Any suggestions on how to deal with the Hellcannon. I have had poor luck against it and was looking for some tactical advice.

Pray for your 66% chance to not hit anything. Or keep it busy with something fast and semi durable.

Poison Arrows, teleport a treeman next to it with Drycha's ability maybe into a nearby forest.

Wild riders should be decent. Fast, brutal offense and can't be stomped.

The hellcannon is brutally hard to deal with for most armies. Unbreakable and effectively 8 wounds in alot of cases along with both armour, reasonable T, decent offense and ward save.

You would need a ton of poison arrows still with 6s and then 5+ 5++ and, as said, in alot of cases effectively close to 8 wounds with the handlers.

Let's say you fire 100 poison arrows at it. 16,6 hit on 6s, 10,956 left after armour, 7,23096 left after ward save. So yes, you need almost 100 arrows to bring it down. That's not counting the ones that hit and wound on 6's but that's a fairly small amount.

Just divide 7,23096 by the chance to hit but not have a 6 and you have the wound on 6s hits. So if you hit on
2+ 4,82064 -> 65 shots
3+ 3,61548 -> 74 shots
4+ 2,41032 -> 83 shots
5+ 1,20516 -> 95 shots
6+ 0 -> 111 shots
worse -> you don't have poison and deal less than a wound per 100 attacks

Meh, it's not really that bad.

Let's say you take 54 shots poison shots at it: at long range (no other mods, 4+ at BS4) on average that's 18 regular hits and 9 poison. The other 18 wound on 6's, for 3 more (total 12). The 12 are saved on a 5+ (down to 9), then another 5++ (down to 6). That's likely 2 handlers dead and 3 off the cannon. You're more than 1/2 way there and with a bit of luck you polished off all the handlers and have a Ld4 rampaging monster that won't be fast enough to engage you. Otherwise ~27 more shots will kill it on average.

As for the other non poison not adding much, they bump the raw wound total another 33% - more than significant enough to take into account.

12 on 5+ are 8, then another 5++ goes down to 5.3. Your end result is correct, just wanted to point that out if someone was wondering.

Killing all three handlers with that on the other hand is quite unlikely (21%), BUT killing the cannon in one go isn't too unlikely itself (13%) and together you got a 33% chance to "get rid of the threat" (given it can't charge anything successfully without its handlers).

Yes, that sound closer to correct. So much for showing math at 3am in the morning while also working.
