Evening

In response to popular request, the first RPG on WarSeer from the Antaeus foundries is an Imperial Guard one. A group of hand-picked specialists from a number of different regiments are to be dropped deep in enemy territory on the world of Praethyus, which has been invaded by the archenemy. You have been told that your mission is to reach an Imperial Temple situated deep in enemy-held territory, and cleanse this sacred site, recovering any artifacts that have not been defiled by the enemy. There is thick jungle terrain, so you may wish to consider this when equipping.

Positions available:
0-1 Techpriest Enginseer
0-1 Commissar
0-1 Sergeant
Trooper
Storm Trooper
0-2 Sniper
Medic
Demolitions expert
1+ Driver

Armoury:

Name: Verus Nefero
Regiment: Armageddon Steel Legion
Rank: Sergeant
Equipment: Chainsword, Lasgun (3 spare ammo packs), Flak Armour, 2 Frag grenades, 1 Krak grenade, Mk VII Gas Mask (not on the armoury list, but it's standard for a Steel Legionaire)

Appearence: Is tall, and fairly well built. Has brown hair, and grey eyes, although you won't see his face behind his Mk VII regualtion Gas Mask..when he has it on that is. Has a long knee-length greatcoat.

Background: Trained mostly to fight in the Ash wastes of his home planet, Verus has undergone some traing in the equatorial jungles that lie between Armageddon Secondus and Prime. Is deserving of his rank, and is perhaps on his way up the ladder of command. He will always try to make sure his men survive. Is a good shot with his Lasgun, and is not bad with a chainsword.

Is that o.k?

Name: Sophie

Rank/Position: Storm Trooper

Regiment: Takahashi Bloodhawks

Equipment: Twin Mars-Pattern Hellpistols (5 appropriate power packs), Katana (short sword), Carapace Armour, Frag Grenades, Krak Grenades, Auspex, associated Imperial Guard standard equipment (survival kit, emergency field rations etc.)

Appearance: Raven haired with green eyes and a suggestive smile, Sophie doesn't mind using her status as a woman to get her way. Clad in blood red Carapace Armour and famed for her unconventional armament of twin Hellpistols.

Background: Sophie was born on the Hive world of Takahashi Prime. Being born of relative nobility, she was inducted to the Takahashi Bloodhawks regiment, famed for their daring lightning raids and making extensive use of both Grav-chute drops and Valkyrie deployment. Sophie quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant and with that status adopted her twin-pistol style, preferring the increased finesse over a bulky Hellgun. In keeping with her homeworld's traditions, she also prefers the Katana as her close combat weapon of choice and carries hers around as sole link to her family. After a falling out of sorts, Sophie dropped her name and took on her current alias, severing all other ties with her family (aside from the aforementioned Katana she carries). Since then Sophie has concentrated solely on her duties to the Imperium, managing in doing so to have come to the attention of certain authorities on more than one occasion.

Name: Altan Belisan
Rank: released trooper from the 22nd "Blax's Rats" Penal Legion
Description: Altan is a mountain of a man. 6'4", 250 lbs of rock hard prison toned muscle, few dare to look twice at Altan. He has dark, sun-tanned skin, is totally bald (shaved), and constantly wears dark form fitting goggles so that no one can see which way he's looking (think welding/swimming goggles almost). The goggles have built in light amplification systems, as well as flash supressors, so stun grenades and the like do not affect him. No one quite knows where he aquired such a choice piece of tech, but few have decided to ask. Altan has a tight, white sleeveless muscle shirt, dark fatigue pants, big ole boots, and a pouched bandoliere for his effects. He also has various ganger and prison tatoos up and down his arms, including a noteable rat skull and XXII indicating his involvement with Blax's Rats.

History: Altan was originally inducted into the Blax's Rats legion after fragging his CO. There really was no doubt who did it, Altan has a flair for explosives, and cogitators estimate that the Lieutennant's Chimera had been rigged with roughly 750 Imperial kilos of high grade plastique. All they found of the ill-fated man was his helmet, roughly a kilometer and a half away. Altan never admitted or denied his involvement.

