View Full Version : 8th Edition House Rules?

Hi all

Just a question really, with the impending release of the Age of Sigmar and the sweeping aside of both the game and the background I've loved and lived in for (more than) a couple of decades now, I'm finding myself very reluctant to learn an entirely new game with an entirely new background.

I'm actually quite happy with a lot of things in 8th Ed, but there's a few things that naturally tilt the game (looking at the Magic phase in particular).

My question is, without any hope of any more new editions of the game of Warhammer Fantasy Battle as we know it - are there any resources out there that list a good, balanced set of tweaks that act as a good set of house rules?

Short answer : no.

Long answer : AoS is still in the mist, and as long as we are not sure about it, few people are really trying to write house rules.
Also, everyone as a different point of view on the matter, and it will be hard to find something universal.
Best i can advise is to take a pen and write your most obvious house rule for your local gaming group.

There are a couple of threads already discussing this with some good ideas here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?316058-WFB-8th-Edition-House-Rules-%28Mini-9th-Edition%29) and here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?410254-Warhammer-8th-Discombobulated-house-ruling). Also, there is a great list of alternative games here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?410157-What-other-mass-ranked-fantasy-wargames-are-there&p=7470136&viewfull=1#post7470136) if you just want to escape GW.

(perhaps off topic) As for the general rumour mongering about the background, I probably haven't paid enough attention to whats potentially happening, BUT, the backgrounds not going anywhere. Its background. History isn't changing, times progressing, and new background is being written. That won't stop you not liking the potential rules changes, but that doesn't change the rich fluff that surrounds the armies/races/characters. It simply adds new fluff.

Thanks man - yeah, just looking to coddle some stuff together to keep using 8th assuming there's going to be the seismic shift that it looks like will happen. And I just want to get together what stuff is out there for inspiration before it vanishes with the new 'edition'

Thanks for that - got one of those but not the other one, so that really helps. Not looking to jump ship, my thing is more that I don't have the time/money/energy to learn a new game, and AoS is looking like it is actually a new game.

As for the background, history's all well and good but it looks like it's gone further than that - new world, new map, new religions, new races even (essentially). That's a bit much for me, when my love of this game comes from over 25 years of familiarity.

I still hope for the best, especially when one of my armies looks like they'll still be valid (Skaven), but the other one is pretty much nuked (Dwarves). Like I say, hoping for the best, just preparing for the worst

With the rules that have been leaked so far, those threads I mentioned might be getting lots of love. I can't see many people wanting to play AoS, even if the models turn out to be good (not a fan of the current pics I've seen).

Its probably worth mentioning warhammer CE (www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?373349-Warhammer-CE-the-definitive-rule-set-for-WFB-veterans) too. It looks to be a very interesting set of rules.

I think you're right. It'll bring lots of new players in, but I'm skeptical if any of the veterans will stick around

Worth mentioning?! This is awesome!! It'll take some study, but first glance and it looks just like what I'm looking for. Thanks man!
