Unfortunately base sizes are not listed alongside stats (just some vague rubbish about "base it's supplied with" which presumably means my ancient 20mm based marauders are as legal as my new 25mm ones) The French however do get a chart for some reason, but it is pretty old http://sgabetto.free.fr/Telechargements/m2480001_feuille_ref_WFB_PU-Socles-Type.pdf but interestingly does have bases for warmachines. Unfortunately most of our war machines seem not to have bases causing all manner of extra problems. Still, I thought it would be helpful to list the base sizes that citadel miniatures have and their typical uses (will be useful should you need to buy (much cheaper) lasercut mdf replacements online).

20mm - Small & "disciplined" close order infantry - Goblins, Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Squig hoppers
25mm - larger and "wilder" troops - Orcs, Marauders, lesser demons
25mm x 50mm - cavalry, war beasts, dogs
40mm x 40mm - monstrous infantry, swarms - Ogres, Trolls, Treekin, Beast of Nurgle, Salamander, Pegasus Knights, Spawn, Warhawk riders, Gyrocopters, Carrion
40mm x 60mm - monster base - Skarsnik and Gobbler, Grail Relique
50mm x 50mm - monster base - Demon Prince, Greater Demon, Bone Giant, Shaggoth, Varghulf, Great Taurus, Razorgor, most old dragons, great eagle, Disc of Tzeentch
50mm x 75mm - monstrous cavalry, monstrous beasts - Skullcrushers, Demigryphs, Dragon Ogres, Giant, Treeman
50mm x 100mm - chariots, large monstrous cavalry, large monsters - Jabberslythe, Ghorgon, Warsphynx, Warshrine, Luminark, Mournfangs, Necropolis Knights, Greasus, Phoenix, Steam tank
60mm x 100mm - Screaming Bell, HPA, Bale Taurus, Cauldron of Blood
80mm x 100mm - Skullcracker
100mm x 150mm - largest monster base - Hellcannon, Soul grinder, Arachnarok, Thundertusk, Exalted Seeker chariot, Zombie dragon

As/if people give me tips/corrections, I will amend this post

Awesome, thanks, also found this official English one from 2003 http://www.oocities.org/mi_whplayers/card_playsheet_v2.pdf Doesn't have the warmachine base sizes of the French. Lets hope 9th mandates them on bases to remove that anomaly and all the abuse it spawns

Squig hoppers are cavalry now.
That pdf is incorrect, the first entry I checked (High elf griffon) is wrong. it goes on a 50x50 base.

That pdf is incorrect,
Are you referring to the pdf in the first post, in the post above yours or the one that was quoted in the post above yours?

I'm referring to the one from the dropbox link.

You are right, that wasn't the document I wanted to link (it popped up in my history and I thought it was the right one) and I can't find the one I downloaded online anymore :/

Squig hoppers are cavalry and frankly I would like to see them rebased to 25 x 50 but I guess there is little appetite to do this.

The Magma Dragon (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/MAGMA_DRAGON.html) comes on a 100 x 150mm base.
The Dread Saurian (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warhammer_Monsters/DREAD_SAURIAN.html) doesn't come with a base due to it's huge size.

I'm fairly sure that's correct, I'm sure somebody who owns either model could clarify.
