View Full Version : Giants, which one?

so which giant model do you prefer? I've never painted one so I figure I should. I cant make my mind up so I started this thread, right now I'm leaning to what used to be called the "Marauder Giant" (the bearded old one with the tree club and keg of beer).

The metal orc and goblin one got my vote, the big saggy **** on the plastic one puts me off.

vampires are cool!

the new one looks to fat and old
the metal one looked tough and mean
if they redo the giant id like them to just make that modle bigger and make it plastic

the plastic giant is better beacuse you get alot of crap in 2 spures + a cool base

15-08-2006, 19:10
Marauder giant :D

Gotta be the beautiful maurauder giant.

Mine is based off of the 6th ed metal giant. He's devoted to Tzeentch. He's big, he's blue, and he has flamer mouths spewing from his face, arms, and body. His left leg and "club arm" are mostly flamers.

Mines totally blue, and goes by the names "viagra" and "big blue"

I voted the plastic Giant, mainly because he's huge and ugly (in a good way), is easily convertable and comes with a shedload of bits. :)

The 6th edition Giant is my 2nd favourite, but he's a bit short (beautiful pose though).

The Albion Giants are pewter poo. The poses are okay (at least they're dynamic), but they've got the Mark of Morisson all over them - badly sculpted heads, badly sculpted huge square hands, badly sculpted feet that are of uneven size, and they're not even tall enough to be worthy of the "Giant"-label. They remind me more of 10-feet-tall Pinocchios.

The Marauder Giant is a wonderfully detailed sculpt (done by the Morissons! The same ones that made those ***** Albion Giants - they used to be good you know :P) and he's a pleasure to paint (mine is made from lead and gave me a huge left biceps after 60 hours of painting :D), but he's got a silly beard (short cropped beard + no moustache = Papa Smurf) and a rather dull pose so he didn't get my vote.

There's also one very old Giant made by Alan Perry in the 1980's, who is as rare as flying frogs and is simply amazing. And some of the other Really Old Giants are quite sexy as well (altough hardly bigger than a modern Ogre :p)

Ha! yes! I used to have "Botsnortle" he was one of the first minis I ever bought (along with (dwarfs from the north). However I was 9 and never painted it, no idea what happened to it.

I voted for the plastic Giant for the simplicity of constructing it.

I like the plastic giant. He looks like he's got problems, y'know?
He looks like how I've always thought giants should look: misshapen, distended and not quite right for their size. Not chaotic, mind, just ugly monsters. Never proportionate humans.

The Marauder Giant is 5 times the giant as the ones that followed. However, I'm sure a lot of people don't remember how it looks.

I don't understand GW's reasoning for the giant to shave his head?

Marauder Giant - Simplistic pose. Natural looking head of hair. Great body shape. A tree trunk is a fitting weapon. He knows to carry a barrel of booze with him. Let's just say you also don't want to get directly under him and look up. Terrifying indeed. Metal !

6th Ed - doesn't he look kinda pirate-ish? Maybe it's just me. Why would a giant shave half their head? Also, isn't his stick with a headstone in it kinda a poor choice of weapon (it'd break easily, with little to no advantage). I do like that he's still got some muscle on him though.

7th Ed - once again, plastic centerpieces don't compare. Shaved head again. Where'd all the muscle go? It looks like it moved to his stomach. Three toes? They added to its height, which is good and the face looks great.

I just like the new plastic giant cos he's so damn big.

The Marauder is definitely my favourite. By far.

Then, I'm probably going to surprise many people, but I think O prefer teh Albion Giants to the O&G giant of 6th edition.

As for the plastic giant, he would be cool if it were not for the fact that he looks pregnant...

Well, I do like the new plastic giant. I "may" pick one up. In the mean time, I use a giant that I've had for 25/30 years. It was NOT made as a wargaming minie/model/toy. It's a norseman, with light armour, shield and came with a ax and a sword. The minie/statue is now on a 50mm large square base. I've never had a complaint from an opponent. That includes at the GW store.

If the statue was from a competing wargames supplier I wouldn't use it in a game at the local store.

Its gotta be the marauder. Anyone who wields a tree wins in my books.

18-08-2006, 22:39
Marauder is the best by far, I'm getting both marauder and palstic just because I don't want to mess around with marauders amazing sculpt.

19-08-2006, 05:18
so my opion, is for other, and that other is the FW giant! the new one

19-08-2006, 07:57
@ TheWarSmith: I'd like to see that Viagra of yours:evilgrin:.

I voted for Marauder, as he is simply the best. I have one, painted by a friend of mine, who is a far better painter than I am. I got the 6th ed one to paint myself but need to trade it to get the plastic one.

So my order for giant honours:

2. plastic - but will swap head for one of the Albion ones
3. 6th ed
4 Albion ones.

19-08-2006, 08:29
I' ve got the plastic one, but my favourite is absolutely the Marauder.

19-08-2006, 11:26

muaha, good one.

I bought the good old marauder giant. I painted it in the way of the 50/60s disney fairy tale giants... some kind of scorched brown to bronzed flesh brushed.
