Hey all

I'm looking to get back in to 40k (not yet played this edition).
I'm going to give orks a go and hope to build a 1k friendly list, that doesn't get easily beaten every time.

I have the Stormclaw box to build from, so that includes-

Warboss
5 x nobz
10 x grotz + herder
3 kanz

I really like a lot of the newer stuff but not really sure where to start?
Any suggestions?

Honestly, the easiest choice should be the best. You may here different things from different people but here is my 2 cents. Boyz, a good amount of Boyz, at least around 60, each group of 30 led by a nob with a power klaw. In all the times I've played as Orks, which is only a few but I've played as them, and each time I've played alongside or vs them, which is a ton, Boyz have always done alot of the heavy lifting for the force. They have the numbers to take casualties and will be seen as a threat, and the klaw remains the best bet for dealing with any vehicles of moderate to high AV value that may plague you.

Seeing as that is a large number of things needed, that should keep you busy for a bit. I'm sure others will have other ideas and I'll chime in now and then further if this thread lasts that long, hope that helps.

The Mekmob box is designed to fit well with the stormclaw orks, with no overlap in units, and gives you more selection- Mek, 3 Meganobz, 10 boyz + trukk, and deff dred. Not an optimum power selection of units, but it gives you good variety.
Another help is that a lot of the ork specialist units are in rather affordable $25 chunks- nobz, lootas, and stormboy. The Dakkajet is also one of the cheapest fliers to buy.
A painboy is also near essential, especially in a large mob of boyz.
Battlewagons are also the ork heavy tank, and great transports for relatively cheap points

Things to avoid at first-
Gorka/Morkanaut- expensive kit, marginal utility for its points value.
Mek Gunz- good unit, very expensive kit.

You like orks this is the wrong edition to start playing it's heavily dominated by shooting and your vehicles and dreads suffer heavily due to that.

Also the company is evil and you shouldn't give GW your cash unless you support the mass genocide of smurfs, they liquefy them to make fine cast resin but now their numbers are so low they are abandoning resin models.

You don't support mass murder do you?

Thanks for the input so far, a few things to think about

As for smurfs, they were a small price to pay to realise finecast was bad!
