Note: This is not a rant about GW pricing!!

I just got back from GW, trying to find something that I can shoot at Tau. :)

I was checking out the Wraithguard. Are they the most expensive unit in 40K, in terms of dollars per point? Since I began collecting Eldar I've known that they are pricey models, both in points and dollars per point. (I have less models than my son's Tau army, and he has roughly 2/3 the amount of points! Tau models are very inexpensive, comparatively! Case in point -- 10 Dires vs. 10 Fire Warriors. The Dires are about 50% more in points cost, with weapons that don't even cover half the range)

But the Wraithguard ... wow! The smallest unit of Wraithguard costs somewhere around $75, less tax! Add a Warlock, and you're looking at a LOT of money for 6 models!!

Like I said, I'm not complaining but .... Eldar are pricey!!

Maybe they will make plastic ones...a la the new Wraithlord. It would be about time. They do seem to be one of the most expensive units based on Points per Dollar/GBP...

Current word on the street is that there will not be any plastic Wraitguard this time around.

Though, maybe they're just "saving" something special for the release of Codex:Eldar?

On a cash to points ratio, i think the current Grots (the metal Gorkamorka-era models) probably beat them. WG are pretty high up the list though.

I'd say chaos spawns. Twenty points, twentyfive dollars.

Roughriders are pretty high up - especially if, for some reason, you go for no hunting lance.

Metal Ogryn, nine quid a pop, that's £27 for the smallest unit size, £45 for a decent sized unit and £90 for a full sized squad.

And I think they're some of the oldest models still running.

I think the price per point is a bad way to look at it.
Maybe if it was price per effectivity they would be the most expensive bar none.
if it was price per smallest unit then yeah, 5 models minimum at 'whateveryourdollar' is then yeah most expensive too.

I just dont get it, for what they do, for what theyre made of and for everything they should be no more than a blister of 2 marines with assault weapons.
theyre priced like a damn special character!
A whole army of emperors champions price as troops.... woot!

I think GW is just trying to see how much they can charge per crappy-looking model and still have people buy them, because i think that the wraithguard are one of the worst looking eldar models at this point. i mean, the models suck, the rules suck and the price sucks (points and money) i guess they are only selling because of the fluff :wtf:

Thats the reason why i never bothered buying or playing with them!!!

I love the fluff behind them and the model concept is cool(mini wraith lords). I really would like to see them remake/reprice them though, cause they're rediculous. You need 10 of them to really be functional, and that's a $100 unit.

Grots are about $1 per point so they are pretty expensive. I guess the chaos spawn is a little more than that in 40k(also you can make them using no points with gift of chaos) but in fantasy it's 50 points per $25 so it's got 2 uses.

usually 75 points in fantasy as most people upgrade them.

WArhounds are the epitome of HORRIBLE cost. $4 for bad models and 6 points

the griffon tank was one of the things i couldn't find at the us online store... here in europe its priced with 80 euros, and it's worth 75 points ( noone uses upgrades on it ). Might go along with the chaos spawn.

btw: screemers of tzeench have a better point-price-ratio, but the usual sized (9 model) unit is still at about $100

Pretty sure screamers don't cost that much. I got 10 for $64 new in the box and everything.

Necron Immortals aren't cheap.

28pts a model and $NZ20 each. That means a unit of five is $100 or 10 is $200. I'd say that they deserve to rank right up there with them.

yeah but wraithguard are 25$NZ per model and need to be in units of 5 minimum, which is 125$ per unit.
And then they suck rules wise compared to an immortal which can be teleported out of combat which a wriathguard cant and would really be useful considering their gun is the best thing about them which also sucks.

New rules for the Wguard though, much much better!!!
3 per unit, better stats, MUCH better stats.

But I dissagree with iron bhudda, I think they look quite cool.
I have no idea why I bought 15 of them with their current rules.... i'm mad.
