View Full Version : The Wraithlord- what do you think it will do?

I ask the GW guys at the Conflicts about what it will do and thus far it having the ability to wear a pink tutu for 30 points is all I got. they are being pretty tight lipped about the whole codex (not surprised)

but I have seen pics with the wraithlord holding a shield instead of the sword as well as having 2 heavy wpns mounted on his shoulders, or shuriken cannons where the the catapults should be.

my best guess is they will make him like the carnifex, fully customizable. the shield will either give him a 4+ invulnerable or a 2+ armour save(or 3+ depending what they do cant see them making him 4+armour)

Hoping for a mounted D cannon like the old skool lords

the only thing I was told that is set in stone is that he is still toughness 8.

what do you guys think/ heard/ seen he will get?

pics with a sheild? havent heard of those,

can you share them?

i dont want the wraithlord to be completely customisable. i like how it is now. i dont want it to be like a eldar "carnifex". i think it should be unique in its abilities

wish I could but it was at a games day thing in one of their binders with all the developing stuff, it was the shilloette though

I had a feeling that GW will turn the Wraithlord into a elder carnifex, personal i rarther liked the old rules, you knew what to expect when one turned up, now you have a uber monster that may be fully customizable. Bad medicine:( .

I'm guessing like this:

T8, of course. Really, current statline as-is. Can mount up to two heavy weapons, comes with two catapults as standard, and may be equipped with a sheild to give it a 5+ invulnerable save. The sword I think is just for looks.

I don't think it'll be that customisable, just a selection of diffrent guns and "Do you want an invulnerable save for +15 points?"

Yay! Inexpensive wraithlords as elites choices! :D

But more seriously, I don't think you need to worry about the wraithlord becoming a carnifex clone. Comparing a customizable wraithlord to a carnifex is like comparing it to a daemon prince. Yeah, they're monstrous creatures, and yeah, they have different options you can give them, but that's where the similarities end.

And I haven't yet seen any indication that the wraithlord upgrades will change his basic statline; they all seem to be equipment.

I think it'll have a little higher movement, and maybe more weapon combos.
It looked like two shuricats on it's arms rather than a shuricat and flamer.

Either way, the gaps those shuricats make on the model are getting filled up with green stuff.
Looks like he has bad wings right now.

The way I see it is like this:

Sword - Nothing special. Just represents a CCW, which as the WL is a Monstrous Creature, is essentially a PW with extra pen anyway.

Shield - Possible inv save in CC at the expense of heavy weapon options

Heavies - 1 heavy weapon which can be twin linked. No option to have 2 different weapons

Catapaults - Standard TL catapaults with option to upgrade 1 to a Flamer.

That is exactly how I would like to see the Wraithlord in the new incarnation.
It makes it much more specialised, which is, of corse, the Eldar way.

Would be nice if some options would exist to tool him for different tasks.

And of course the D-Cannon.

Ahhh, I just canīt wait any longer to hold that codex in my hand.

A hand held D-Cannon would be so nice. Its such a shame to see one of our signature weapons relegated to support platforms.

I dont think its going to happen but i can close my eyes and dream...

I think the sword indicates that it has no longer the ability of carrying dread-cc-weapons, bringing the WL more in line with other monstrous creatures.

Beside of this, yeah, eldar fex / DP is what we can expect.

Ah D-Cannons, how I miss you. When I saw the Wraithlord with a Vibro Cannon in the CoD book, my heart skipped a beat.. but alas, GW you are a cruel mistress..

The sword will mean its not strength 10 and now strength 5..
This is a bad thing.

This is a bad thing.

It also means no +1A bonus for 2 CCWs like it gets currently. But if the model's statline is modified to compensate, it might not matter.

Assuming it stays the way it is.

There's no point speculating what may or may not happen until someone gets the codex in their greasy hands and reads the rules.

Nothing says Dreadnought close combat weapons have to be huge fists, for a start...

Ravenous

agreed it will most likely stay the same but with custom options (well hopefully)

Im crossing my fingers for the shoulder mounted dcannon, vibrocannon, or shadoweaver.

I for one wouldn't mind the Wraithlord becoming an "Eldar Carnifex".

Call me ignorant if you will, but I fail to see how a crapload of customizable options is a bad thing. The only unique thing about the Wraithlord is that it's a creature that has dreadnought close combat weapons; big deal, that's like getting a space shuttle and complaining that it doesn't have a rearview mirror to hang your fuzzy dice off of.

This seems to be happening a lot with new releases, it's like it's a sin for two armies to have any kind of similarity at all.

"OMG! Aspect warriors have 4+ saves! *******' Tau clones!!!!1!!!"

Seriously, it's quite rediculous.

Rant aside, I don't care what they do with the Wraithlord. It's still awesome and i'll still be buying one, and using my rare earth magnets to let me use any weapon combo.
