the entire thing is about stormtroopers and commissars, so it will have a lot more specific fluff about them.

They get their own Warlord traits and a couple of formations, but no access to chimeras or vendettas in MT.

It honestly depends. If all you want is a squad or two in a more general Astra/Guard army, then obviously not. If you want mostly normal guard allies for another army, but maybe backed up by a Scion squad, then still no.

If you want the Scions to be the focal point of whatever hodgepodge army (or strictly Scion army) you're building... thats when you buy the MT book.
