Hey guys, I am making this Log so I can not only be motivated to paint my army, but also get input from you guys on how to improve my painting. So this is the rundown, I have 2,500 points of Hordes of Chaos I want to paint, with a slaanesh flavoring to them.

Okay, the army consists of this...

Characters

Exalted Sorcerer of Slaanesh- "Angel of Death"
Spell Familiar, Gaze of the Gods, Steed of Slaanesh,
Level 4 Sorcerer, Slaanesh Lore
380 points

Chaos Sorcerer of Slaanesh
Power Familiar, Level 2 Sorcerer, Slaanesh Lore
190 points

Chaos Sorcerer of the Shadows
Power Stone, Level 2 Sorcerer, Shadow Lore
145 points

Core

Chosen Warriors of Slaanesh x18
Extra Hand Weapons, Shields, Full Command, Rapturous Standard
532 points

Warriors of Slaanesh x18
Shields, Full Command
320 points

Marauders of Slaanesh's Bidding x20
Shields, Full Command, Flails
185 points

Marauders of Slaanesh's Bidding x12
Shields, Full Command, Great Weapons
133 points

Marauder Horsemen x5
Musician, Standard Bearer, Flails, Shields
103 points

Chariot of Slaanesh
130 points

Special

Furies x10
150 points

Rare

Chaos Giant
Mutant Monstrosity
225 points

2,500 points

So thus far I have only started painting the warriors of slaanesh, because I wanted to settle on a color scheme before I painted anything else. So for right now, my schedule is to paint a unit, then an independant thing (character, giant, chariot, ect.) The last thing I paint is going to be the chosen, who I want each one to look like is from a different part of the north, and I want to spend alot of time on each one, looking like "kings" of thier sector. Since Chosen are the best of the best, I want each one to look individual, the maneaters from the ogres came to mind, but not as drastic. For example I need to find a unifying color (purple) that would tie them all together, but one from the far north would be black armor with like "spirits" in it, while one from a lower section would be white to bled in with the camoflauge. I want to save them for last so I can spend the most time.

So here is a picture of my so far done warriors of slaanesh, only the front row is done, the second is about 3/4 done, and the back is just primed. How do you guys think they look?

Those look really good, although the picture is slightly blurry. The armour looks like it could maybe do with slightly more highlighting, but again that could just be the photo. Good to see a Slaaneshi army that doesn't involve pale 'Candyfloss Pink' for once!

When will we be seeing more? Planning any conversions?

Funny story behind that, I took like 10 pictures of these guys, all of them were dark, so I took my left hand and was pinning my light against a wall on the right side while my right hand took a picture of the unit on the left. I felt like I was playing twister. Anyway, I hopefully will get this second rank done tomorrow, and finish the last rank by tuesday. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks for the words of encouragement...

Hmmm, they are pretty nice. But I would like to see the armour get a thick coat of gloss varnish to bring that colour through a little more.

Loving how well the skull mask looks in that purple.

You know, I didnt think about varnishing them. I may in the long run. I was originally gonna paint the skull like a whitish color to look like a bone, but decided the purple was the way to go. I have only worked on 2 of the models because of the City (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42511) we are trying to complete. I was painting the boots of the warriors, and everything felt so futile, so I put them down and made a rough sketch of the city. I'll post the squad once I am done with them!

Seriously, get some gloss on there and those purples will transform. Ultra sharp glistening highlights and the deepest darkest abyssal shading. I love gloss varnish :D

Alright, I was kind of busy building my city (look at my sig for the city) and probably will continue that project through the week. However I am so close to finishing my second rank and about half way done so I had to post them. Its not as good of a photo as the first one, but for those interested, here they are...

So hopefully they will done by the end of the week, then I will start my giant!