Altan is your classic street thug. Razor smart in a fight, instinctive, brawny, he's the perfect hired muscle for whatever dirty deeds you need done. He is totally amoral. Need someone introduced to their own insides? He'll take care of it. Altan lives for intimidation and confrontation, although if and when he befriends someone there is not a better man you want guarding your back. He is a born leader, although if you can't match his pace don't bother trying to keep up.

Altan is, however, a compulsive thief and looter. He just can't help himself.

Wargear: 12" monomolecular combat knife, belt fed autogun, extra ammo, demo charges, grenades, anything he can loot.

Name: Trooper Jax 'Daredevil' Otega
Rank: Driver/Trooper
Regiment: 523rd Helikon Regiment 'Darksoldiers'

Regiment History: The 523rd was made up from over a thousand gangers that were rounded up and pressed into service for a Grand Crusade, unfortunately the Crusade met with a failure, leaving the regiment below numbers. Instead of being press into another Regiment, the Colonel of the Regiment requested that it be allowed to fight until it was dead, as was the tradiation of the gangs on Helikon Prime, the Main Hive on the Hiveworld. The request was granted and through thick and thin, the regiment became a crack unit of suirvors that recruits only when the numbers are below thirty-nine percent.

Appearance: Jax is a bear of man, standing at 6'1 and weighing in at 230 pounds, mostly muscle. He has brown eyes and short black hair, that matches his skin complexion of black in colour. He has a ganger tatoo of the Grim Reaper on his left arm that has underneath it: 'Death before Dishonour'

Background: Jax is one of the original Darksoldiers and is adept in steath and light armour as is the nature of his regiment. They use silent tactics to make surgical strikes and rely on light infratny skills to do this. Hailing from a position as a sludgetruck driver for his gang, Jax was recruited and given the role of driving a Chimera, for when speed was needed, but was also trained as a normal trooper for when he would have to ditch his CHimera and join the ground troops in an assault. Even though his big, he can still squeeze into a Chimera driver seat as he has learned how to shift his weight about. Although Chimeras are his specialty, he can aslo drive trucks, Salamanders, motorbikes and even a Rhino, but prefers the Chimera for its versitility and usually takes the mult-laser/heavy bolter combomination.

Weapons: Standard issue autogun (it makes more noise :D), 10x ammo clips, usually on his chest, a stolen Officer's rapier (looted from a dead corpse), frag grenades and spanners and wrenches for when the Chimera needs some 'extra loving.'

Note: Antaues, can he have this special skill: 'Extra Loving'- Jax has been driving Chimeras for over thirty years and knows the ins and outs of them like an Eginseer, its just he does not know how to properly maintain them. Instead he nags them with his wrenches and spanners, and tweaks them there and there until they start moving again. Can attempt a field repair if need be, but usually requires a little luck and a quick prayer to the Machine Spirit.

And I will be driving a Chimera right?

Takeshi Kodjiro

Sniper and stealth expert

A young man, with flowing white hair and depthless grey eyes. Talks very little and is not very receptive to friendly chit chat. No one knows where he's from or what regiment he was in. He'll follow orders from his superiors with no questions asked, whatever it might be he's asked to do.
Lean of build, a deadly close combat expert, not through strength but martial skill. His specialty however is stealth and assassination, and excells in the dark of night.
He wears black and grey combat fatigues and standard flak armour, which are covered by a black cloak and hood.
His equipment consists of:
Long las with regular and infrared scope, flash suppressor and silencer (can all be attached seperately). 3 10 shot hotshot clips, 5 standard 15 shot ammo clips. He carries the sniper rifle on his back.
2 autopistols, with attachable sound suppressors, 10 8 bullet clips. His twin pistols are carried in holsters under his arms.
2 short katana like blades at his sides which he usually draws with the tip of the blades pointing down.
5 frag and 3 krak grenades.

