I've recently started collecting Vostroyans in a bid to eventually supplant my Space Marines as my main army. Since starting, I've gone from having very few small ideas to absolutely huge ideas that are so plentiful I'm having to write them down lest I forget what they are!

This thread is both a showcase for the army as it is being built and also a way of keeping all of my ideas in the same place. It will be updated as often as possible, which is to say probably on a weekly basis. I've tried Project Logs before, and somehow managed to spend more time updating the Log than I did actual work on the project...

Here are the ideas I've had so far:

A Vostroyan Casualty model on a converted hospital bed to represent "Medicae Facility" Strategem.
A Vostroyan Casualty model on the Command HQ Squad Medic's base.
A Vostroyan Casualty model to represent an objective marker.
A converted Lieutenant to represent a Standard Bearer.
A Hardened Veterans Squad that will be heavily converted to represent a Kill Team.
A Vostroyan Lasgun model converted to represent a Sniper Rifle (since changed to a Meltagun when I ruined the rifle!)
All models that are converted should be done so with Space Marine parts if possible due to the large amount of bits in my box.

There are pictures of some of these models already:

The army list for the first 1000pts of the project can be found here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42395).

The colours I plan to use are muted greens and browns. I've tried a green scheme on the Vostroyans before but it was too bright for my liking so I've gone looking for a scheme more appropriate.

Well, that's it for this update. I'll see you in a week for another one!

I dunno whether this is just me but, I don't think the head on the first pic is very.... 'Vostroyan'. It's probably just me though. I think you've got some good ideas there, so keep up the good work, and I'll follow this project closely. :)

I see what you mean - it lacks that something "Vostroyan", doesn't it? I agree it might need to be changed, but to be honest it's kinda growing on me. And it's certainly different!

A Catachan might be a better idea, that's true. Although I am considering picking up half a box of Cadians that will eventually become a Hardened Veterans Squad / Kill Team / conversions pool. Maybe one of the non-helmeted heads would do.

I've settled on a colour scheme for the army which is almost fully visible on the Sniper here. The green is a Catachan Green base, highlighted with a Catachan Green and Camo Green mix and then finally highlighted with watered down Camo Green. The watered down final highlight looks quite patchy up close and I can't decide if it's a decent effect or not. I want a muted, "dirty" look and half of me thinks I've achieved it.

As ever, ideas are coming thick and fast...

A converted Sergeant from the Vostroyan Regiment box to represent a Standard Bearer.
The Ultimate Commanding Officer! A converted Kislevite Lancer mounted on a Warhorse to represent the army Commander.
The banner will have a picture of a tower painted on it, surrounded by Daemons and will have the motto "Turris Fortissima Est Nomen Vostroya" on it. Somehow!
Space Marine Backpack banners to either make objective markers or flags that will go on tanks.

Obviously the mounted Commander would NOT be WYSIWYG as he would not be riding a horse in the game. I've been checking up on the Internet for pictures of Russian Cossacks to get ideas for the conversions. There were mounted soldiers in the pictures and I thought it would make a fantastic centrepiece. Plus, all of my Command HQ models are on 40mm round bases so the mounted Commander wouldn't look too out of place.

Now I'm happy with the colours, I can start painting up the first squad.
