Alright, so for my Clan Moulder themed army I'm planning to use the plastic Plaguemonk models to count as basic clanrats (I like the robes) But there's a problem; there are no shields for them. I have 8 beastmen (Gor) shields lying around, and I was thinking if I just gave the front rank a shield for each unit of Plaguemonks, would that be ok?

Like- If each of my clanrat units just had shields on their front rank (and none shields for the other 3 ranks) would that be alright? Or would I get in trouble for that?

Thanks

I seriously wonder if anyone would even notice that the other ranks didn't have shields. It would only be an issue if you changed formation.

I think, technically, the normal requirement is for the majority of models in the unit to show the upgrade (though, as memory serves, shields are standard for rats). However, as long as you make sure your opponent knows in advance, it's not really a problem in my opinion.

At the same time, it wouldn't be that hard just to bitz order the shields....

A suggestion...........after using the plastic shields you have, make more out of thin cardboard. You can use a plastic shield as a templet. Fill a sheet of thin cardboard with shield shapes. Sharp scissors will cut them out. Um, they do not HAVE to be round.

A writing tablet or small note pad should have a thin cardboard back. OR check at a scapebook supply store, a craft's store.

Only the front rank of my Chaos Dwarf Warrior units hold shields, I just have to tell my opponent that they are using them, and I get no more reaction than a nod, I say go for it, shouldnt be any problem.

Nice, Gitt. Glad to see it can work without problems. I personally hate ranking units with shields due to space issues, particularly with Skaven's 20mm bases.

You can always attach the shields on the back of some of the models.

As long as you keep all the models in your forward formation with sheilds, and only pick off your non-sheilded units as casualties you should be fine. As long as the sheilded models are the last to go I dont see any problems

Make sure they all only have 1 hand weapon but I really can't believe that you can't get hold of any shields.

If you have any mates who play, ask them if you could nick some of their spare shields, dwarfs get thousands of spares (though they look dwarfy just scratch them up and say they were looted) and the little old plastic round ones I sometimes find in my bed  Other skaven players will have extras.

Personally I'd prefer just odering the shield sprue from workshop.

If you could spare a fiver (well, 6.25) it would make the unit look a lot better and using all the different shields makes them more interesting to paint and ery skaveny (they obviously nick their shields).

Plus if you have stormvermin their uniformity would stick out a lot more.

Alternatively.. just get some craft sticks (popsicle sticks) and glue a couple side by side and hack to shape. Honestly it's like a penny for 15 shields that way. AND you get shields of all different sizes and shapes...