The concept behind the character is that he was one of the few survivors of an Aphrael strain regiment. After his regiment had been badly mauled in a Dark Eldar raid, the survivors had been taken prisoner by the foul xenos. Luckily the Dark Eldar ship in which he was carried was intercepted by the Ordo xenos before they could make their way into the webway.

I hope this character isn't too over the top and if you're okay with him being Aphrael Strain.

I put 0-1 Sergeants for a reason..but never mind :p

@Yin: Actually, that still leaves you in charge. I always viewed Commissars as being ranked 'outside' the normal hierarchy - he's there to keep you in order, but you give the actual orders :)

So, we have...

Sergeant Nefero (Yin Yang)
Sergeant Quinne (diddimz)
Commissar Vorn (warlord grubnatz)
Trooper 'Sophie' (Kittah) - I assume she has a second name?
Trooper Beslan (tyranid05)
Trooper Otega (Slazton)
Trooper Kodjiro (hoshi No Koe)

Excellence. Still slots open if people want to join in.

@Slaz: There will be a variety of vehicles available at various points.

Appearance and background are up. I may tweak them slightly, but that's the basics as you need to know.

As for the name, she just goes by Sophie for a reason - her character may open up over time depending on how close this mission brings the team :p

After some looking around, here be the Enginseer.

Name: Edinte Resarc
Regiment:Skitarii(sp?)
Position:Enginseer(You didn't expect that, did you?)
Equipment:
-Standard:Servo-arm, Power Weapon, Cyber-Enhancement, Chem-Inhaler.
-Extra:Flamer with 3 spare fuel cells, Auspex, Bionics,(If allowed:Combat Servitor to clear path through jungle.)

Appearance: He is mostly concealed by his Chem-Inhaler and Bionics. The Bionics cover his entire body, leaving only one 'real' eye visible to others. Thanks to all mechanical additions, he stands a healthy 6'3. Over that suit, he wears the standard red cloak with a hole in the back, making room for his Servo-Arm. The arm itself ends in a three-pronged claw, and for ease, the Flamer is attached to it too.

Background: Resarc has been raised in the art of machinery since early childhood by his father who was a technician. After he was drafted, it soon became clear he would be a worthy addition to the forces of the AM, and thus was 'transferred' to them. He has come to this jungle planet to bring whatever new technologies there back to please the Machine God.

Altan and the Enginseer having arguments over the vehicles might bring up some funny situations.

Commander X

But thanks to you I read Altan's description a bit closer, and now I'm going to ask him where he got those goggles ;)

@grubnatz: Chainswords are fine, no Power swords though. The Techpriest is an exceptional case.

@Commander: I'd rather not have NPCs in this one :)

@Kittah: That's alright in game. I'd just rather have a second name for the good of the list. I like neatness, me. Feel free for her to not tell other player characters, I just need it for neatness :) I'm weird like that.

@Xavier: No specific number, just giving people time.

Hope I'm not too lateto join up with...

Borred
Description: just over 6 feet tall, he has dark brown hair and brown eyes.
Regiment: 35th Myrkrian Grenaders
background: served with distinction after basic training and quickly joined the ranks of the elite stormtroopers. While fighting against Orks on Valeria IV, he was drafted by a Xenos Inquisitor and joined his retinue for some time. It was here that he aquired his 2 shotguns from couple of arbites that no longer needed them. The Inquisitors acolyte trained Borred in the finer use of a sword and in return Borred taught him how to brawl. He now uses a combination of the two in combat.

Equipment: 2x combat shoguns in special holsters on his thighs (I know it's not on the list but they are standard weapons, if you say no I'll change it), las pistol in hidden holster (up his left sleeve), 4 Frag 'nades, 1 remote melta bomb, combat knife strapped to left leg, short sword on his back. Has 5 shells in each shotgun plus 20 reloads on a bandoleer. He carries 2 boxes of 50 shells each in his pack. 2 spare las pidtol clips in pack. Standard survival kit, basic rations. Matt black carapace armour.

Borred has perfected the art of reloading his shotguns single handed so he can easily weild both.

