So, While I play Space Wolves and quite like them, I have for the longest time found myself drawn to the sons of Dorn, The Imperial Fists, and their successors. I'm not sure why, But I quite like them and I'm considering taking the leap and starting a Fists army. But, Are they good? And what units fit thematically with Imperial Fists?

Are they good? Well from a strictly competitive point of view, they don't have the best space marine tactics yet they are quite good imho.

I haven't bought the lastest SM codex as I have stopped 40k and anything related to GW for the time being (thank you AOS) but things haven't changed so much.

Thematically you must have heavy weapons as the fists are siege specialists, a devastator with lascanons should do, and of course a strong unit of terminators lead by none other than lysander, and if you have the points, I think putting him and his friends in a stormraven is a great combo. Centurions are also great if you can bear the sight of those minis (which I can't) and a vindicator would fit nicely if you like such unit.

Other than that, the fists are codex marines, so half a company would do in order to have most of your army scoring. Imperial fists wage war like other marines but they like to have heavy firepower and really tough units able to withstand quite a lot of damage.

Fists do work with the lords of terra, therefore an assassin would also fit, like a culexus if you want to just shut enemy psychic powers down.

Are you thinking of starting for 40k or 30k?

As stated above by Vlad they don't have the best CT but it's not a bad one especially if you play to it with plenty of bolter fire to reroll and you can even use sentinels of terra supplement which allows you to reroll all failed to hit bolter shots within 12" in stead of just 1s.

All units fit the theme of Imperial Fists - they're a Codex Chapter.

Nonsense. In the Internet age, over simplification of armies is mandatory! That's why World Eater army is nothing but berserkers and a Chaos Lord with mark of Khorne!
