This may be painfully obvious to everyone but why do BL novels only put some names of things in italics but most others in standard text?

Mind providing an example of this?

Every single iBook I have ever had has italic text randomly for names. I didn't know if it was for something obvious or not.

Ship names and usually those of specific weapons get the italics treatment, but I don't think I've seen character names being in italics yet.

Yes, I think this is so with most Manuals of Style. Also foreign terms (ie. for 40K, any non-Gothic terms).

Again, while we can give a very generic answer, it doesn't help much if we don't have an example to go off.

If you have to ask for examples then i think you fall with me in the 'have not noticed it/ is it done?' camp.

I've never noticed any unusual italics.

Yeah, like DarkChaplain said, only significant names such as those of particular weapons and objects, or ships, or some sq or the like get done in italics. Not names of people or worlds or anything.

I've not noticed italics to be used in any way out of the ordinary (emphasis, and the names of books/ships).