Name: Scott Connors
Reigement: 32nd tesna drop Troops

Rank: Trooper (driver)
specialised vehicle: Motorbike (Hell Yeah)

Equipment: Lasgun with five reloads, Auspex, vox-caster (hes one of the guys that carrys the big thing on his back), Laspistol with five reloads, Combat knife, short sword

Background: Need a dangerous job done? Then Connors is your man. Will do anything as long as it involves using a motor bike. Was once disiplined for trying to make an air drop on his motorcycle.

Sorry for posting this so late I was away for the weekend, just got back.

Looks fine. Haven't read the Cain novels (slowly working through the Ghosts ones*) so no problems :)

Good good. And you should get around to reading the Cain novels. They're hellishly amusing.

Anyhoo......More about Pip Edger.

Appearence: Small, only around 5' 2 . Slim but shapely. And dressed in usual Valhallan garb.

Service Background: An original member of the 296th that were amalgomated with the 301th under Commisar Ciaphas Cain's command.
She fought in the battle on Corania...in which she was trained in the use of a Flamer and other special weapons, as they were desperately needed to help fight the Tyranid invaders. It was her love of fire and incenderies that made her the best choice for Flamer operator. She wished to become a demolition expert but failed her tests due to her extreme enthusiasm of blowing things up. Resulting in a massive amount of damage.
She was present at the trouble involving the Tau on Gravalax and the Ork invasion on Simia Orichalcae. Though she was meant to ship out to Adumbria to defend it against a Chaos invasion, however Cain chose her for this mission due to her fire power.

Personal Background: Elizabeth or Pip as she's known to her friends and comrades is more or less a normal trooper. She is a capable fighter and loyal to her commanding officers, regiment and The Emperor.
She hails from the Ice World of Valhalla and joined up to fight for The Emperor and see the galaxy.
So she's nothing truly remarkable or outstanding. Just a grunt who loves to set fires. But she knows how to have a laugh.

Equipment: Flamer, auto-pistol and a combat knife concealed in her boot.
Though she does enjoy rough and tumble Hand-to-Hand at times.

As you should. Is it just me or are characters and the actual people who control them all excessively tall on P?
I feel quite inadequate down here.

Just coz Pip is teeny tiny, height-wise...doesn't mean she can't adminster a good round a butt-kicking when needed.
Plus if all else fails, promethium shall shine through.

Much longer til the start of the RPG?

Antaeus

Equipment: Stool (0pts) - Renders character immune to the Statural Inadequacy special rule until someone kicks it :D *dodges rock*

I wouldn't say it's excessive-remember many posters come from countries with higher average heights, and are predominantly male. I'm unusually tall for a Scot, but in, say, London I wouldn't be considered that tall. For RPG characters, don't know, might be people idealising their charcter: the stereotypical male hero tends to be fairly tall. That could be an element.

Xhalax
19-06-2005, 23:39
Long range weaponary takes care of all!

Yup...many RPG characters seem to be stereotypically brilliant in many aspects. And I've decided against that for Pip. She's just pretty average really. Much like myself.
Only she's skinnier and probably preceived as pretty than I am.

Me, I'm just teeny wherever i go in the UK.

Antaeus
19-06-2005, 23:50
You know what happens every time you metnion your looks on Portent/WarSeer, so I'm not even going to waste your time ;)

A lot of RPG characters are like that, a representation of how the player would like to look/sound/whatever. One of the reasons I like rules-based ones slightly better, since they place restrictions on the character's capabilities.

Timescale wise, I'll see if I can get enough free time to get it started this week. However, I'm in Paisley (town near Glasgow) most of the afternoon and evening every day this week, so I'm not promising anything.

@ Antaeus - I use basically the same character in every RPG I take part in. I've grown attached to Borred and he sort of evolves as each one progresses. For his background, this game is set several years before the other one I'm in.

