I've noticed in the GW online store they only offer 2 Middenheim models for Mordheim warbands. Is that because they just expect you shop through the GW Empire army line?

Well, the bitz that used to form the Human Mercenaries boxset have conversion parts (heads, hammers) to make your humans into Middenheimers, so you can do the bulk of your warband in plastics:

In addition to that I count 6 hero models on the UK store.

That's all they made. The Middenheim hairy head sprue and a box of plastic Empire militia is all you need. Middenheimers are actually the cheapest gang to start and the easiest to convert except for maybe Skaven.

You've also the option of all the Middenheim troops (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=List_Models&code=301566&orignav=13) for the Empire army list.

Aggghhh! I based my search on the US games workshop. I wonder why theres so much disparity between the two. Thanks for the info.

on the US GW site search for "Middenheimer" and you'll find a few more things to help not on the normal page.

Beastmen are also pretty easy to do as you can just order a sprue and you have 3 gors and 2 ungors right there. I think the normal WFB range for beasties is better than the specialist range.

(heads, hammers)

Background-wise, hammers are specifically a Knights of the White Wolf signature - they're not related to Middenheim or Ulric, just the knights. Ulric is actually depicted with an axe, which makes axes if anything the most Ulricy weapons; but apart from that, hammers are no more and no less Middenheim related than any other weapon.

Mayhap, but there are still a heck of a lot of hammers on the Hairy Heads sprue. :p

I haven't looked at any Mordheim stuff for ages, but I'm pretty sure there was some link between Mioddenheimers and hammers. Plus, the Wolf Priest dude was only allowed to carry hammers/maces/clubs.

Whoever wrote the Mordheim wolf priest was under the same misconception. The WFB Priests of Ulric carry axes after all. Bloody Knights of the White Wolf making even some GW people think that hammers have something to do with Middenheim... grumble... moan...

Anyway, just an FYI. Nothing serious.

Isn't that the same sprue that is included in the Empire Knights boxed set? That would be an explanation for all those hammers.

Yar, but it was released with Mordheim.... A long while before the Knights boxed set was released.....

Mordheim only came out about a year before WHFB6. Considering GW's lead time on product and their love of re-using plastics, I have always believed the Middenheimer sprue was intended to be used both in Mordheim and in the Knightly Order box.
