A while ago I decided that I want to have a good "display" army to use, and after several other ideas that never really came to fruition I setteled on the Death Guard and ordered several boxes (taking advantage of the - free postage offer)

This is the army list that I will be buying around (http://warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=838886&postcount=1)

Today the boxes arrived (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/1c1e3021.jpg) - However due to my income not bein able to stretch to 100 of models in one fell swoop I have had to get a willing parent to purchase the models which I will then buy back one box at a time.

The Standard Workstation Shot - The Kitchen! (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/aa9251c5.jpg)

1st Up - Havocs, I got all the bits out, (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/44b87a03.jpg) had a good look at them and then, Minor Disaster Number 1! - I had forgotten to order backpacks. Thankfully I had a few squads of chaos marines in storage, so I dug them out and redeemed 6 backpacks (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/3a7350df.jpg).

The Havoc Squad Fully Built 1 (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/696822d3.jpg) 2 (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/8b7d50e9.jpg)

Next update will be WIPs of the paintjob - provided it stops raining to I can spray them...

I will watch this with great intrest. Having just read False Gods i think i may have to indulge my chaotic side, your project may just help me make a choice of which legion.

ooh dear...No pressure then.

The models are undercoated and are now drying.

It was false Gods that turned me to nurgle too...

Damn books corrupting me, making me want to spend money i dont have:cries:

Im torn between Death Guard and Emperors Children. The Emperors Children because they are perfectionists, wanting to be the best at everything, the Death Guard because of their disease and becoming stronger because they embraced it and the rest of Nurgals teachings. Both forces have elements of my personality and ego in them, yet i just cant decide :(

I'm a slaanesh player, so naturally id be biased. but personally id stick with deathguard, its much easier to make a very good looking force of deathguard than emperor's children, IMHO

Good luck

Sounds good, I guess since you've undercoated them, your not converting them at all?

I have decided against Converting the basic squads of my Death Guard because I am not the greatest fan of most of the conversions I see for them and they are done by very talented modellers, unlike myself - My greatest GS acheivement is making a new hoof for a tau...

I would say that - Once you have a good pink technique and a good set of flesh tones (one pale, one more human) that the Emperors Children are easier to paint than the Death Guard, however in terms of gameplay I am not a fan of the servants of Slannesh, as the psychology aspect is harder to create in 40k than in Fantasy, so you end up with an army of Junkie Nymphomaniac Metalheads.

Undercoated Squad (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/186bbe56.jpg)

Painting is now about 50% complete (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/bb307cb1.jpg), I just need to add a few details etc, and clean up the metals and flesh. But I felt that as I had promised a finished product yesturday that I should at least show what I have done...

The Paintjob so far (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/Will_C2005/Death%20Guard/ac4784c5.jpg)has been a 50/50 mix of camo green and bleached bone - which give a very nice pale green. Then picked out some of the nurgle marks with scorched brown, and did all of the edgeing and weapons with boltgun metal, the armour was then given a wash of dark green ink - which made the green more diseased looking as well as giving it a slimy shine. Then the barrels and magazines of the weapons and the breathing apparatus were washed with chesnut ink and the weapons & backpack vanes with black ink for the oily decaying look. Now I am going to Re coat the metal edging in Mithril Silver to provide a contrast to the decay of the armour plates, I also notice that in a few places I have missed out the ink wash... this will be re-done.

The flesh so far has had Dwarf flesh, Elf flesh, a heavy highlight of Rotting flesh, and now needs a wash to pick out the deeper shadows, followed by another highlight of rotting flesh.

Also, any suggestions as to what to put on the loincloth of the Aspiring Champion other than just a :. rune as that isnt all that intresting...

A fly. Either just the head or the whole body.

looking good so far, are you going to dirty up the metal areas though because at the moment they look to clean for nurgle.

a flesh wash i find works wonders on metal though (infact, flesh wash the whole model and theyl look just like my nurgle marines :p)

Thanks people :) I didn't expect this much support, I have now finished the squad - bar basing (but i need to decide on how to do that).

The trim has been painted with Mithril silver and deliberatley left in a bright tone to give a contrast.

Annoyingly my Dad has decided to clean the desk so no pictures as I cannot find the cable >.<

Should have some this evening.
