I just checked FW, but I didn't see a Chaos War Mammoth. Have they stopped making the model? If so, I'm going to be mad that I didn't get one sooner.

Too bad, get used to it. If there's anything else you want from them I suggest you pick it up now before the mold wears out and they don't bother to replace it. Because, "Fantasy doesn't sell enough stuff".

I believe Westwind Miniatures make a decent, and cheaper, alternative

EDIT: here (http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_4&products_id=828)

Well it's like 5 times smaller, it better be cheaper indeed.

I did like that mammoth , I imagine it will go for about 10k on ebay now? Wich is a bargain when you consider the bretonian trebuchet is apparently worth 2k :p

That's it. I quit my job and now I make trebuchets out of balsa wood and toothpicks for a living.

If only forgeworld could make more cool stuff for fantasy like the command groups, alternative bits etc rather than spewing out oversized, overpriced alternatives.

Odd though it is still listed in the latest Forge world catalog, even if it is not on the website.
Any one have direct information from FW?

I emailed them and they said it is gone forever. However, they "might" consider making a new one in the future :(

I was trying to buy it too :(

Lord of the Rings has a similar scale giant elephant.

It got the elephant-creature from Toys R Us for $50 (it cannot remember the line but it was the same scale and has a platform on the back of the creature and everything)

Apparently discontinued, according to the big thread about the supposed end of warhammer forge. Shame really, it has been on my shopping list for the day when I have silly expendable income. Alas, it got discontinued before I reached having the silly expendable income.

They've said exactly the same thing for another model just recently (the Emperor Dragon?), so not much hope in my eyes, just sounds like a standard reply.

I don't mind, I got in and got my merwyrm before fantasy forge gets shut down forever, so therefore I'm happy :)

Wait, how old was the kit?

I remember it being there when I first got into fantasy back in 07. So it's not like they just discontinued a Chaos Dwarf kit.

Ultimate Life Form

Well, it certainly wasn't the newest in the range and the OP had enough time to get it.

I think what annoys most people is GW's (and Forge World's) non-existent information policy. When they release something new they announce it on all channels with flashy ads that jump you in the face. When they withdraw something then - nothing. No announcement, no warning, no explanation, no excuse - it just vanishes. It's as if it never existed. Anyone know George Orwell's 1984? GW is the Big Brother. Except without a face or any likable traits.

It was shown first time at the GD 2002 and was released early 2003 for sale

Well how about yes? Pretty much the best alternative I've seen. Opinion shared by quite a few folks, as I believe I've seen it shown in other similar topics.

Hmm. Sad to see it went the way of the dodo, but it DOES settle the question "what am I going to do with mine".
If it went oop, I might as well sell it to a more worthy painter, instead of putting it together and cursing it with my limited painting skills.

When I get around to putting it up, I'll try not to forget to advertise it here.

Could always call/email and ask them. The Forge World guys are usually very forthcoming about what's going on when a model disappears.

So, I took it upon myself to email Forge World to indulge my curiosity on the matter. This is what they said:

Hi there.

The War Mammoth was removed from sale as some extensive repair work was needed for the master model. When this was undertaken it soon became apparent that this was not something that would be achievable in a reasonable amount of time and would require one or more of our sculptors to be taken off of other more pressing projects (the original sculptor also no longer works for us). As such the model in its original form will not be returning although we may produce another model to replace it at some point. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Regards,
Forge World

So, there we have it. The wooly pachyderm has joined his real world cousin in extinction. If you have one, save it or sell it off to the highest bidder.

"We may produce another model to replace it at some point" from FW translates into "dream on, kiddo". They can't even put a sculptor on repair duty - so who in his/her right mind really believes in a complete new sculpt? Not going to happen.

Oh, I don't buy it either, but at least they were somewhat up front about why it's not available, though the fact that they don't keep a master sculpt seems odd to me.

Too bad, also lost out on the chance to pick up some Warhammer Forge models myself.

Still - at least I got my Cursed Etin, Magma Dragon, and Elemental of Beasts!

Heh, I was just looking at that!

EDIT: Speaking of Incarnates, I just started a Chaos Dwarf force, and wanted the Incarnate of Fire for my Destroyer..... that thing has now straight up vanished.

I'd imagine the naming of the buffed characters during the End Times as Incarnates of ** may be the reason for the removal of the WF big monster versions.

I personally think it's more of a sales thing, but that does make some sense warlordbob - although I'd imagine if the models were making them money, it'd be madness to stop selling them.

I suppose I should have picked one up when I had the chance, but when it was available I had no plans for a CD force unfortunately.

I doubt it, we already know that Warhammer Forge models are dropping like flies. Besides, they no longer sell the book the Incarnate of Fire is in.
