View Full Version : AoS Descriptions = Unit Equipment?

I'm not trying to start a critique of Aos thread, I just need a little help understanding army construction. Picking on my own Skink unit, the description says

A unit of Skinks has 10 or more models.
Some units wield Meteoric Javelins and
carry Star-bucklers. Others loose crackling
projectiles from Boltspitters and either
wield Moonstone Clubs or carry Starbucklers,
while some fight up close with
Moonstone Clubs and Star-bucklers.

So that seems to mean I have to chose one of the following (during army construction, I guess?):

Meteoric Javelins + Star-bucklers
Boltspitters + Moonstone Clubs
Boltspitters + Star-bucklers
Moonstone Clubs + Star-bucklers

So it's possible to field a unit with no melee weapon? I can accept the idea that a unit would not have a missile weapon but no melee weapon?

Thanks in advance for you help!

This was from a GW manager, so according to him a Chaos lord for example had 11 attacks, chaos warriors 6!!!

What he means is that if a model had an axe and a dagger, it could attack with both.

As for a lack of melee weapons, you can shoot while engaged, so you don't actually NEED them.

The guy either misunderstood the question or the rules.

Thanks, guys! I can live with that. It just seemed weird as I read it.

Yeah, the Dragon Slayer doesn't have two hand axes and a great axe, he has [two hand axes] OR [a great axe] according to the unit description.

But yeah, if he somehow did have both then he'd have nine attacks by RAW.

So the thing he misunderstood was the rules and not the question. :D

The Wood Elf Glade Lord rules clearly represent 3 different loadouts based on three available models: a) great weapon and bow, b) spear and sword, c) bow, blade, falcon. So the model you use dictates which weapons it can use. Would be crazy to use all those weapons at the same time on one hero.

But think of the model! He would be going all Gandalf on people!

Well, if you will post incomplete rules…
(Next time, include the part where it specifies what load out options the model has.)

This does seem to open up the possibility of mixed-weapon units though.

More that a "possibility" there, but I don't honestly see a problem with that.

You'd need a mixed armour rule, as with the special Skaven Rat Ogres, but otherwise that seems fine.
