View Full Version : Armageddon's Imperial Guard Project

14-07-2006, 21:54

My project began 3 months ago. I definitely stop to Imperial Guard Steel legion Minis. I really like those gaz mask and vests but not having lot of chimeras. So, I create a regiment (I've don't choose the number) who have some differents with the basic mecanised Regiment of Armageddon. The background of my regiment is that it was seperate of the planetary defense troops after the second defeat of Ghasghull Uruk Tracka (sorry). This Regiment bring the light of the Emperor at the devastated worlds around Armageddon. The compagnies was totally mechanised, but after some fights, he's being specialized in the shape of a combat coupling, infantery, mechanised infantery, and groups of tanks for a single purpose : versatility. But the shape of combat remained overall the same one as in the plains of Armageddon, so made up of many fast attacks coupled to tactical raids of The Navy.
This veteran regiment left their native planet with the heart filled with hatred. The catastrophe of Armageddon was'nt to reproduce any more in their eyes, all that is green or which has large ears passes under the caterpillars or the wind of a flamethrower.

My list :

Favourite heavy wepon : missile launcher
Favourite assault weapon : plasma rifle

Damn, I have to get my hands on some of those guys. I always loved the Armageddon Death Corp. Looking good so far man. And the colour sceem looks cool. Let me add, that Panzer Division decals are sold in lots of hobby shops, and I think that it would be gread addition on the tanks.

Good idea, but there is just the tank's number what kind of other decals would you add ?

ps: The vest of the two soldiers aren't finished (no "light")

Lots of decals. I.G. aren't space marines. They use a lot of iconography and trophys and stuff. The Panzer Divisions used simmilar things. Check these out:

German Markings:

German Panzer Divisions:

German Tiger Divisions:

Checke here, it's an online store where you can order these and much more decals from WWII till modern day.

These are not transfers on paper that you dip them in water and transfer them on the model. These are stincils, that allow you to paint over them and create the wanted mark on the model.

Trés bien!

I like the scheme, it blends in well without being dull.

Trés bien!

Très ;)

Thank You, because I'm not a very good painter and that give me courage for the future.

17-07-2006, 00:14
i really like the way these are coming on, i might paint the 10 steel legions i havent painted yet this way as its a nice colour scheme and looks very WWII which is cool :D
Edit: what is "mélange plus claire"?

17-07-2006, 01:48
I think about the future camo of the Chimera, and I believe that a simple camouflage like this could be perfect :

Because :
-it's simple to do, I have just to put my hand on a TAMIYA XF63 grey panzer.

-I don't know why but I don't like the Panther's camo on the Chimera.
-To finish, I think without airbrush it will be hard to made something nice.

A little update.

The heavy bolter team is almost finished.

[EDIT] "Highlightings" of catachan green aren't made.

I very much like the colours you have chosen. The army has a very real look to it, because the colors are not too bright. I look forward to seeing a finished squad, aswell as your tank.

Its coming on nicly, im struggeling to come up with a decent camo scheme for my new IG, so I know how annoying it can be.

green/brown is nice and realistic, with the unit markings adding some brighter colours, nice work.

26-07-2006, 13:39
Mate, they are looking great. Keep them coming!

It inspiring to see a guard army on the rise, it makes me want to build my vostroyans and send them off to serve on armageddon as a new influx of troops (possibly what ill do when i eventually get round to doing them).

THANKS for the comments ;)

Stormtrooper. I am thinking about color, but I believe that I will keep the same color (vest in catachan, armor dark grey...)

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5656/dscf0987ns8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Melta ? hmmmmmm

I've got seven models (three gatlings, two veterans - one with handgun)

Heavy bolter team finished, but I don't have 'brazen brass' for bolts, I have to wait.

Batbat, hop, now, sergent and grenade launcher.

29-07-2006, 13:24
Yesterday, I discover that they (http://www.e-ludik.com/product_info.php?products_id=897) can be awesome in Stormtrooper, no ? (with canon of melta for two soldiers)
I think that isn't hard to sell my actual stormtrooper.

Comments ?

Heh, long time since ive posted here.

So far, I love your project. (thinking about doing something steel legion like someday) But, I'm wondering if those models would fit in with the rest of the troops.

Fast update :

http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/272/dscf1062pi5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Sun... Mountains... Sea... Warhammer.... "Côte D'azur" Girls...

Mmhhh so,my WIP chimera, with twin HB and HB/HF. As you can see I'm slow but, there is a result.
I already prepare the transfers, but I have to finish the highlightings of the dark grey and some other details.
I think that I will use the cadian tank officer with GS gaz-mask, with black uniform placed in the open turret.
Bases has been redone in graveyard earth.

A bientôt !

Batbat, 56K....

looking good keep it up

21-08-2006, 14:21
I love the Steel Legion range, and you've done a very nice job on these. Very realistic.

21-08-2006, 14:22
Yeah, love the h.Bolter model,

21-08-2006, 14:31
Hmm perhaps you should try to get miniatures from Darkson Designs (http://darksondesigns.com/shopae.html) if you want a more WWII look. They are metal multipart models so you might have some more conversion options for them:)

22-08-2006, 18:17

Why not, I will see that. For example german's handgranates are interesting for me.
Look :
http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/6264/img014hc6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Is this correct if I say that my guards use Orks grenades ?
But I think that there is'nt only one model of grenade in the Imperium....

22-08-2006, 18:27
yeah, would be cool to see one, though i would shrink it since you don't want typsy guardsmen

22-08-2006, 19:17
-=B@toun3T=-, i believe the said gernades in the picture you posted are, in fact, ork stikk bombs, but would work well as Steel Legion gernades. a short brass rod with some greenstuff would work wonders.

23-08-2006, 12:32
a short brass rod with some greenstuff would work wonders.

Yep, I think that is the best solution, because Ork's grenades will be hard to shrink, I think.
I'm not a specialist for sculpting GS, but I believe that isn't hard to make.

Little update :

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4394/dscf0013ui2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

My camera isn't recent so I made a better photo. I really like the gloss varnish, it's simple and realistic no ?
I will do a chimera's crew, his future uniform will be.... black with red's details (not pink :p ) Don't look at the highlightings, they will be improved.

Batbat, bye bye.

Handgranate :

From Space Marine's scope !!!
This is the right scale.

30-08-2006, 20:42
These are really cool, but for some reason the color scheme doesn't feel 'right'.

I was actually going to get some of these to make my stormtrooper squad. IS it only available through direct order/online or do they still sell them at stores.

30-08-2006, 21:05
very nice.. love the grenade Idea! Never thought about using a scope :D

31-08-2006, 00:15
These are really cool, but for some reason the color scheme doesn't feel 'right'.

Explain, what is the problem that you seeing ?

I was actually going to get some of these to make my stormtrooper squad. IS it only available through direct order/online or do they still sell them at stores.

There is perhaps differents between countries but I think that you will have to buy them throught online store. The boxes aren't produced anymore.

Never thought about using a scope

It's pure chance, I was looking at my bitz box without thnik about my future grenades and I see SM's scope and "hey, that's resemble a lot with stiehlgranaten !"

03-09-2006, 17:39
They feel like swampy, and I've always imagined Armageddon being an Orky desert world.

And the chimera is about 90% finished. (mmh... that take time)

04-09-2006, 19:56
i dolike that conversion, might it be a good idea to GS in the plasma ripples, you know, just behind where you've pu the plastic conversion on.
good job, though, and i hear you on the not being a good sculptor :(

04-09-2006, 20:15
it be a good idea to GS in the plasma ripples

It's the photo, the ripples are filed :)
