View Full Version : Where can I get the White Dwarf Weekly these days?

Simple question really, and of course I'm not talking about GW hobby stores.

I ask because I noted the other day that not a single newsagent in my area (centre of Berlin) has the WDW. And I've looked in half a dozen big stores; they carry Warhammer: Visions, but explicitly told me that WDW is no longer available through them.

Is that only a regional thing? I'd like to know more, so please include some informations about where you have looked, and whether WDW is sold there (or not). I'd be especially interested whether even some (non-GW) hobby stores stopped selling WDW.

In my experience I had to find a newsagents that would order things in each week if you asked for them. Nowhere around here appear to stock it naturally anymore. Might be worthwhile asking the store clerks if they can order in copies, although you might have to dedicate to buying it every week.

Not available on newstands in the UK. Never been distributed to the news trade since the format change. Specialist hobby shops only for White Dwarf. Visions is available in the news shop.

Extremely odd. Especially now, since GW wants to introduce AoS to a customer base wider than the previous WHF one. WDW should be sold everywhere. :wtf:

Hobby shops only in the UK. I think the aim was to get people into stores on a weekly basis so you can upsell them new releases.

Wait, wasn't the weekly White dwarf reduced in distribution only to gaming stores (GW and some of their resellers) ? I was under the impression that only Vision was still distributed in newsagents, has this changed or did I misunderstood ?

No misunderstanding, that's how it works. You can buy the digital edition, but that's it. I haven't bought a physical copy of WD since they changed it due to the lack of a gamestore that, to my knowledge, carries it within 200 kilometers. I looked into a Visions once that wasn't shrink-wrapped, laughed and put it back, though.

White Dwarf is not for sale anywhere in the uk outside of GW stores and FLGS.

Almost all magazine sales in the UK are through WH Smiths (a big high street retailer) and the big big four supermarket chains.

Visions is avaliable in these locations though.

GW must have decided that they would rather have people going into the GW shops to buy WD, to get extra sales of further products, than have a high street presence and the advertisement that brings.

Probably makes sense from a sales perspective but seems a bit insular.

WD sales must have gone down as a result though.

Not quite true...some craft shops sell them too such as the arts shop in pontypridd where ive been getting the odd issue (although possibly this is because it also sells a small range of minis..but its not what you`d call a gaming store

You can get a subscription now as well but yes only available in GW stores and FLGS.

Didn't their last trading update show that sales from magazines was down? May not have been just magazines, may have been all print media.

I think you have to sell the miniatures to also sell WD.

Yeah, you can. It's twice as expensive per month as the old WD used to be (2 WDWs => 1 old WD) and since I didn't even buy all the monthly ones, I, for one, am not interested in subscribing to WD. There's just not enough content to make it worthwhile. Paying for a catalog is fine once in a while, but not every week.

I think the plan was to have Visions take the place of the old monthly WD in the big shops and the weekly WD to be in the Games Shop to push the weekly release.

Sales of Visions are minimal in the news shops. The same copies sit there from the day they arrive until the next issue replaces it. Why they didn't keep the White Dwarf name for the monthly I don't know as it seems some small newsagents stopped stocking it and they lost a lot of brand awareness.

Depending on what's in it the sales of the weekly seem variable, Things like the Harlequins and Mechanicus seemed to shift quickly, others sit for ever.

I accept this as being both a joke, and what GW actually believes in. It doesn't help in getting "the word out on the street" though - which GW needs, but fails to get done.
