I don't know if anyone already saw this, but in the new french White Dwarf (French WD nr.148) there is a reference made to a new army for Warhammer. It's on page 144.

The guy sais he plays Black Templars and a new secret army for Warhammer that is made to honour the new version of Warhammer. I have no idea what this army could be, if they are the CD or the DoW, or something completely new. Or it could be just a joke and he's playtesting O&G or Empire...
Discuss, I guess ^^

I've scanned it in if you guys want to see it

Made to honour the new version? Couldn't it just be somthing he made personaly? The wording 'Made' sounds strange to me, asif he plays an army/list he made...

The more the merrier I always say ... would be cool if they did this but if they didn't, no big loss.

The word "made" (faire in french) isn't used in the original text. I just used it in my free translation...

Anyhow, f he would have made it why would he keep it a secret?

Bah I don't believe it's a new army. The more I look the more sceptical I am. The way I see this going is it's an army hes recently made to 'honour' the new release and he's either said it's secret because hes stupid or because he isn't telling. It can't be a new army surely...No way would there be a new one under construction before CD and DoW, players would go ape-sh...er they would be very unhappy.

I'd guess he is going to collect an own new army. There won't be a knew race in Warhammer, only the guy is going to choose one for himself out of the current range - normal way of live for a GW employee (the higher the rank, the more you have to show of your hobby skills)...
I wouldn't go for any new army in Warhammer - neither Cathay nor Fishmen...

I hope for either Halflings or Cathay!

I tried translating it on Alta Vista, and it comes up with a load of rubbish. I think he's just saying he's got a army that he's started using for the new edition, but I would really like it if it was Chaos Dwarfs he was making (as he knows theres new book in the works?).

Would you mind posting the translation that you found with AltaVista? I'm rather curious... :)

On topic: It could be that he just created his own army but I'm still rooting for a new armybook

It says he's playing a secret army to properly celebrate the release of the new Warhammer. Therefore I'd say he's just playing something from the new O&G book...

I could be wrong, though, but that's how I interpret his words.

EDIT: The first sentence is my translation. French isn't my best language, but I can read it well enough.

I personally dont believe it.. GW has already alot of armies.. and most of them arent even updated to like.. the 5th edition, So in 2008-2009 there is a slight possibility that there will be a new army but for now.. I dont see it coming.

It only says "armies: BT and a secret army to celebrate *the new Warhammer*." I think it's most likely a back-of-the-book list.

I'm with the others. He's probably personally going to construct a new army for himself. Unless they totally catch the rest of us by surprise by coming up with Halfling Fishermen of Cathay.

On a side note, I don't think they'll get around to Cathay, at most, I'd suspect them making a DoW choice with Cathay, which I think is a better approach anyways.

Translation:
"Armies: Black Templars and a secret army to honorably celebrate the new Warhammer release."

In my interpretation, this is just a private conversion projekt of this Direct Sales manager. According to rumours, there is no room for an extra new army apart from Orks, Empire and Vampires for a long time. The text gives no reason to think otherwise except wishful thinking.

More translation:
"Specialty:Game specialist, painting and conversions, Warhammer 40k."

That should give us a hint on this secret army ;)

he has a secret army... this means, that he converted and painted an army that he doesn't tell anyone what it is to suprise his GW-friends when the new edition starts.

nothing more.

Prepare to laugh: "a news armee secrete for celebrer with dignity the exit of new Warhammer". That's what Alta Vista translates it as.

I hate to say this but GW has its releases planned out for about 2-3 years ahead of time. Figures take time to sculpt, molds to be made, fluff to be written, etc.
No, they don't let everyone know what's coming after the next thing, GW marketing prefers to dribble the info a spoonfull at a time, hyping the next big you -must-buy-this now-thingy with all their might.

I remember a few years ago on "thewarp" when someone from GW leaked and posted an advanced release schedule, which prompted GW to threaten legal action against Lordbunny, the Moderator, if it wasn't removed immeadiatly.

Why? Competition is my guess.

Which leaves us to scrabble about for bits of info or photos. I gotta say we do a good job of it here though, I went to Baltimore Games Day this year and the only thing in the "upcoming releases" case that I hadn't already seen right here was the new oversized Gotrek & company display models.

uhmm this time they are making two releases for army book so the armys will be released earlier.

Milgram

not really. they split it up for a second hype. that's why the 'best' models will be in the second release as in the first one is the army book.

But wasn't there some mention of having the Chaos Dwarves in the new rulebook? Either their stats or a section on them? And what's with all the party poopers around here? Maybe I haven't been playing long enough to have become so jaded ...

They *better* bring back Chaos Dwarfs. Even if it's another WHITE DWARF PRESENTS: CHAOS DWARFS. Anything...and models.

Speaking of "new armies" I just have to add that I find it despicable that they cant bring themselves to simply update the DoW list for this edition. Even if its just gonna be a "pending a Real update, your gonna have to work with this half-rules. Cheers."

It almost feels like DoW is a dying army. Because they arent selling enough models from the range? Damn it, close the range if you have to. DoW armies can be made entirely without using any DoW models anyway.

Sorry but im a tad pissed off by this since I just recently bought a bunch of models for my DoW Pirate based list. And now it seems im gonna have to update the DoW list myself for use in private games. It needs a little tweaking at least.

Dark elves should fit in there somewhere too. They are a very popular army with only one plastic set and a fairly weak, revised list.