It's true about RPG characters being what the player wants to be (in my case anyway). general appearance is basically me: 6'2", brown eyes and hair, devilish good looks*, being good with a sword is something I like to think I am but know I'm not. And shotguns have always held a fasination for me, ever since I unlocked the cheat on Goldeneye for all weapons I've used double shotguns

Enginseer Edinte (Commander X)
Sergeant Nefero (Yin Yang)
Sergeant Quinne (diddimz)
Commissar Vorn (warlord grubnatz)
Trooper 'Sophie' (Kittah) - still looking for the damned surname :p
Trooper Beslan (tyranid05)
Trooper Otega (Slazton)
Trooper Kodjiro (Hoshi No Koe)
Trooper Borred (marineowar)
Trooper Connors (Scotty)
Trooper Edger (Xhalax)

Ok, that's it for recruitment, 12's more than I expected. But no matter. As said before, I'll start it as soon as I have things sorted out-shouldn't be too long. Hell, could be this week depending on various factors. Watch this space.

Can I join back up now that its actually started and ant isnt as mad at me as he was last night ;)

Name: Kayleigh "hawk eyes" Sureip
Regiment: Elysian Drop Troops
Position: Sniper (Pathfinder)
Apearance: Flowing raven black hair, Left eyebrow piercing, green eyes that have earned her the nickname hawk eyes. Jungle camoflauge fatigues with mesh armour under them, doesnt wear a helmet. Normally carries the long las over her back, while in combat though she will be armed with the long las.
Wargear: Mesh armour and helmet, grav chute on back (till landed) Jungle Camoflauge, Sniper Camo Cloak, Customised Long las (Fires hotshot, has flash suspenser), Night vision goggles, Devil's Claw, Collapsable bo staff, Respirator (Not on the list, but how do you propose a drop trooper breathes on the way down?), Las Pistol, Auspex, Bayonet, lasgun maintenance kit She carries 8 reloads for the las weapons (which I assume use the same power pack) Field Rations for 1 week, survival kit.

Background: The snipers of the Elysians are normally dropped in solo from high altitude to scout out and recon a potential mass landing site for the rest of the regiment, or when they are engaging the enemy from dropship to relay when it would be favourable to drop.

After basic training she was dropped into an ork held jungle where she was to find a suitable landing site for the coming imperial offensive, this was an ork held planet and she was effectivley the only human on its surface, that was until the catachans made themselves known, having been following her for a few hours they eventually made themselves known, although walking towards a sniper unanounced isnt a good idea and one catachan almost met an early death, luckily she managed to change her aim in time. While in the company of the catachans she learned jungle warfare and tactics and was given a catachan devil from one of them who's eye she had caught.

Fine. I never told you to leave, just that you should if you were going to keep harrasing me about starting.

One thing: Do your characters really say "Ess-Gee-Tee" instead of Sergeant? Oh, and diddimz, Sergeants aren't officers, just to clarify. You're all grunts here :)

Sorry if I'm being pedantic, but I have standards to keep up :) Anyway, I'll give a bit more time for arrivals, then get down to 't nitty gritty. And nitty gritty is good.

Alright, alright. Just don't overdo it. Don't want to have the thread locked.

One restriction I'm introducing: remember you are Imperial Guard. You fear Commissars, every last one of you. One speaks to you, you go respectful and any arguing will cease. Just making this clear. He won't always be around, and tension is fine, but respect for the Commissar must be absolute. Same for grubnatz's Commissar, though he'll have less influence.

Xhalax

Antaeus
23-06-2005, 22:23
Depends how grubnatz plays it. React to him as you think the character would, but again, remember what he is. If he appears weak though, you might get away with a bit of disrespect. But if he's a strong, authoritarian Commissar, disrespect will get you executed. He has that authority (with my permission). But I trust you will all not require that to happen :)

Do what your character would do - but that warning is there for a reason. You seem to have chosena character with serious problems with authority-the kind of character that doesn't usually last long in the Imperial Guard.

I'll be more lenient than usual, so post what you think the character would do while surrounded by uniformed troops.

I just feel sorry for Jax, the poor man is going to be cooped up in a Sentinal driving that slow **** peice of crap!

Hey Antaues, whats the kit-out on it? All I ask is that I get the chainblade attachment as well, it's cool and rates 9.5 on the kick **** Sentinal meter lol.

