I have a hard time getting games in so I was thinking of trying a little play by e-mail on the side so I keep from sucking. Surprisingly I haven't come across a club or something doing this so I wrote up some logistics of PBEM WH40K for powerpoint. I wrote them up in powerpoint and turned them into pics (I'll post them here as thumbnails). I hope PBEM isn't a problem here. So long as we're buying their books and models I wouldn't think GW would mind us getting some e-mail games in on the side.

Let me know if you have any ideas or if I missed something that will often come up, or if you'd like to give it a try!

Double post since this forum won't let you put 5 images in a single post. Thumbnails should take up much bandwidth though.

Well, I am sure interested being as where I am currently stationed I really cant play.

A question about the dice rolling site, do you post the results or something in the email, or is it taken on good faith.

The dice rolling site I mentioned e-mails the results when it rolls. So you enter a description of the roll and e-mail address and then push the button.

By the way props to the soldier.

Well, I am interested so fee free to PM me sometime to try and get a game started. I will have to check and see if the site is blocked, I am on the Iraqi internet so we will see. If it doesnt work we can figure something out, or I just have to go to the coalition side of the base(I live on the Iraqi side).

Edit: You may have to explain how I get all the templates done and all that, but I am willing to learn.

PM sent.

Anyway I wanted to point out for anyone else reading that I covered stuff like that in the suggested PBEM rules I posted above. Feel free to comment on them if you see glaring problems.

You might find this really helpful. It keeps the dice rolling honest, too.

Actually, I think that it's a free download.

Actually, I think that it's a free download.

When I went to the site and started trying to download it the terms and conditions said that it used to be free but now they charge. I guess I didn't press further to see if there was some kind of limited free version.

Well for now you'd need to have power point. Though I'm sure there are other ways to do it. And so far we've got a basic protocal, a detailed example of how to actually manage PBEM moving and shooting and a sample map. Which I can e-mail to you.

So far people seem to like the protocal. The only issue is on secrecy. How much do you tell your opponent about your models and when.

If there was an alternitive to using power point I'd be up for it.

You mean play a game in a thread instead of with e-mail? It won't work with pictures as you can't freely move things around. However I suppose one could link powerpoint files off of a personal ftp server along with a picture in the thread to make it work.

Also if you save the powerpoints from each step it would be easy to turn a PBEM game into a battle report

If there was an alternitive to using power point I'd be up for it.

I believe there is something called autorealm that would work. I know there are others as well. If you figure one out and tell the rest of us people might start using that. For now powerpoint is just what a lot of people have and know how to use, it probably isn't the best program for PBEM.

Well so far I like how the PBEM is working, the rules are simple enough and Sunnyside has a very good tutorial on how to make everything work.

I will try and play as many as these games as I can because it will allow me to get a play by play of my army and allow for improvements and the ability to try out new units without having to buy them.

So feel free to PM me if you want an additional game.

I would be interested to see if this can be applied to Necromunda.

Now that would be interesting, but personally I wouldnt know how you would do the 3D required for it.

I'm playing with the OP right now - despite the fact that the list I took is kind of cheesy (sorry... I figured MCs would be a great way to minimize the number of models I had to move around :( ) the system is working out great. No foul ups so far, and I think it's almost faster in total time than a real game because you can roll an entire turns worth of complicated shooting all at once (Try a devil fex shooting a falcon with holofields and spirit stones done with two mouse clicks!)

Sunny side nice job, sounds interesting and it will keep me from gettin rusty and try new things with an army. PM me.

(EDIT) About the dice rolls I believe I have a simple solution. AIM which is free can simulate dice rolls easily. But requiers the user to open a chat with another one to activate dice rolling. It does any where from 1-15 dice from 1 to hundreds of sides.
