Well after a brilliant deal with Fishy from 40konline.com I've been able to mix my old loyalists with these new chaos parts to form the Night Lord army I have always been intrested in.

Here are the pics of my army. No HQ atm, I'm looking into it... ;)

Troops

Chaos Marines
7 marines with bolters and 2 melta guns
Aspring champion with Powerfist and bolt pistol

Now, if I can find a plastic suitable paint stripper I shall strip as much as I can, but I wanted to make them to see what I could get from the army first.

I'd also like to note that I started to run out of chaotic heads, which is why there are a few standard marine ones around. But I tried to put them on the mostly chaos models. Plus a 7 foot marine is still a very scary thing to face!! ;)

Then there was the removing of all of the khorn signs on the chaos, and the removal of any double eagles and purity seals on the marines. All part of the fun though :)

Thanks for looking

simple green can be bought in most DIY stores like home depot and lowes, 4 liters will set you back $9 USDas soon as you pour it on minis the colors already start to weaken. It's good stuff. Keep up the blog as i have NL army too.

Unfortunately (well...) I live in the UK, so no simple green for me. I think the closest I can get is Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid, but that is quite hazadous and expensive...

Mr Muscel my work, i'm trying ATM with the Bathroom Stuff, though the oven version is apparently better.

Cool, thanks guys.

Now onto the HQ.

I shall be needing 2 figures, one very scarly looking Lord (who will have a jump pack) with twin claws, and a less scary luitennant with a sword (who will also have a jump pack)

I have 4 more jump packs left if needed.

I was thinking either shrike or the raptor leader for the lord, and converting the luitennant from parts I have.

What do you think?

Brake Fluid is not that hazerdous  and if you go to a automotive store, a quart of it is fairly cheap, like 5.00 here in the US. plus the Brake fluid dont evaporate.

Easy Off oven Cleaner yellow can, brand name only

both things work for plastics. Deadley has found another oven cleaner there in the UK that works on FW resin as well. which should work on GW plastics (always test some sprue first)

They're beautiful! Don't strip them silly, leave them as they are! What's more scary than that?

use methylated spirits the clear stuff
put it in a lidded jar leave over night
i have never had a prob with plastic but ya might wanna test it
use gloves when ya scrub it or your hands dry out
and dont drink it

breakfluid works fine for me, dot 4 from halfords works well on plastics and metals, just make sure you work outside or in a well ventelated area and wear gloves

and

and dont drink it

i think thats a great guideline:p

personally for your commander model id use this chaplin:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060101252&orignav=10

with right lightning claw from this model:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060102096&orignav=10

and this model:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060102026&orignav=10

and id use the helmet wings from ths model to ad to the helmet of your choice:

http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060102082&orignav=10

some filing would be needed on the chaplain body to remove imperial symbols, and a gree stuff cast could be used to add the night lords insignia to chest/ shoulder pad. it may also be a good idea to use a raptors jet pack to fit in with the rest of the army

Dont use meths on plastic!! I found it softens the plastic, and the glue comes out as well, so it falls apart, did with me anyway, my marine bike melted, had fun warping it into cool positions though, but not very useful since it was ruined.

Hmm... I've just soaked a few plastic models for 6 hours and they did nothing bad to them... I have just put 2 squads in there for a few (say 4) hours this evening...

*checks models for softness*

No problems with the meths at all.

I spent all of yesterday stripping them. This morning I went to spray them black and all of the 3 spray cans I have were empty. Luckily I managed to get 11 models sprayed before they finally gave out.

So, here are the raptors and the aspring champions with the basecoat of blue on them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Jonik/DSCN2197.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Jonik/DSCN2192.jpg

I don't know why, but my camera always seems to make the models look worse than they are. the blue is perfectly flat looking in real life, along with being darker than the flash has made it out to be...

Also, the paint was incredibly thinned down. I don't know why it looks thick in the pictures.

As for the lord and luitennant, the parts I shall be using for the luitennant are currently soaking in meths. And I bought a raptor aspring champion off ebay yesterday who shall be the base of the lord.

I shall also keep you updated with the painting of the raptors and ACs. On a related matter, what colour should I paint the marine jumppacks? I was thinking black.

Thanks

How far away were you when you too the pics? And did you edit the pics on your pc at all to sort out the contrast/brightness/white balance. That's part of the reason pics of mini's sometimes struggle to look like what's in front of you.

If it makes you feel any better most people I know (myself included - I know me.) have unending difficulty taking photos of NL. But I am concerned some of that blue may be a bit too thin.

Still, good work, and keep them coming.

There was no zoom used. The problem might be bacause it was getting dark so it was only artificial light from the celing and the flash lighting them...

As for too thin paint, there will be a dark wash going on next followed by about 2 highlight layers, then lightning. So there shouldn't be much of a problem with thinness.

Update time!

Here's my first attempts at lightning. I should be a pro by the time the army is finished.

And yes, the [his right] shoulder pad is going to get redone. I started with it pointing the wrong direction and tried to salvage...

Ok several things today:

The Luitennant model. He's not the most threatening looking, but then again he's a chaos marine, and all scaryness that goes with it. And with a handful of high WS, S6 power weapon attacks with his movement... I'd be scared...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Jonik/DSCN2215.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/Jonik/DSCN2216.jpg

Next is the Lord's base. I wanted something for his base, and I have many many many of these pillars... So I had a bit of fun with a hacksaw and a hammer.... The plan is to have a piece of wire coming from the pillar into just under the jetpack, but I can;t find my (thick) wire clippers.

And next is 2 more of the ACs, the 4th I'm not sure what to do with, so he'll be done at a later date. I think my lightning is getting better already
