I've often looked at some of the Inquisitor scale models and stood in awe. They make fantastic painting projects, with some awesome models.

Now, I'm wondering, why not make a version for fantasy. There would be a whole bunch of models you could make on that scale.

Because there is no background niche that allows every possible race to encounter each other plausibly.

Unless you are talking about just 54mm scale models, not a Warhammer Inquisitor varient (Although, I think some one on the Conclave (http://forums.specialist-games.com/inquisitor/forum_b/default.asp?CAT_ID=4) has modified =][= rules for warhammer.)

Well, they could always do that for Mordheim, some sort of 54mm Mordheim, that could work.

Thing is that the current Mordheim works well, and the size of the models in Inquisitor as it is is often seen as a downside. Many people like to play Inquisitor with 40k size models because it saves them having to make a whole new load of large terrain and models when they already have stuff that will do just fine.

Personally, I like the Inquisitor-sized stuff, but I don't think it would catch on.

From what I can tell Inquisitor was an experiment in model making, casting techniques, peoples acceptance of different sized miniatures etc. The rules are pretty laughable in terms of execution, and the ideal it represented is simply put too high for the average gamer.

There is certainly room in the background of the Warhammer World for a game setting that would be similiar to Inquisitor (I once described my vision of it along these lines, a Cthuluesque/Indian Jones style narrative adventure wargame set within the crypts, catacombs and hidden places of the Warhammer World. The agents of wizards, vampires, spies, chaos cults etc fighting climatic battles around the ownership/protection of the iconic magic items/holy relics/ancient chaotic powers of the Warhammer World.).

It would be easy enough to do - however realistically Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay fulfills the job a lot better. But for those REALLY into narrative wargaming (a DECIDEDLY niche group) there is ample background and situations in the Warhammer World for such a game to exist.

I'm not sure about that. Despite surface similarities Inquisitor and WFRP are nothing alike. Inquisitor is essentially a combat game, with ambiguity built into its rules. It's painfully obvious it was a rush job, and it's a challenge to get your head around - a lot of its specifics range from unintuitive to outright ridiculous - but you can work around that easily if you (or at least your GM) like jamming with rules, because its framework is perfect for its aims. Once you click with it, it becomes effortless.

WFRP, on the other hand, places its emphasis is on the actual roleplay; the crunch stuff is there as a means to an end and is not actually that wonderful in its own right. The game suffers if you use miniatures at all, becoming robotic and intrusive - it's much happier taking place in your head. It's really not suitable for a game where combat is intended to be an important tactical feature.

I did a fantasy mod for Inquisitor back in the day - it's still on my old website in fact. Even got around to playtesting it a fair bit and my gaming group loved it, but then I was quite a popular GM for normal Inquisitor as well, so that's probably more to do with my GMing style than the quality or the concept of my Warhammer mod for the rules, which is pretty embarrassing in hindsight. I think the potential is there, though.

I'd be interested in it more for the 58mm miniatures than the roleplaying. Imagine a 58mm archaon.

I would love what Mad Makz described, that Is how I already play =][=, addmittedly I may have a somewhat Star Wars esque party... but its fun to play like that, rather than as WHOSE MARINE IS TOUGHEST!!!!

Yes, I am sure there are those who would love what I described, and plenty who would love the miniatures, but not enough to warrant GW diverting the resources necessary away from their core games.

Now, if they started designing those 54mm models as plastic kits (with the move towards all plastic) and they saw longevity in selling those then they might do it, but in the meantime I am pretty sure they will continue focussing all their resources on high unit products with low transportation costs.

I dont see what is wrong with a normal sized game. You get the added bonus of being able to use minis you already have, as well as a huge pre-existing selection of bits to choose from. Not too mention any terrain you make can double for normal fantasy.

How exactly does bigger models make that much of a difference? I guess it would be nice to play around with models with a higher level of detail, but games such as Inquisitor require much conversion work, and as I mentioned above, such work is easier when you have a large assortment of models to pull bits from, and to have them remain in scale. That wont happen with a system with models of a different scale as it wont start out with that huge depth of pre-existing models.

In WHFB, would the I scale models count as Big'uns? (Orcs, that is)

Will they be plastic or metal?