Also I'm guessing either heavy flamer or multi-laser right? Or am I using an autocannon? I just need to know what heat the sentinal is packing.

If I could make a suggestion, I would like this set-out:

-Heavy Flamer or Autocannon
-Chainsaw atachment
-Extended Comms
-Smoke Launchers

As they would have practical uses in the RPG itself ;)

Kittah
26-06-2005, 10:07
So considering I completely missed the start of this thing, and I'm what... 15 pages behind, is there any way for me to join in still?

I haven't read up to date in the IC thread yet, got to about page 4 - but I'm still very keen to join up, so long as I can be inserted in place easily.

Suffice to say, I've been very busy the last few days - I've had 2 school balls/proms to be organising myself for and I've had a very social weekend, what with one of the 2 balls/proms being last (Saturday) night.

That and the fact that I wasn't expecting it to be called "Shadow Wolves" instead of "Behind Enemy Lines IC Thread"

Antaeus, I left what Altan looted ambiguous so I could talk to you. For all it matters it could be one of the guard's dog tags (I did say he stole compulsively, it will be better in check on the battlefield where I don't need to steal from allies) but I had an idea for a weapon that I wanted you to ok.

Basically think brass knuckles, but with an electric charge in them. A pair for both hands. If you don't want me to have those, then that's ok.

You big meany, I'll edit now then. Hmm, might have to get Commander to rig one on there if we find one big enugh to jerry rig it on there.

Speaking of jerry rigging, can Commander's Eginseer do jerry rigging, as in using spare parts and stuff to modfy the sentinel if need be? Also what its name? Or is it just Shadow Four as Jax might have to christen it a name then.

One more question, what do I use in hand to hand then? Or do I have to sit back and just fire away?

Antaeus
28-06-2005, 01:33

A Halo jump, where you don't open the chute until the last instant.

A Halo jump, where you don't open the chute until the last instant.

As nikki said its a high altitude low opening jump, though im not sure if it would be called a halo in 40k, as you dont technically open a grav chute..

In real life, its what the SAS and other elite forces use to get in unseen and undetected, they jump from a very very high altitude (edge of space) free fall till they are about 50 feet above the ground then open their chute (half the size of a normal parachute) and usually black, while keeping their neck as far forward as they can so the whiplash doesnt snap their neck, then land while still going rather fast. Normally its done over water for obvious reasons.

Valkyries have door mounted heavy bolters don't they? Can we use em?

Antaeus

In theory you could, but since you'd be in serious danger of getting blown to bits by stray fire, common sense suggests staying inside ;) Besides, you don't have any solid targets at the moment.

Good thinking though :) I'll update later on today.

I was thinking that exact same thing in the shower this morning.

Personally, I think it's time for another GM post. There's not much room for conversation and our range of actions are quite limited while we are outside of the atmosphere and strapped in our seats. Lets get the story moving.

Ant said he'd update soon.

At any rate, it's a really long way from high orbit to the atmosphere. It took days to get from the earth to the moon, and a valkyrie won't be going that much faster (I shouldn't think) I mean, it needs to conserve enough fuel to break free from the planetary gravity well, plus maneuvere in the atmosphere as well.

Even in the atmosphere (high atmosphere) we will get sucked out if we open the doors... think airplane when a window is broken or a door isnt sealed properly...

.. first off I was joking about the whole halo thing.. second off.. you were thinking about halo jumps in the shower... third off hala sounds gay :) to be more precise it sounds like somthing the rebels in most army games say (hala mofad) etc, halo sounds cool, being a popular game, the embodyment of purity (angels halo) the emperor had one if you want 40k stuff, etc...

halo > hala

Which, as seen on Discovery is just an untrue myth. ;)

er.. I have done training to be an air steward as part of a travel and tourisim course.. I know what happens when theirs a pressure leak let alone a door opening, I dont really give a crap what discovery says... and thats when they are flying at comerical height. Mythbusters determined a small, or even medium sized hole in an airplane at operating altitude wouldn't be enough to suck someone out. Unless the hole got large enough to drive a truck through.

