View Full Version : Can anyone identify where these Steel Legion Figures came from?

Hey WarSeer,

On eBay I recently acquired a few Steel Legion models (yes my shame of buying more models has already been logged on the Painting Support Group).

Two of them are in a pose I have never seen before (in either websites or catalogues), so I was wondering if anyone has an idea on when or why they were produced?

They are the fist two models of the five pictured (sorry for the quality of the picture, only had the eBay scan here at work).

***Edit Image used to be here, but I am deleting it to make room in my photobucket account...that and as a former programmer I hate dead links.

Thanks to everyone who contributed, although it is obvious that many people did not read the previous replies. ;) ***

The models are crouching, holding the lasgun in the left arm and the right hand is in a pouch on the belt. Model has Steel Legion on the tab and other than the forehead being larger than the other troops in the range and a slightly smaller canteen it looks exactly like the other Steel Legion models.

They are also not conversions of another model (each is a single casting), unless they were a conversion that was later made into a mould.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Captain Brown

Aren't they part of a heavy weapons team?

Hard to say due to the pic quality, but I just went through the 2004-05 Catalog and none of the Steel Legion models, including heavy weapons teams resemble that pose even slightly. The closest is the lascannon spotter whose rifle is slung across his back. Might be a limited run model?

There haven't been any limited edition Steel Legionaires as far as I know.

Anyway, get back to the painting table Cpt.Brown! :p

I think I've got some of them. The only steel legion I bought was the army deal released before the Armageddon campaign.Don't know why they're not in a catalogue though. As for ltd edition Steel Legion the only one I recall was the commissar with the face mask.

Which were not limited at all, in fact.

Never seen those poses before though. I'll try to go through my friend's collection of Steel Legionnaires and see if I find something even vaguely similar.

So far no one has any ideas. I have seen them before on ebay, but all the sellers have had no idea where they came from either.

I think they may have been a test model that was not released, but a mould was made and they may have been sold or given away at a Roadshow or the like.

Necromunda snipers. One of the left overs from the steel legion range released through specialist games. Apparently no longer available through the website.

I think I've got at least one of those, myself...... it would have been in the boxed army deal, as Fulgrim's Gimp said. I've never seen one of them in any other Steel Legion set or blister, but I'm all but certain that I have at least one of that pose.

The gas mask converted Steel Legion comissar was/is mail order only. I don't think it's on the webstore either.

The three in the back are standard out of the Steel Legion Squad box set. Not sure, but I think the crouching ones were from the Steel Legion blisters.

T-tauri is right, he was call a Necromunda Sniper. I picked one up when I was putting together my Steel Legion Army. Not a great figure compared to the rest of the range, but it is cool to have something different.

And sniper is the magic word.

It is. Steel Legion Commissar, freely to order. One of the best Commissar models if I may say it myself.

Is the steel legion set still being produced or has it hit the OOp trail?

I got one in a steel legion box set. He's just a guardsman as I recall.

Is the steel legion set still being produced or has it hit the OOp trail?I was told about 6 months ago that they were OOP, but I just looked on the GW site a half hour ago and they still sell the box set, so...

Sorry to go off-topic, but what does OOP (out-of-production, I presume) really mean for GW?

Just that the models are taken out of the stores (only available through mail order or online), or the additional break up of boxes, so you can only purchase them individually? Only because I experienced to be able to order nearly any piece with a valid product-ID...

Sorry to go off-topic, but what does OOP (out-of-production, I presume) really mean for GW?

It varies quite a bit from just being available on mail order, to specially cast figures (I don't think they do this anymore) all the way down to the moulds are no longer usuable and the figure can no longer be cast.

For most though I'd expect they are not a stock holding item so are no longer part of regular production runs just once off's to replenish the small amount of stock being held for them.

I was going to say, there is one model that has that top half (hand in pouch, lasgun held to chest), but that one is standing. Does the bottom half match the lower half of any of the weapon models? If so, that's where the model came from, a mix of heavy weapon crew and basic trooper. But the pose of the arms look a lot like this trooper (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=9947010514809&orignav=10). So I'm guessing the bottom half matches up to something too.
