It takes every =I= retinue choice and adds some cool new ones. I always like the "reroll scatter dice" one.

Its a good IG choice. To bad its not legal... it should be....

To extrapolate a little from that, It gives you a Senior Commanding officer and a selection of individuals who are his personal attendants, from Confessors and Historians to Bodyguards and Military Advisors (not to mention the chance to include Batman! :p) many of the attendants confer unit/army bonuses in a similar way to those conferred by an Inquisitor's retinue.

It's a special modelling opportunity and, given that the unit consists of little more than Guardsmen it's not exactly overpowered and there shouldn't be too many objections to including it in the occasional battle, especially as part of a narrative campaign.

I love the High Command. Instead of boni for the unit itself it often gives boni to other unit or the army in general. Very fluffy for the guard.

Can anyone remember which WD issue it is in?

The one with the dancing wood elves on the cover.

WD 308

Or you could always ask someone to lend you the white dwarf instead of buying it...

And it has the best selection choice ever: Batman!

Batman? Huh?

Where I play its totally legal along with those TS magnus chosen (or whatever theyre named) for tournaments. Im talking about big events here.

PS anyone knows in which issue there are rules for xeno mounts?

Batman? Huh?

For 5 points or so you can include Batman. A Batman. I thinks it's a franchise or something. :D

No, sadly not the batman, but a military batman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_%28army%29).

Looks good in army builder though.

I must admit, I still have not yet played with the High Command Rules, but I've been meaning to use them for quite some time. It's largely an Inquisitorial retinue, except designed for Imperial Guard.

I frankly think they would make a pretty interesting and characterful unit, especially in specialized scenarios. Assassination missions targetting the High Command or an HQ geting trapped in a building on the CoD scenario "Relief Force" would be pretty interesting (though I think the latter would be nigh unwinnable).

Bah - copycats!
Leave our retinues alone!
(Although taking Batman along is cool).

Getting a LD 9 psychic hood in any guard army is always nice :D, and he is only 10 pts.

But unfortunately he's only LD 8 IIRC.