Xhalax
29-06-2005, 22:52
Well for the first part...I'd guess we're all firmly strapped down. As for bailing out, wwe'd probably be low enough for depressurization without us all being sucked out.

But that's just working on my logic.

I just remembered Altan had a bionic knee. Performance wise this means nothing at all, merely fluff. He got hit in the knee by a pulse rifle round, they saved his leg from the knee down and up, but the joint was obliterated.

Also, Altan is momentarily paralized from his jarring impact. Give him time, covering fire, and maybe a hand and he'll be right as rain.

EmperorsChamp01

can jenkins run to the woodline and see the people there? His fluff is that he can sneek around pretty well. But i just wanted to ask. If not just have the commisar tell hm to get back to the group.

Xavier
30-06-2005, 08:10
Gradual depressureisation (long word cant spell it) wont suck someone out, rapid (omg a huge whole just appeared) depressureisation would. But seat belts etc would generally serve their function and keep you in your seat, while all the air would be sucked out and you'd need a mask..

marineowar

Mind you, early morning (just pre-dawn) in a jungle would be fairly dark imho, cause the Canopy would block a fair amount of light.

As I see it, there is Altan, Pip and a few others grouped in the clearing.

The other folks are scattered around the surrounding jungle, with one person on one side, another on another side of the clearing. The badies are charging in in a single group?

How do the characters not in the clearing all get knocked over? Especially those of us well behind the enemy firebase, such as Myself and the Enginseer? Are there bad guys charging away from the clearing as well?

I can't write a RP post until I get some more info on the situation.

I assumed that a 0400 drop, + like 30 mins of a drop = 0430 so.. darkness, dawn... ya know..

Everyone dropped in the clearing. The enemy are surrounding said clearing inside the dense treeline. I don't remember stating that anyone dropped behind them. Anyone who moved into the treeline will be right on top of enemy troops lying in wait.

But I specifically moved my character deeper into the trees. Beyond the enemy firebase. Anyone wishing to fire into the clearing would, by necessity, need to be between myself and the clearing. Thus the only way I could be 'bowled over' is to encounter a seperate group charging away from the clearing.

I don't want to come across as whiney, and I don't mind if my character winds up in some deep crap, it's just that I specifically placed him 30 or more metres into the tree-line. For him to get bowled over in surprise stretches my suspension of disbelief, is all.

Set plan for exactly how it will proceed with no flexibility and people who try to do somthing different often find themselves back on a preset chain of events despite doing somthing that wouldn't normally have happened.

In this case, your moving away from the clearing was different but affected how ant wanted somthing to happen so you are affected anyway, or atleast thats how I see it

And he is completely wrong :)

@Adept: I understand what you're getting at...I was trying to imply that you are all cokpletely surrounded and that moving towards the source of enemy fire in your current situation would be suicidal, and that you were all dropped a good forty-fifty metres from the treeline. But it's a bit late for that now...go with it then. I was going to give you opportunities to ambush enemy units later on, but I guess it'll need to happen now. In that case if you've somehow gotten behind the wall of enemy fire with all your limbs intact, you won't get knocked over by them charging out of the trees. They'll notice that they're getting attacked from behind and fire towards you as well though.

Adept
30-06-2005, 14:24

Okay. Like I said, I wasn't trying to pick holes in you, I guess we just had different visions of what was happening and the area we were in. I was imagining regular, but light, small arms fire from the edge of the clearing. I also figured it was dark (before sunrise) and figured the clearing was smaller than that.

Anyway, I'll run with it now. I guess we just need to be clearer on things like terrain, positioning and time of day.

Cheers.

The idea that I wasn't allowing flexibility: I'm giving as much as I can. However, it's bloody difficult to keep track of what a dozen different people are doing in a combat zone, so I need to try and keep things simple: it's striking a balance that's difficult. Such are the restrictions of text-based media.

And yes, I'll be more specific on...I think I'm more specific than most text GMs, but I'll do what I can.