Well I really hope you get into it and start painting again! I'm undecided (or should that be undivided?) as to doing Slaanesh or Wood Elves for my Fantasy army (don't ask) and was looking to you for inspiration :D

I started painting again today, I have very little left, I will post them when Im done. Next thing I do is my Pain Seeker (my giant). I had this awesome idea, since mutant monstrosity gives him scaley skin save, I thought (after reading an awesome story about an inquisitor going slaanesh) he could inflict pain on himself to be more resistant to pain. So I am gonna model whip markings on his back with greenstuff, add blood to the arrows in him, maybe even throw a cannonball into his chest, and the final piece will be the most amazing hopefully... On his head, there will be a mark of slaanesh carved by knife... Hopefully I will get this army done before winter. My work on this quick musical probably has landed me a job at the school's spring musical! :D I will keep you guys updated...

Any suggestions, thoughts, etc.?

OK, a few points:

The warriors are still looking great, but until the base is done a model is only half complete.
I like the scarring on the giant, but I'm wondering if it might look even better with red in the cracks - make it look more painful and irritated.
The giant definitely needs some purple on him to tie him in with the warriors.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this army.

Looks like a solid WIP giant. the mold lines are something to pay attention to though, they ruin a model

I finished my giant last night, (stayed up till 1 am) and I think he looks awesome. I have to do some stuff before I can even go downstairs and take a picture of him. Now let me answer some questions...

I dont base my models until the army is done. I do this so I make sure every base fits together.
There is blood on the giant now (woo). He looks pissed!
I am proud to say the giant has purple... Today I am doing the last detail, adding "Pain Seeker" onto his cloth

It depends what you mean by mold lines, if you mean the greenstuff I added, I did that for a reason. If you ever have seen pictures of people being whipped, the skin raises alittle bit around the wound. I'll take pictures in a little bit and post them soon.

Thanks for the constructive criticism!

So today I am going to paint up some maruaders! It'll probably take a week, but I'll keep you posted. So far, what do you think of the pain seeker?

I really like the warriors, the purple makes such a change from the typical Slaanesh colours you see aboout - especially as the whole armou ris purple rather than just sections of armour.

The giant is ok, although it looks like he has a very deep tan!

What Frans meant by moould lines isnt the scars but the lines of plastic formed when some squeezes between the two halves of the moould during casting. These are very unsightly and always spoil the look of a finished mini - no matter the quality of the paint job in my opinion. I picked out the two obvious mould lines in one picture of the giant so you can see what I mean:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/richard_milson/MouldLineGiant.jpg
The offending mould lines are these two thin raised lines running down the arms - and I can see a number in some of the other pictures.

They can be easilly solved by just scraping gently down them with a knife blade or by filing/sanding them down. They get very hard to rectify once paint is applied. Did you remove these from the warriors or leave them as well (there arent any close shots of the warriors to tell).

Keep at it, looking pretty good other than the mould lines :)
Rich

Wow, they are more obvious in the picture than in real life. You know, I dont know about the warriors, cause I didnt actually put them together. I had 2 friends over to help me assemble them... we got 2,500 poitns done in 2.5 hours. Hmmm, thanks for the pointers. If I ever get the heart to do it I may file that down...

That was my thought, the fact that chaos has always been darker skin, so I decided to make him darker...

The fact that Chaos has always been darker skin

They have? I always liked a more Human look, but now I make their skin pale and chalky for my Chaos Marines. Ah well. Nice work there, and yeah, the giant has got mouldlines, quite a few actually. Rich123 pointed them out really well. Nice work though, I'll be following this thread. Keep up the good work. :)

Well not the mortals, but I like it that the big behemouth is darker from the taint of chaos! When I get around to spraying the marauders I'll start them... ;)

Due to the fact I have to speed paint some eldar for a medusa V RTT means the closest day I can spend time on the marauders would be sunday, Im gonna post a thread in the painting section on how the army looks...
Thanks for your support guys, its keeping me goign through this project!

I just wanted to tell you all this....

I started painting again after my feight of not painting because of the speedpainted eldar. Anyway, I finished 5 marauders complete with symbolic tattoos that are suprisingly interlinking ancient religion and slaanesh, I'll describe it when I post the unit.
