Just curious, I recently scored a copy of Imperial Armour II (cheap too, I love EBAY) and after perusing it I got to thinking. Its clear that all the vehicle stats and point totals conform (pretty much) to VDR. So why is IA stuff seen as more official than VDR?

because its in a big shiney book that everyone can read

Probably because alot of people see the VDR as being cheesy but IA as being nearly as good as the regular rules

Maybe because Forgeworld never made the Twin Linked Mega Blast Gattling lascannon armed 20 transport deepstriking landraider.

Forgeworld's IA vehicles use the VDR in the restrained way that they work best.

Because IA is playtested and such, and is supposed to make (fluffy) sense.

Because too many power gamers try to make over powered vehicals with VDR.

How often do you see maxed armor, twin linked mega weapons using VDR? How often from Forge World?

You have to trust that a person is not a power gamer to be comfortable with units he or she makes up.
