You need to speak to Scavenseer, the queen of all that is tanith, she has advice on every aspect of the tanith army and can also help you with rules for every person mentioned in the book!!

pm with your specific needs.

I use a mixture of tanith metal models, Dark Elf shades, Catachan troops, Cadian troops, Vindicare assassins, Catachan Snipers, Space marine scouts and lots and lots of green stuff!!

Can I just ask...

Scavenseer, are your Tanith wearing black fatigues, which includes a combat jacket as well as trousers?

yes, as well as a custom made poncho/cape in all cases except Hark.

Excellent, carry on! :D

A quick tip Gen. If you dont want to make your own ponchos out of green stuff, the plastic capes in the CW plastic box sets are ideal.

Oooo Out of curiousity while were on the subject, where would you say the best place to find fluff for em' is?

scavenseer

In the magestic works of Dan Abbnett!! You can find a workable points system in chapter approved but you need to develop your own rules and points for those not included.

If anyone wants to use my rules for any characters (i have developed them for every character in the books) I will pm them to you (please state which characters you want).

Fluff -What Scavenseer Said, e.g. The Gaunts' Ghosts series. You have to be careful though, as there are distinct 'periods' to the Tanith 1st, most notably pre- and post-Vervunhive. Read the books, decide what period you want your Tanith to be from, and then get building... :D

scavenseer

Or if you have yet to read the books.

Pre -Verunhive - Titans!!! Scouts a speciality, very limited numbers

Post - Verunhive - Armoured allies, huge numbers, sniper teams, Lijah Cuu...:skull:

Post Traitor General - Small squads of specialists

personally, i think the Honour guard period would be a good period to base an army on. with all the main characters still being around, a plethora of new characters to work with, armoured support, and Cuu has yet to become an insufferable fether!

I'd always thought that a good one to do would be the force that goes to the shrine to save the Beati's bones... I forget which of the books that is. Straight Silver perhaps? You could use 'Hardened Veterans' in a knackered Chimera for the bunch of loonies led by Corbec who follow them to save the day.

Also, you get to use Ayatani Zweil, and he's just comical. :D

that would be "Honour Gaurd". Straight Silver is the one where they do all the fancy rapelling from the planes on Phantine. and there were Loaxatl.

No thats guns of tanith where they do the combat drops onto Orenburg on Phantine. Straight Silver is on Axe Cardinal where they are fighting in trenches and there is the section where Mr Feygor and his platoon end up at the Manse and all Feth breaks loose.

Yep! That is most definitely Straight Silver (which, apparently, no one but me enjoyed).

Actually that would be Guns of Tanith with the Commando Raids... Straight Silver was the Trench War on Aexe Cardinal is actually probably the worst of the series if you don't count the ending to Sabbat Martyr...

oh well thats what I get for taking so long to read the books:eyebrows:

You're right. Honour Guard is the shrineworld one with Zweil and Hark's first appearances, Straight Silver is Aexe Cardinal and the trench warfare (I liked that one...). Guns of Tanith is the Phantine one with the rapelling and the Blood Pact void shield trap.

Ending of Sabbat Martyr... urr... um... what was wrong with it?

I think people dont like it when main characters die......(see chewbaccas death by Salvatore)

BTW i think Straight silver is the third best of the lot (havent read last command) guns of tanith is my favorite due to the Phantine being in it and its the first time you meet the friendly neighbourhood blood pacters!

Sabbat Matyr is a pain with all the psyker feth that goes on in it, i think we could have done with out that crap, but other than that it wasnt too bad.

Ah, pish and tosh, it's war, the main characters will die eventually. Hell, it's past time for Gaunt and co really. I keep expecting them to get blown to shreds by a short round from an Imperial mortar team or something.

I thought the psychic stuff was quite well done actually.

I think it was more the way that he died rather than the fact that he did. Leading a heroic charge or something, sure, but to just die as he did almost pointlessly...thats what I disliked about it. Maybe Abnett's point was that people die in war and not always in heroic ways but this is supposed to be 40k - realism is secondary to heroism. His death just seemed to be, well, lacking. Other than that I quite liked Sabbat Martyr. I think Straight Silver is my least favourite and I actually really like Ghostmaker...although Necropolis is probably 'the best'.

No, he was getting ****ed up by Cuu at the end of the book. It never says he's dead...

He was dead before the start of the book after, and unless he overcame multiple stab wounds to the heart, he died :cries:

Cuu stabbed him in the heart once. After that, it doesn't specify where he stabbed him at.

Anyway...I heard the Bragg died from getting a few tube charges stuffed in his mouth.

The current trend with BL is that they release the last hardback book as a paperback when the next one is about to come out

Gen.Steiner
07-07-2006, 19:38
If I remember rightly, the reason no-one suspects Cuu of murdering Bragg is because Bragg's corpse looks as though he was hit by a Loxatl flechette blaster - somewhat more than seven stab wounds!

The Wounded Wagon people seem to be dying at a prodigious rate, but Dorden and Milo are still alive and kicking.

Ah, suit yersel, but I like the way Abnett kills characters in an offhand manner - that's what happens in wars, even in 40K. Hell, Mikal Dorden gets splashed by a shell in Necropolis, and others are sniped, gunned down, or blown up with random abandon - as it should be.

thats the infaradi (pilgrims) ....urshell....(however its spelled) they arnt blood pact. blood pact wear red armor and red dyed clothing, the infaradi/urshell have green robes.

ps: does anyone els think that infaradi sounds like a terrorist orginization name

I don't mind of the characters dieing, in fact it brings in some reality. It's just that the whole "7 warriors will come and try to assasinate the Beati and only several nameless heroes will valiantly defend her as is told by the prophecy."

That was just plain dumb and sounded more like Brian Jaques than it was to Abnett...

Yes but Milo is kicking around with the beati somewhere. (and knowing her, he is right on the front line next to her......)

i didnt realise this thread was still going???????

Yeah i guess killing off characters does add reality to it as they are at war and they are part of the imperial guard and the survival rate isnt very good. Do we know if this is the last book in the 1st and only series???????? And the infradi do seem to be taken from somewhere else...
@scavenseer: the blood pact turn up in Guns of tanith, as they scare the feth out of everyone as its the first time they are going up against another trained and equipped force not just cultists. I have a feeling that if there is another book in the works that Abbnett is trying to change the main characters around and take the focus away from the original characters and place it other places, done very easily with "traitor General" (btw i havent read "his last command" so this could be totally wrong) as there is a very notable absence of many main characters.
